Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cabin in Greenville - NORTH ISLAND

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5-6), deck, picnic table

This property offers a unique opportunity to stay on your own private island for a relaxing getaway. Experience a peacefulness with friends or family in a cozy camp surrounded by beautiful Moosehead Lake. Catch fish off the front ledge, set a chair on the sandbar with your feet in the water, or doze in the double hammock.

North Island is very easy to get to, located approximately 1.5 mile up the East Cove from Greenville town center, 1.7 miles from the Greenville Jct. Wharf and approximately 200 ft from mainland. The boat dock can accommodate a 25 ft boat. If you will be using canoes or kayaks(can be rented in Greenville), we will happily transport your gear for you with our boat and provide a closer parking spot to go from. For your vehicle, parking is free at the Jct wharf and downtown Greenville, if you prefer private parking you can use our backyard, only a stone's throw from the Greenville docks. We are more than willing to make your stay easy and fun.

The island offers all of the comforts of home with propane stovetop, refrigerator, shower and lights. The Biolet composting toilet is clean and convienent. Drinking water will be provided for you. A fire pit on the south end of the island and gas grill can also be used for cooking. There are seats around the fire pit, a fun place to watch for falling stars.

.

The sun rises on the boathouse and boat dock (quiet place to drink your coffee) and sets on the deck across the island. Ducks and loons swim by. There's a bait trap to catch your own live bait, a net, just bring your own fishing pole. Two smaller islands are connected to the main island by a sandbar, great for wading for small children. There are several spots for tents if anyone feels like sleeping outside.

Dogs love the island and are very welcome. The extra $50 cleaning fee takes care of one or multiple dogs.

We provide the linens, kitchen and bath towels, and the kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, dishes, coffee pot (percolator), and cutlery. You will need to bring your own beach towels.

If it rains, the cozy camp has books for all ages, puzzles and board games. The village of Greenville has restaurants, shopping, small local museums. There are mountain climbs nearby, if you have a big enough boat you can even dock at Kineo Mtn and climb there. Squaw Village and Kineo Golf courses are accessible by boat.

You can easily boat downtown and dock at the public dock to get an ice cream cone, pizza, dinner out or shopping.

Our prices have stayed the same as 2010. Please don't hesitate to email or call with any questions.

North Island is owned by two families, Janet and Brian Chasse, Heidi and Jeff Richards. Both families live in Greenville and are very involved in the Greenville community. Heidi and Janet both work from home, Brian as a carpenter and Jeff as a Merchant Seaman (and coach when he's off duty). Both families, with their children ranging in ages from 11 to 32, have enjoyed the island immensely.

Janet Chasse purchased this cabin in 1992

Janet and Brian bought the island over 20 years ago when they were looking for a place nearby to camp with their 5 kids. What a perfect spot to spend summers! Jeff (Janet's brother) and Heidi bought in several years ago and both families are presently tied up a lot with their kid's activities and sports, so we decided to rent some. We give the camp a thorough cleaning and check over between each renter and are nearby if you need anything.

North Island is close enough to town to feel comfortable, but is so private and peaceful, a great place to relax and reconnect with family and friends. All you need to bring is food and clothes. We are readily available if you need us for anything, but you won't see us (or anyone else) on the island unless you want to. At this time the rental is available May-Sept.

GREAT VACATION!

  • 5 out of 5
My husband, son and his girlfriend, as well as our dogs, had an outstanding week on North Island. We brought both our boats, and explored the lake, kayaked, hiked on Mt Kineo, and visited Greenville and had dinner at the Black Frog. It is definitely a rustic setting, but the peace and tranquility was wonderful. The description is very accurate.

The dogs loved playing in the sandbar between North Island and the 2 other islands that are right next to it. The water was still cold at the beginning of the week, so it was great to be able to ease into the water slowly to acclimate, while the dogs played. By mid week, Mother Nature had done a nice job of warming up the water a bit, so it was nice to be able to dive in off the north dock on the other side of the island, to get cooled off.

The Biolet is very clean, and the outhouse is a very short walk from the cabin. The cabin was very clean and well stocked. The beds were comfortable. The island is actually a good size, with trails leading to the docks, hammock, boat house, firepit, and deck with the picnic table. The fire pit is in a gorgeous location, surrounded on 3 sides by water!

I can't say enough about Janet and Heidi. They were so helpful and accomodating, and checked in on us the morning we were due to check out, because of the remnants of a Hurricane that came thru on Friday night, and continued thru most of Saturday. We were able to make it back to the boat ramp by noon, and Janet was gracious and let us park our vehicles and trailers at her house, and shuffled me back between the boat ramp and her house to get our vehicles. We had lost both of our kayaks the night before due to high winds, and Janet put a post on her Facebook page about our missing kayaks, and 2 of her friends found our kayaks, each one on opposite sides of the lake. Heidi called us on our way home to let us know. They couldn't have been more gracious and helpful.

