About this property

Vermont Serenity with a Mountain View

This beautiful, cedar log cabin home was built in 2000. It sits at the end of a dirt road on four acres of privacy, and overlooks the tranquil Mad River Valley and the stunning Green Mountains of Vermont. Whether from the huge deck or the living room with the wide-plank pine floors and cathedral ceiling, you'll never get tired of the view.

On the first floor, the master bedroom and bath (with claw-foot tub) open up to the deck via French-glass doors, as do the living room and dining room. There is also a half-bath downstairs. Two other spacious bedrooms are upstairs, and share a full bath. The home is completely furnished (one of them with its own private balcony), with comfort in mind and you don't need to bring a thing except a will to relax and have fun.

The owners live in Covington, Georgia. They named their cabin Campobello, after the small farming community in South Carolina, where Rob's grandparents had a peach orchard. Also, many Vermonters call their second homes "camps," so it worked two ways. In any event, Rob and Rebecca want visitors to enjoy their Vermont vacation home as much as they do. And they want you to enjoy this special part of New England, from the villages five minutes away, to the evening walks past horse pastures and mountain vistas. And don't forget--the best pizza in America is just down the road.

Throughout the summer, the nights are almost always cool and the days warm. On those days when it gets hot, we have floor fans (there is no central AC) to circulate the air until dusk. If coming in winter, it's of course great skiing and x-country territory, not to mention riding Icelandic horses, snowshoeing, and more. In the winter and spring, we do strongly encourage you to have either four-wheel-drive or all-wheel drive vehicles. It is Vermont, after all.

Another Great Stay
We have stayed here before and really love this home. It is very nicely decorated in a beautiful quiet location but not too far away from Warren and Waitsfield. We look forward to visiting again soon. Rob is a tremendous host.

Just a perfect place to stay
This home has everything you would need in a vacation home. Cozy rooms, spectacular views, privacy, and more! The kitchen is well equipped, the bedrooms are cozy and the deck is a great place to spend some time or cook food on the grill. In addition, it is close to the Mad River Valley, the ski resorts, Sugarbush, Mt. Ellen, and Mad River. Jump on this property before someone else finds it!

Lovely autumn getaway
We had a wonderful stay at Campobello! The property is lovely (incredible view) and the house has a ton of character; it is also well stocked and in great proximity to nearby towns for day trips. We loved exploring the area. Rob was very communicative and helpful.

About the host

Host profile image
Neither one of us is from New England. Rebecca is an Atlanta native and international flight attendant, and Rob is a small-town North Carolina native and owns a book publishing company near Atlanta. They have a daughter who graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute near Boston and is a robotics engineer in the Silicon Valley, CA. Still living at home are two cats and a dog, and a horse just down the road. Rob & Rebecca, Covington, GA

Why they chose this property

We built this home in 2000 after owning a much-smaller log cabin in the Rocky Mountains, but over the years, getting there became a major proposition. We love Vermont because of its beauty in all seasons and its myriad villages, each one more bucolic than the one before it. We can get here in five hours from Georgia and know that we're a world away. The Mad River Valley was actually recommended to us by a friend in Colorado (a well-known ski writer), as well as a French native who owns a French restaurant in the Mad River Valley. Rebecca (who is fluent in French) met him while working a flight from Paris. We came here and didn't look anywhere else.

What makes this property unique

Rebecca loves working in the yard and riding her neighbors' horses. Rob, a former newspaper reporter, simply enjoys tooling down to the Warren Store in the morning to get pastries and the New York Times and sit outside by the river that runs right by the store. We both enjoy the Saturday farmer's market in Waitsfield, pizza with friends at American Flatbread, and a beer with chips and salsa on the deck at sunset. With the wireless DSL, Rob can keep up with work while relaxing on any of three decks, or sometimes takes the laptop into one of the many coffee shops in the nearby villages.
