I am a vacation rental owner with several VRBO listings. I was a guest in this home for a planned seven day stay--we left after three miserable days. The house was dirty, the dishes in the dishwasher were dirty, the interior of the cabinets was dirty as were their contents. All dishes had to be washed by hand in a sink that would not hold water--and water had to be heated on the stove because there was not enough hot water to fill a kitchen sink! The loft bed was unmade, appeared to have been slept in and had a dirty rag lying on it. The linens were completely threadbare allowing one to see how stained the pillows/mattresses were and the women in our group refused to sleep on them. The air conditioners could not cool the house and the floor fan provided was filthy. The refrigerator did not cool adequately to keep food fresh. The only good thing I can say is that the beach was lovely and the location of the house should make this a prime rental. I should have been forewarned when I read you have to bring your own toilet paper. Buyer beware!!!! Owner refused to refund any money and threatened a lawsuit if our group offered a negative review. I have re-read the reviews of other tenants and can only say they must be related to the owner or written several years ago. The people of Cat Island are very friendly and welcoming. Visit the island but don't stay here.
My wife and I just spent 3 great weeks at the Banana Wind House. It was not our first trip to an out island but out first to Cat. The house is very private and right on the beach. We had our morning coffee on the deck just feet from the surf. A few times, a large herd of goats would wander by. The kitchen in the house is well appointed with everything we needed. Several nights we had a bonfire on the beach with driftwood that had been washed up. Reynolds, the caretaker, was easy to get a hold of if you ever needed anything. Several times we ordered dinner from his wife, Jan, which I would highly recommend. The people of Cat are very friendly and always willing to help. It was a great out island experience and we are planning our trip for next spring.

I have been back here three times in four years now! Does that tell you anything? Each time it gets better. This year, Banana Winds had been upgraded again, inside and outside, and it sparkled. It is literally on the beach and has all the comforts of home.
Well almost. This is the Bahamas after all and Cat Island is truly Bahamian, so don't expect to get a dozen TV channels or pizza delivered to your door. You will need to make reservations to eat out not because of the crowds but because your meal will be caught fresh (perhaps by you), and cooked, just for you. Cash is king on the island so don't expect to leave home with a credit card and still be served.
Banana Wind, the Dolphin house and the Spectacular Ocean front Villa are all part of the Bannister estate on 14 acres on the southern part of Cat island and a good get-away to relax, read or just chill out with friends. The ocean is pure blue and the beaches on the south part of the island are the best. Nothing is close to anything, and that is part of the charm. Be prepared to entertain yourselves and enjoy life as it should be. That said, the Greenwood resort (awesome beach) and are others are within a short driving distance.
TBI airport is about 35 minutes from Nassau and it will take another half hour or so to get to the estate. You will get picked up by Reynold Butler, alias host / caretaker / handyman / fisherman/ diver/ restauranteer. He may also be the best fish filleter you have met and I would strongly advise you try a fishing outing with him and his crew (hint- take a bottle -or two- of Captain Morgan Rum with you for best results). Janice, his wife cooked some of the best Bahamian meals I can remember (after one of those fishing trips). Just kidding, her cooking is AWESOME.
At the estate, there are kayaks, bicycles, a tennis court, a piano in the villa, and various toys to keep you entertained. But in truth, be prepared to go there not to be entertained, but rather just to enjoy life. And when you are there, remember to watch the stars in the sky! You may never have seen the Milky Way until you go to Cat Island.
We rented the Big Spectacular house and the Banana Wind for the entire month of May! The houses were both amazing and all of our guest were more then pleased. There is a beautiful private beach right at your back door with excellent snorkeling. The view is absolutely stunning especially watching the sunset. The big house is perfect for large groups and family because there is plenty of room so everyone has their privacy yet has very large comfortable common areas like the living room, kitchen and deck so to enjoy everyone's company. The Banana Wind is perfect for a couple or a small group of people. It is perfectly located right on the beach and is walking distance from the big house. The caretaker of the house, is phenomenal! He is always a phone call away. If you don't feel like cooking, there is an amazing chef that is available. All the houses are very clean and maintained very well. Cat island is a must see destination and any one of Bannister Peachtree homes are perfect and can accommodate big or small groups. I would highly recommend this property! This is our second year there and we are all looking forward to next year!