2 thumbs up! Thank you, Janet and Heidi!

AN AWESOME FAMILY GETAWAY!

  • 5 out of 5
North Island was everything we expected and more! My family and 2 dogs loved spending all day every day together with no electronic distractions. We enjoyed swimming around the 3 islands and the swim dock, canoeing, going on 'nature hikes' as my kids called them, and playing games and doing puzzles every evening.
Janet and Heidi kindly ferried us over on their boat and we rented a canoe from Northwoods (they were great to work with). The cabin is just as described. The propane lights and shower worked well, and we brought and prepared all our own meals using the fridge, freezer, 2 burners and outdoor grill. The large windows with screens let us stay cool during the day and night. The biolet was very clean, new and well-maintained. Greenville is also a quaint town - we canoed there for lunch and watched the 4th of July parade and there's a supermarket there should you need supplies. All in all a fantastic week and we hope to return next year!

A FANTASTIC MOOSEHEAD LAKE EXPERIENCE!

  • 5 out of 5
North Island is the perfect Moosehead Lake experience. A private island with an adorable cabin, not too remote, but just remote enough to feel like you are really taking a Maine vacation.

My mother, my brother and his three children (10 - 13 years old) visited with us for part of our stay. The cabin's two bedrooms were very comfortable, and we pitched a tent on the picnic platform for the kids. The kids loved exploring the island, helping with the campfires and swimming in the lake!

If you are looking for luxury accommodations, this is probably not the place for you. But if you love being outdoors, and don't mind being disconnected from your electronics, North Island is perfect! Very peaceful and totally comfortable. Yes, the lights are propane, and we did need to pump our own water to do the dishes. But there is a refrigerator to keep the beverages cold, and the outhouse was super clean and well maintained.

We loved watching the Katahdin go by every afternoon and seeing the loons fishing just off shore was a treat. Janet and her family were fantastic with helping us on and off the island with all our stuff, and the nice folks at Northwoods Outfitters helped ferry the family out in a pinch. Otherwise we managed quite nicely with just our kayaks.

We are already looking forward to the next time we can visit the island!

PERFECT SETTING, VERY PRIVATE

  • 5 out of 5
Ok so I didn't really want to write this review because now everyone will want to rent this most amazing spot and there wont be any more open weeks but I promised Janet I would. First off Janet and Brian and Heidi and her husband made us feel right at home and were more than helpful. I have to say I didn't know what to expect being on an island for a week. What would we do? Well needless to say, we ran out of time before we ran out of things to do. The water is crystal clear and tempurate. You can swim from anywhere on the island with out being in "MUCK". There is a dock to jump off of and a huge underwater boulder to swim out to. Bring a mask and snorkel its worth it. The bonfire pit was used every night with the moon on the water. From one side of the island you see the sunrise and the other the sunset. There is actually three islands, one main and two smaller all of which the kids and dogs had a blast exploring. The islands where easily reached wading in two feet of water. The kids also enjoyed catching crayfish especially at night, they are in abundance on the shore. We saw an eagle too. Town was enjoyable with some nice restaurants. We also went to Kineo Island to hike and climbed Mt Katahdin (about a 2 hr drive to Baxter State Park ). Initially the plan was to stay in Acadia for two weeks but last minute we decided to do a week at the ocean and a week at the lake. I'm thinking next year we will skip the ocean. We are all sad we had to leave the island and can't wait to return next year. Thank you for sharing your bit of paradise with us.

RELAXING GET AWAY

  • 5 out of 5
My husband and I needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and found reprieve on this island. We arrived at the landing where Brian met us and brought all of our things out to the island, we followed him in our kayaks enjoying the scenery on the way. After arriving on the island (which was an easy paddle from the landing that we parked at) we were greeted by a cozy cabin right out of an LL Bean catalog with amazing views of the lake on all sides. We spent our time lazing in the hammock or fishing off of the north side of the island or just napping listening to the waves on the rocks. We made a few trips in to town and had no problem getting to and from the boat landing with the kayaks. If you are looking for a place to relax, swim and enjoy some quiet time with beautiful scenery I would recommend coming here. Thank you so much for your hospitality Brian and Janet and for making our stay comfortable and relaxing. We will definitely be back!

DOG'S PARADISE

Dog's paradise
  • 5 out of 5
The cabin is wonderful. We enjoyed the privacy. Our dogs loved being free to explore and swim. The girls got a huge kick out of trying to capture crayfish at night. I loved the peace and quiet out by the campfire at night. We enjoyed the hiking, and exploring the lake in our boat. We had such a wonderful time we extended our stay by two weeks. We hope to get two weeks this year instead of one.
