RESTORED FRENCH RURAL COUNTRY COTTAGE WITH HEATED POOL AND PEACEFUL GROUNDS

Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday cottage in Molieres - Le Petit Soyc

Detached 5 bedroom cottage with 4 bathrooms (sleeps 10) - private heated pool

Le Petit Soyc is an idyllic private escape from every day life, ideal for families or parties of up to ten. As the cottage is surrounded by fields and woodland, the large (10m x 5m) fenced, and optionally heated, pool and multiple terraces are very private and capture the sun day long. Inside, the 18th century stone cottage has been sympathetically converted to create five bedrooms (3 double ensuite and 2 twins sharing a bathroom). The open-plan living area has comfortable leather sofas in two seating areas around the original fireplace, and a well equipped 49 sq m kitchen opening on to a large kitchen terrace overlooking the pool. Outside there is plenty of space for children to run around and the pool is fenced for child safety. Some games are provided, as well as Satellite TV/DVD for UK TV and Radio channels. A car is required due to the rural location.

Additional Information: Located amongst peaceful rolling hills, yet only 60 miles from Toulouse airport, or one days drive from the channel ports of Caen or St Malo. The historic cities of Cahors and Montauban are both within half an hours drive, with many smaller historic towns and bastides closer. For the mildly energetic, apart from the large (10m x 5m) secluded, illuminated and optionally heated swimming pool, Croquet, Table Tennis, and Boules sets are provided. Golf and Tennis are available nearby. For the less energetic, sunloungers, a hammock, backgammon, playing cards and the barbecue will suffice, with shaded areas available outside as well as lots of sun terrace. UK Satellite TV/Radio provides a link to what is going on in the outside world.

Originally a very basic farm cottage, when purchased by my parents there was no running water, sewerage, electricity or heating other than a large fireplace and a well! The previous owners had moved out in in the 1970's. After extensive refurbishment in 1990, the cottage was re-born with 3 ensuite bedrooms and all modern conveniences, including a swimming pool. 20 years later in 2010, a further major rebuilding project updated the infrastructure and roof, and added two further bedrooms, a family bathroom and a huge 49 sq m kitchen/dining space with an outdoor terrace 'room'.

The idea behind Petit Soyc was to create a well equipped and easily accessible retreat where we could escape to, quickly relax, and slow down from the frenetic pace of our normal lives. Whilst mobile phones and satellite TV can keep you in touch with reality - we urge you to switch them off and savour the slow pace of life of this region. As Jamie Oliver commented in his TV programme on the area ('Jamie does the Pyrenees') - the locals are not rich, but they live like kings! If you like great local french food and wine - this is the area for you.

SUPERB FARMHOUSE IN IDYLLIC RURAL LOCATION

  • 5 out of 5
We have just spent a week at this superbly presented and well equipped rural retreat. Our party consisted of 2 families with four children aged between 19 months and 4 years. The large house, grounds and safely fenced swimming pool offered plenty of space and entertainment so that we never felt we were tripping over each other - or felt the need to leave the property! The farmhouse now offers intelligent open plan living accommodation which allows adults to be in the kitchen keeping a watchful eye on children in the TV lounge, or indeed playing outside on the terrace or garden. The rural location and quiet roads meant that the garden was very safe, and the children loved exploring, picking plums and playing treasure hunts in the grounds... until we headed for the pool again!! The large kitchen table would have allowed us all to eat inside if we wanted to, however we tended to use the lovely round table on the kitchen terrace which seated up to 10. This was a great place for the adults to relax in the evening over a glass of local wine, BBQ alight, and watch the sun go down after children were in bed! Internally the house was modern, very well laid out and equipped so that it felt a very 'easy' place to be with everything you needed. This was an area of France that we did not know at all and we really enjoyed a couple of drives through the surrounding countryside to find tiny picturesque villages and hamlets, and the odd vineyard and chateau hidden here and there. It would be great biking country, and so would also be a great destination for families with older children too. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday in good quality accommodation, then le petit soyc fits the bill.

FANTASTIC FAMILY RETREAT - CLASS, SPACE, NICE POOL

  • 5 out of 5
This is a tasteful, classy and well equipped house with plenty of space, comfortable bedrooms, nice bathrooms and a brilliant open plan kitchen. The table in the kitchen is big enough for getting everyone together even if the houe is full. The terrace looks over the pool and picturesque valley and there is plenty of space around the house for children to play. Barbecue on the terrace with a glass of wine or two is a real pleasure.

If you like to walk, cycle or run the roads are quiet and it is a short bike ride to the local village. This is a location for recharging your batteries with peace and quiet with the people you really want to spend time with. You will want to have a car and with it there are pretty hilltop towns and other attractions within easy reach.

I highly recommend this property.

A LOVELY HOUSE IN A LOVELY PART OF THE WORLD

  • 5 out of 5
Petit Soyc has undergone quite an expansion recently but has retained all its rural charm. It is spacious and airy inside with a huge new kitchen diner that leads out to a lovely new terrace area, perfect for dining out on. The house is situated in stunning, peaceful countryside. It really is a great place to have a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of home.

