Beautiful apartment! Exceeded our expectations. Excellent location, all the facilities one could ask for, very, very helpful host. Of all the many VRBO places we have stayed in (Venice, San Francisco, Hawaii, Whistler) this one was the best. Thank you, Marc!
My wife and I spent nine nights at the flat earlier this month. In a word, AMAZING! The flat is beautifully decorated, ''eat off'' the floor clean, quiet and , as other reviewers have noted, perfectly located. Comfortable furniture and first rate television on the spacious main floor. Two or three minute walk from the main square but far enough to be away from the hurly burly, particularly on weekends. There were plenty of towels and linens. In addition to the initial information sent with the confirmation package there were many guide books and pamphlets in the apartment.
Marc was a wonderful host from start to finish. We had arrived early from Toronto and he went out of his way to accommodate us (including taking me to the parking garage to help me navigate those procedures). There was chocolate, a fruit basket and a large bottle of wonderful Belgian beer waiting for us. Pointed us in the right direction with regard to restaurants (those to avoid as well as recommendations).
The flat is two flights up. However Marc takes the luggage up and down. I am in my mid sixties and far from fit and I had no problem with the stairs.
There are two restaurants about 40 meters away towards the square well worth a visit. Kok au Vin about a six minute walk in the opposite direction was amazing- truly a destination restaurant in my view.
While it really seems touristy I suggest taking the minibus tour from the main square early on to give you the lay of the land to inform your walking exploration of this unbelievably beautiful city.
If you can find it De Garre , in a tiny alley near the square, is a good place to investigate Belgian beer. Try their house trippel.
We used the flat as a base for visits to a number of Great War sites. Ypres (Ieper) Passchendaele, Crest Farm, the Brooding Soldier etc are an easy 35 or 45 minute drive. Vimy Ridge, Beaumont Hamel and the Somme about and hour or so away
Before we went to Bruges our expectation was that the trip was something to be checked off our "to see" list. The bottom line is we only scratched the service and will be returning . The only place we would even consider staying is Marc's flat
I couldn't imagine a better place to stay a few days in Bruges. A wonderful appartment, a calm place - though nearly in the heart of the city - and all kind of services included (even parking in a nearby garage and free landline to european countries and the States). You just stay there, don't worry about anything and: enjoy :-)
Marc sent us lots of tourist info as soon as we put deposit down. I loved that. Also, as his info page states you can pay the balance in US $ which worked well for me. The exchange rate had changed and when we got back one day after sightseeing, there was the bank receipt with the exchange rate and 26 EU back. That was a surprise bonus. Also, he told us we could use the house phone to call the USA which was so nice to be able to check in with the family back home. Very large unit with special touches. Thanks Marc
From the moment we booked we felt looked after. Marc was fast to respond to queries and sent lots of info in the post.
We are a family of five, with twin girls age 7 and a 9 yr old daughter. The girls loved the spacious apartment as did we.
Marc greeted us in person and insisted and helping with our millions of bags. He then took my husband to park the car in the very secure lock up near by. There is no great distance to the car from apartment...about a minute walk and you can unload in front of the apartment. To walk from apartment to belfry took 3 mins...wow. The location is amazing. The apartment is clean, large , well equipped and charming. The hosts are even more charming...Marc even took us to his farm to ride his Donkeys.
This has been a magical holiday that felt like a home from home...indeed we are returning.
thank you for a superb holiday and the chocolates and fruit basket too..
Sonya, Pete and the girls.
My mother, husband and I spent Christmas week in Brugge. The apartment was beautiful, in a great location and far exceeded our expectations. Marc was fabulous - generous and kind. Lots of good information, plus picked us up at the train station and took us back. Truly a magnificent experience. Thank you for the great memories!
