Born in Cape May county, New Jersey, the ocean has been in my blood all my life. I've been an avid fisherman, diver and surfer since I was a child. I first visited Saba in 2002 and fell in love with the island. I felt transported back to a simpler time when all there was to do was breathe and enjoy the amazing ocean.
Daniel Guida purchased this house in 2006
I visited Saba in 2002, fell in love with the island, the diving, hiking and, most of all, the world's friendliest and most loving people, so I kept returning. I eventually bought my little piece of paradise and set it up with relaxation, comfort, privacy, entertaining and efficiency in mind. I operate my business remotely from the villa when I am on island. Hummingbird Villa truly has every amenity and comfort and I share it with love.
I was invited to visit Hummingbird Villa to watch the sun rise and I was instantly hooked. The property was not stacked on the hillside like other houses I had looked at, but was set off all by itself on the mountain with majestic views of the ocean, 6 other islands and the mountains.
The 14-inch wide planked floors were the most beautiful I had seen anywhere. The post-and-beam construction, 20-foot ceilings, and the use of French doors instead of windows lent an expansiveness to the villa that magnified the majesty of the natural ocean setting.
We love to cook and entertain, and the villa has a full gourmet kitchen with every appliance, as well as two indoor and two outdoor dining areas.
The walled patio with lush tropical gardens provides a tranquil respite on days when the winds gust up.
High speed wifi; air conditioning and ceiling fans throughout; huge deck and pool deck for sunning; observation deck with the best views on Saba; Jacuzzi tub in master suite with pool, mountain and ocean views; large, shaded back yard with ocean views made Hummingbird Villa my ideal choice as a place where I could get my business out of the way quickly and relax.

If you are traveling to the Island of Saba in the Dutch Caribbean, we highly recommend that you stay at Hummingbird Villa. Our group of 8 adventure seekers stayed for one week and our experience could not have been better! We arrived after dark from the Dawn II ferry ride to the warm welcome and embrace of Lika, the lovely and hospitable property manager. The villa was beautifully lit and stocked with supplies to get us through the evening and following Sunday when the food stores were closed. Everything was impeccable and clean as we were given a tour of the entire property and its amenities. Soon we were nestled in with rum drinks in hand enjoying the cool Caribbean breeze on the huge patio!
We awoke to the most incredible views, sounds, and floral smells the following morning as we prepared for our first dives of the week! Sea Saba, a fantastic scuba dive outfit, arranged our pick-up at 8:45 so we had a leisurely morning with time to familiarize ourselves with all the luxuries of Hummingbird Villa. The kitchen was well stocked and we never lacked for anything during our stay. We were celebrating a milestone birthday so we hosted a small party with food catered by The Sea Witch Restaurant (highly recommend). The rest of our group who stayed nearby and the dive staff joined in the fun and the villa with its sprawling great room and patio handled the group beautifully!
Aside from being a perfect villa, the location of Hummingbird can't be beat! There is a slight uphill walk to get into town but the good news is that after you have a nice meal and drinks or shop around, it is a short downhill walk home! Some other villas located up on Booby Hill had tremendously steep hikes home from town. At Hummingbird, we were amazed that in late August we were able to sleep with the windows open because the elevation and constant sea breeze were nice and cool. The sounds of the tree frogs, palms and surf far below lulled us to sleep!
All in all, the island is a magical "other-world" that offers some of the best diving we have ever experienced! You feel like you are in a European village on a south pacific island. Saba is wonderfully diverse and gay friendly! If you spend the money on Hummingbird Villa you won't be disappointed. We certainly give it a solid 5 stars ++. Thanks Daniel and Lika!
My partner and I, along with three friends headed to Saba without really knowing what to expect. We spent the week prior to our arrival island hopping around the caribbean, saving Saba for our final destination. We should have headed straight to hummingbird villa for our entire two week trip!
We arrived late on a Thursday evening as the earlier ferry’s had been cancelled. When we got to the house at 7:00 PM, we were in awe, even in the dark. The villa is beautiful. Leika was waiting for us at the door. Since we were coming in so late, she thought to get us some beer, wine, fruit, eggs, coffee, cheese.... all the things we would have wanted for our first night and breakfast the next morning. She also helped us get into a place for dinner that night. She does a amazing job making sure the guests have everything they need and want.
The next morning we got to see the house and grounds in the daylight. As said below, the pictures do not do it justice. It is stunning. One of the nicest places I have ever stayed on a vacation.
Having a pool is rare on Saba, and this house has a great one. The house is full of doors and windows to take advantage of that spectacular view. Open them up and let the air flow through, you will be instantly relaxed. The massive book collection was a wonderful surprise. Our guests read several.