RURAL FRENCH PARADISE

  • 5 out of 5
We actually stayed at this property more than 10 years ago when it was lovely but much smaller than it is today. This time we went back with another family and were delighted to see the results of the recent renovation and expansion that has taken place. Spacious and completely modernised the property still retains a rustic country charm with more personal touches than you get in many rental properties. It is set well back from a very quiet country lane in its own land and when we arrived the surrounding fields were full of sunflowers. It honestly felt like paradise! The kitchen is well equipped with an enormous dining table although we usually chose to eat outside at another large table on the terrace, from where you can watch the sun set. Inside there are are also two cosy seating areas, each with comfortable leather sofas and an open fire if you were to visit at a cooler time of year. We were there with two teenagers and two younger children and they all found there was plenty to do. The pool is large enough to have a proper swim and there is also a table tennis table and croquet set. The surrounding country lanes are perfect for walks, and cycle rides and we found a circular 4 miles route with great views and virtually no traffic (but quite a few hills!) which we ran every morning. Nearby Castlenau has some good brasseries for an evening meal and Cahors and neighbouring sites are not too far away. But the greatest charm of this property is the peace, quiet and comfort that you return to at the end of the day. It really is a rural french paradise.

A HOLIDAY PROPERTY WITHOUT COMPROMISE

  • 5 out of 5
We have had many lovely holidays at Le Petit Soyc over the past 15 years, but this year we benefited from the significant expansion the owners have just undertaken to the property.
The house has been tastefully extended to now have five bedrooms, allowing up to ten to stay, and a wonderful new kitchen which brings everyone together if you have a large party. The extension also includes a garden room off the new kitchen, which is where we ate most of our meals. The new kitchen is fitted out to the highest standard and unlike many other holiday properties, everything is there, it is a kitchen anyone would be delighted to have in their main home. Plus there are four showers, with each of the three largest bedrooms featuring ensuite facilities. Probably the best praise for the property is that you could easily live there all year round, it hasn't been simply set up for people to make-do and out up with compromises knowing that they will only be there for a week or two. The property is complete with everything you need no matter how long you decide to stay.
When the house was first developed from the original farm building by the present owner's parents, a great deal of effort was put into making sure it felt authentic, with open beams and a large fire place, which is only needed in the winter. I am pleased to say that the expansion has managed to retain this original charm.
The cottage is set in beautiful rolling countryside, not far from many small towns and villages and is only about 30 minutes from the historic medieval city of Cahors.
This year the cottage was surrounded by sunflower fields, which combined with the well kept gardens provide a perfect setting when reading by the pool or splashing around with the kids.
With satellite TV and DVD player, the kids can easily be amused in the evenings without venturing out, but anyone staying here should take the opportunity to eat duck and foie gras in the restaurants in the nearby towns. Also look out for local fetes and artistic celebrations, which give visitors a real feel for French country life.
I have been recommending Le Petit Soyc to friends and family for years and now that it has become 'Le Grand Soyc' it is better than ever! I am sure we will be back again many times.
Thank you for a great holiday.

Owner's Response: We are proud of the outcome of the recent building project and as someone who has holidayed in the original cottage, it is pleasing that you think the original character has not been spoilt. We hope to welcome you back in the future.

AUGUST HOLIDAY 2009

  • 5 out of 5
We had a wonderful time at Le Petit Soyc - The accommodation was clean, spacious and cool and the variety of outside areas were all used to either catch or avoid the sun where necessary. The fenced pool and terrace were perfect in the heat wave we were lucky enough to have in August. There is a good selection of outdoor and indoor games and local information available - we used the badminton racquets and net for daily tournaments. We did not travel much as we enjoyed staying at the house relaxing, reading and playing hide and seek and also found that bike rides around the local area were very good as the roads are so quiet. It was great to have fresh plums and grapes on tap from the garden and to eat the local melons and we found that the local supermarket at Vaserac supplied all our needs. As a quiet get away from it all - two adults two children - family holiday we had no complaints and would definately consider coming back again

Away from it all in the hills of the French Midi-Pyrenees between Montauban and Cahors. Very private pool and multiple terraces with the nearest neighbours 500m away. The pool is fenced to comply with the French child safety regulations applying to all rental properties. The cottage is surrounded by fields on all sides. Toulouse airport is approximatley 1 hours drive, and a car is essential. Local shops are a short drive away in Vazerac (5 minutes) and Castelnau-Montratier (10 minutes). Cahors and Montauban hypermarkets, (and traditional markets twice weekly) are 30 minutes drive. Although driveable in 8 hours from Caen, we recommend breaking the journey overnight from the Channel ports.

Other Activities: Croquet, Table Tennis, Boules (all at the cottage)

Golf: Golf des Roucous is 5 miles away and open to 'pay and play'.

Ski: The ski resorts of the French and Andorran Pyrénées are approximately 150 miles away.
