My husband and I spent a week here for our honeymoon and the cottage was perfect for the 2 of us! Secluded, yet just a few minutes walk to shops, restaurants, and the beach. The pool is perfect for dip to cool off. It's was a great place to relax and read a few good books. Chantal is super nice and full of information about the island. The artwork in the house is beautiful and the glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling in the bedroom are a nice touch!
We just returned from three weeks in St Lucia, we spent the first and third weeks at Mango Cottage and loved every minute of our stay there. It is a real gem. The location is perfect, set amidst trees and flowers with Reduit Beach, restaurants and shopping all within walking distance. The jewel in the crown is the new manager, Vernessa. She helped us settle in perfectly and was easily accessible to answer any questions and provide us with ideas for sightseeing and dining. She provided us with a pay-as-you-go mobile telephone during our stay. The cottage is very comfortable, it's not super sleek it's homey. The photos are totally accurate. The kitchen is small but as there will only be two of you it's not a problem and I cooked quite a few dinners from scratch. It was a pleasure to make use of local produce and don't miss the boat at Reduit Beach selling fruit and vegetables. Breakfast, lunch or dinner on the covered veranda was always a joy. Chantel the housekeeper cleans the cottage to a very high standard. The bed is very comfortable and the sheets are very high count 100% cotton, the best. I'm very fussy when it comes to sheets and these are excellent. The plunge pool is wonderful particularly after a long day at the beach. The tiles surrounding are slippery when wet. There are many activities available. I suggest you visit Peppy at the concierge desk at nearby Coco Palm Hotel. We went on the Land and Sea Adventure and it was great. We did not rent a car and on most days walked to our destinations. We used taxis for visits to Pigeon Point. Consult the internet and try to visit when the cruise ships are not in port. Don't hesitate to use the bus to go to Castries during the day for the market, the fare is quite a bargain. I agree with an earlier review regarding the yappy dogs in nearby properties but the perimeter fencing at Mango Cottage is secure and the barking never lasts too long. At night we had the windows closed and the AC on. I think it was a real treat to stay at this very unique property. I am happy to recommend it to other travellers. My husband summed it up before we departed for home when he said, "I wish all holiday locations had a Mango Cottage."
My friend and I stayed at Mango Cottage from Jan 17-26. This little dollhouse is perfect place to get away, rest, and relax. Located just minutes away from the beach, downtown Rodney Bay with its shopping and restaurants, it provides an oasis of privacy.
The garden is beautiful (thanks Dennis!), the pool guy shows up regularly, and Chantal takes care of all the housekeeping needs efficiently, with a ever present smile.
The cottage has everything you could need but best of all is the verandah with the adirondack chairs and hammock where we spent time every morning, enjoying the sunshine, having breakfast, and planning our days.
The deck chairs by the plunge pool provided a great spot to read (or nap) in the afternoon after a morning on the beach.
Saint Lucia is a beautiful country, and Mango Cottage is a treasure in Rodney Bay.
My wife and I took a chance on Mango Cottage for our honeymoon as opposed to a resort. We were very pleased when we arrived. The cottage and grounds are well kept. A pool man, house keeper, and gardener come by daily, unless you request some privacy for certain days. It is a short walk to the grocery store, CoCo Palms (a small resort where you can catch Taxi's etc.), very good restaurants (try Delirious, good food and night life), and of course Reduit Beach. The Friday Jump Up is a short taxi ride. We saved a lot of money by staying here instead of a resort so we were able to spend money on some great adventures and luxuries (couples massage overlooking the ocean at Cap Maison is highly recommended, and they let you spend the day at there pool and beach).
The only draw back is no TV. We didn't think this would be a problem since we wouldn't be at the cottage much, but it is nice to have a TV to relax in the evenings before going out on the town. Another thing is recognize that there are no addresses in St. Lucia, so just tell your Taxi Driver you are going to "Mango Cottage" by CoCo Palms in Rodney Bay. If a taxi driver didn't know where Mango Cottage was, we would just go to CoCo Palms and walk 1 min. to the house. Other than those small qualms it was excellent. To say this place is a bargain would be an understatement.
Mango cottage was a wonderful oasis from the hustle and bustle of life. Katrina was excellent. She really helped us get ready for our trip and even arranged for us to have an infant cot since we were traveling with my 4-5month old son. The gardens are beautiful with wonderful fruit trees. These do obstruct the ocean view but it is well worth it. The pool gets sun in the morning but not in the afternoon and can be a little cold. However, it is a very refreshing after some tanning. The bed is very comfortable and the porch is by far the highlight due to the gorgeous garden. Chantal, the housekeeper, will clean up daily and makes and excellent creolle dinner for an extra fee. It was such a wonderful vacation and the entire staff really helped to make our first vacation with our son very memorable.
Mango Cottage is a quaint out of the way place within walking distance of the beach, eating establishments, grocery story, and shopping malls. If you are looking for luxury, this is not your place. If you seek comfort and quiet you have found the place. Our only disappointment was to be without air conditioning for three of our five night stay. Even here Katrina was most accomodating providing additional fans. A brand new AC should keep you cool during the hot, humid nights. The equipment, kitchen and bath, could use updating. However, that aside we had a most enjoyable stay. The property was well kept by Herbert. Service was most excellent, efficient and unobtrusive, Chantel, the house keeper, is an excellent cook who went the second mile in seeing to our comfort. We couldn't have been more pleased with Katrina's efficiency in making arrangements, she even proivded a cell phone for local calls on the run. The arranged transfers and transportation was right on as were our requested activities. Katrina offered excellent advice and insight enhancing our stay. She even provided personal transportation one day. You can stay on the go 24/7 or just relax by the private pool, underneath the mango tree, If you are looking for a different kind of get away, St. Lucia and Mango Cottage at Rodney Bay come highly recommended by a satisfied couple who celebrated forty years of marriage there.
Rodney Bay is the social heart of the north of the island. With great beaches and water sports, the international marina, shopping malls, dozens of restaurants and a vibrant night life, there truly is something for everyone. Its also close to areas of historical interest like Pigeon Island (home of the St Lucia Jazz Festival), and the idyllic fishing village of Gros Islet, home of the Friday night 'jump up'. Transportation is easy, with main bus routes at the end of the road and several taxi stands nearby.