The walk into Windwardside is easy enough. Just long enough to get you ready for a wonderful meal or cold beverage. The town is quaint and beautiful. Be sure to hike up Mt. Scenery!
My partner was in touch with Dan frequently during our stay with simple questions or seeking advice. Not only did Dan respond quickly, but with very entertaining responses and suggestions.
The bottom line: If you want to be surrounded beauty inside and out, experience a vacation like nothing you’ve ever had before and be more relaxed than you ever thought possible... visit Saba and stay at the nicest house on the island. Hummingbird Villa.
The old saying, "Pictures don't do it justice, " applies to Hummingbird Villa. The entire 2-acre property is manicured to perfection, walled and gated for privacy, has dizzying, magnificent views of the ocean and 6 islands, and is elegant without being ostentatious. The rates are about 25% of what I'd expect to pay for a villa of its size, in its location and with its appointments.
When my bride and I arrived, we were greeted by the lovely Lika, who gave us the tour, presented us with a beautiful basket of food and beverages that got us through our first night, and let us know she would be on premises if we needed anything. We wanted complete privacy on our honeymoom, so we weren't sure how an on-site manager/concierge would work out, but Lika lives at the far side of the property and we never saw or heard from her until we called her, and then she was Johnny-on-the-spot. Lika offered unobtrusive, excellent service that one would expect at a 5-diamond hotel, not a stand alone villa. Her knowledge of the island and recommendations were spot on.
The villa itself offers every possible amenity and every comfort of home including excellent mattresses, a kitchen with all gadgets and appliances, giant HDTV, stereo in every room, and a pristine pool and gorgeous yard with lots of places to frolic about.
We loved the fact that we could just walk outside on the property and pick papayas, mangos, bananas, guavas, limes and soursop. We created our own juice diet, went out for one meal a day, and we went home pounds lighter and feeling amazing.
The best and most touching feature of our stay was a blanket of seasonal flowers on our bed as a wedding gift from Dan, the owner.
We didn't venture out a lot, but when we did, we found the Saban people to be among the kindest and most friendly anywhere. We felt safe and at home everywhere on the island, day or night.
We cannot recommend this villa or Saba highly enough and we will fondly remember our honeymoon at Hummingbird Villa for the rest of our lives.
My partner, myself and another couple stayed at the Hummingbird for a week Feb 22, 2013. I have been in the travel industry for almost 30yrs now and can honestly say the Hummingbird Villa has been one of the most amazing and wonderful accommodations I have ever stayed in. For me, what truly makes a place, a trip, an experience unique and priceless is undefinable. I could say it was the fantastic views, the comfortable rooms, cooling pool, fully equipped kitchen, the books and movies available to it's guests. It could be the great location to everything such as hiking trails, restaurants, grocery stores etc. It could have been the excellent attention to detail and prompt service we received from the very moment we emailed the owner to inquire about the property to the house manager and gardener that made sure we had everything and were taken care of immediately. But I think that these are only parts of the sum of a whole experience that will leave you wanting more...and constantly thinking about when you can go back. You know when you are somewhere and you get that feeling of just letting go and exhaling? Come to the Hummingbird Villa and experience Saba....there is truly no place like it anywhere else. Each of us came home with memories to last a lifetime. Thank you Dan, for creating and imbuing the Hummingbird with love and wonderful energy, may we repay you in kind one day.
If you're looking for luxury in a remote and exotic setting, Hummingbird Villa's the place for you. Dan has thought of everything. We travel a lot, and rarely have our expectations been exceeded like they were at Hummingbird. Saba is a place of unsurpassed natural beauty, simple yet elegant. The fragrant breezes, the sounds of the birds, tree frogs and goats, and the endless sky and ocean make for a restorative place to rebalance. Walking is not for the faint of heart! There are steep hills and the roads are narrow. But there is little traffic, and people are courteous. Although there isn't much night life, there are several excellent restaurants. And, of course, the caretaker, Paul, is an extraordinary chef and chocolatier.....if you want to be pampered at home. Treat yourself to the most wonderful house and view on the island!
My husband and I just got back from our Honeymoon stay at Hummingbird Villa!! We cannot say enough wonderful things about this property! It was by far the most relaxing vacation we've ever taken! The house is absolutely beautiful and the views from the decks are unbelievable!!
Dan, the owner, answered all of our many questions and suggested some wonderful "must do's" during our visit!
We are already planning a return trip to visit the beautiful Hummingbird Villa and wonderful Saba!!
Hummingbird Villa has a large, shaded yard with fruit and palm trees and a stunning 6-island ocean view. You will have access to two secluded, walled acres. The villa is located in Windwardside village, which has grocery stores, restaurants, shops, dive shops. We are also a quick walk to the Mt. Scenery and Spring Bay trail heads.
