Only an hour to Rincon and great surfing; 40 minutes to Aguadilla and great diving. Centric to all of Puerto Rico....rent a car and get to know La Isla del Encantada!
Perfect couple retreat...: Romantic bottom floor room with beautiful views. Enjoy a good book from master library in the hammock. Savor a glass of wine while watching the sunset in the rocker. Relax in the luxury linens each night. Take long walks on the beach and watch the waves roll in. Stay up at night and make a wish on a falling star (really, we see a lot of them!).
Fully stocked kitchen...: Everything you would need to be a gourmet cook, even cookbooks to try something new. Sam's Club is just down the street and Walmart is across the street for the groceries. And if you drink and eat too much, Walgreen's is open 24 hours and within walking distance. Don't want to cook, try the local restaurants....
We had a great time at Casa Glad this February. We rented the bottom floor, which was enough for 4 adults and 2 young children.
Strengths are in the authentic beach house feel and the cutest décor; large living area and kitchen, with huge dining table; lots of games, puzzles, and even small rocking chairs for kids, and Joy made sure we had a pack-n-play for our youngest one; AND a private beach! Aside from a few locals fishing we had about a mile of beach all to ourselves! The waves are big and it isn't manicured sandy beaches like the resorts, but who wants that? The rocks and tide pools are perfectly placed so that our little ones could splash around in the tide pools safely, and try to catch crabs, small fish, and critters. They absolutely loved it.
One draw-back is that despite the authentic beach house feel, the town is not a "beach" or "surf" town. Hatillo is very commercial. We were probably two blocks from a very commercial area, which was convenient, especially needing to run to get this and that, but not what you picture when you think of a "beach town." We couldn't find a place to eat ocean-side. We made a day trip to Isabella, Jobes Beach, which was great, and a day trip to the waterfalls in San Sebastian, which we recommend! We had been to Rincon before which is also a great town. Overall, this was a great value and great price with an authentic adorable home.
The property was beautiful and clean and very large. My sister and I have vacationed on the East Coast of the island before, but this was the first year heading west from San Juan. The property is so close to the beach you can see and hear the ocean from your bed. We love to come in the off season to avoid the cold at home in Indiana and DC and were amazed to have the beach entirely to ourselves. Other reviews are correct that this is not a beach to play in the waves as it is very rocky, but if you've rented a car then you can easily drive to some more swim friendly beaches as well as other sites and activities close by. The only downside to this location was you have far fewer dining options than some of the other more touristy areas. We are not fans of fast food and chains, but were able to find a few local spots to enjoy. Overall, the proximity to our own private beach, since the upstairs and neighbor house were not rented, was the icing on the cake.
We stayed at Casa Glad during a long weekend in March as we planned a family reunion with our relatives in the island. Our reunion at the home was a complete success and everyone had a grand time. The home is located in a very private and amazing location overlooking the Atlantic. The home was amazingly well-appointed with anything and everything you could possibly need including boogie boards, fishing poles, games, music, movies, wine glasses and frozen beer mugs, which my husband loved! The beach itself was great for walking, shelling, boogie boarding and fishing. It felt very secluded and safe as we we often the only ones walking on the beach. We had a heat time and hope to be back soon! Thank you Joy!
Casa Glad made us very happy! Casa Glad is the name of the house. It sits on a hill on the north central coast of Hatillo, Puerto Rico. This home -moreover, the home owner- truly were catalysts for an incredible family experience. The home is the grandest beach home in the area and creates a feel of seclusion, yet is 2 blocks to Walgreens, Walmart and 'Tower de Pizza'- which we LOVED for lunch, dinner, carryout or adult drinks and music. From a good layout and large rooms to kitchen gadgets and many family games -- an octopus and other interesting marine life in tidal pools on the beach and peering down on iguanas munching in the treetops - this home has many features to provide a happy family vacation. It also is stocked with more 'grown up' features for relaxation; two balconies, a rooftop porch for cocktails at sunset, a large open patio w/hammock that's perfect for a good book from the library stocked full for all interests and ages and varied music collection. Hatillo is the 'Dairy Capital' of PR, a small, safe city with local flare, good restaurants, easy interstate access to all of Puerto Rico. We drove to Rincon for surf lessons in 2.5 hours, Arecibo Space Observatory in 45 minutes, Cueva Ventana in 25 minutes, Arecibo Lighthouse- 15 minutes, Utuado- 1 hour.
Casa Glad is welcoming inside and out, with friendly neighbors at the end of a quiet street. (One of the neighbors taught the boys how to fish for octopus in the tidal pools - and how to cook it! ) The home is clean and in good shape, with a 'lived-in feel' that makes it comfortable to 'use' for families with children: high-quality linens, washer/dryer, a maintenance assistance for questions or repairs, internet, cable, vast movie collection, foos-ball, well-equipped kitchen. But, with hermit crabs on the patio for catching, we didn't spend much time inside. There is a shower outside for rinsing off beach treasures and sandy feet and a grill for cookouts. I loved sitting on a balcony or rooftop porch with my husband listening to the ocean and looking at stars.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: The coast is VERY rocky (sharp, lava kind) and the ocean VERY strong in this area. This is not a beach that is good for 'lying in the sun' or 'swimming at the beach'. This is a sportsman's or adventurous kid's beach to explore - WITH CLOSED-TOE, DURABLE SHOES. This home and location is perfect for a family to experience typical Puerto Rican life, a home-base that made my family happy we stayed at Casa Glad!!
Casa Glad, what a wonderful place. Traveling with kids and especially teenagers you are always weary about where to go and where to stay. Luckily we found Casa Glad or better yet Casa Glad found us. It was more than what we were looking for.
Our vacation was one that we will all remember and cherish and our stay at Casa Glad played a great role in it. The views were SPECTACULAR, the house was a home and it gave us all a wonderful opportunity to get together as a family and enjoy each other’s company. It was literally a home away from home. The house was immaculate and had anything and everything you could think of and was ready for us when we arrived. All we had to do was get some groceries. The décor of the house was welcoming and charming. The house is right off of the Atlantic Ocean where we would get our wakeup call from a friendly neighborhood rooster. We would then be off for a wonderful stroll along the coast with breath taking views to collect sand, sea shells and memories.
As private as the house was, you are still very close to so much. Plaza Norte & Plaza Atlántico (shopping malls), Sam’s, Chili’s, a movie theater and other stores and restaurants are nearby. The highway is also nearby, making it a convenient location and easy to plan your trips to visit other beautiful parts of the island. We hated to leave and can’t wait to return!
The owners take pride in their house and we were fortunate enough to share their home. They were a pleasure to work with.
Thank you Joy for sharing your home!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful vacation home with us. We were there the first week of May, for 5 days. The home is exactly as it appears online, we enjoyed having all the comforts of home, the house was fully stocked with anything you might need for cooking, beach fun, and located in a very quiet area. Me personallty, I did not want to go home, I had a blast, and hope to return soon. Thanks again Joy. We hope to see you again, real soon.

The uniqueness of this house is it is on the beach and right off the main highway between Arecibo and Hatillo and you can go any where in Puerto Rico; but when your at the house, it's like you are away from it all. You don't hear anything but the ocean. It's a very private beach, that only locals use. The beach house is located very central to see all of Puerto Rico and many tourist attractions: 20 minutes to the Arecibo caves and satellite; 20 minutes to great outlet shopping at Barceloneta; 1 hr to Rincon; 1/2 hr to Dorado and golf, 1 hr to San Juan, 1 hr to Ponce, 1 hr to many diving spots (Crashboat) and all with a scenic drive. The house next door, El Escape, which is perfect to rent both for large family gatherings.
