Overlooking Bellingham Bay with an ever changing view to the west. This classic flat has been completely updated yet retains its 100 year old charm. Ten foot ceilings and craftsmen woodwork throughout making this a memorable getaway. Two large casement windows open wide to bring the amazing view right into the living room. Comfortably sleeping 5 with three bedrooms and two baths one featuring a giant tub with a view of the bay. The kitchen features hardwood floors, granite counters and service for up to 9. A large deck with gas BBQ adjacent to the kitchen dining area is great for outside entertaining with a private garden featuring a Koi pond. Located in a quiet semi-residential neighborhood with the Cliffhouse restaurant across the street for a meal out or just cocktails on their deck.
This rather large King crab came to dinner with a couple of his friends when we where visiting our son and his family in Korea. Most of the time we are in Bellingham maintaining the property you see in the pictures. My wife and I live in the downstairs flat.

We have owned this classic home for 17 years and have made the upper flat available as a VRBO property. It took a while to put everything in order but the work has been worth it. The photos tell it all. The flats are completely separate from each other.
My wife and I collectively tripped over our jaws when we got into the flat. Well appointed with great touches, from the kitchen (as a long term VRBO renter, my first test is to see how sharp the knives are, and these passed), to the bedrooms and bathrooms. And then there is the view. We were graced with fantastic weather (i.e., clear skies), and could see forever, it seemed. Chris is great to deal with, and, when we met him, a fine neighbor.
We had a lovely stay at the Bellingham flat! The view was beautiful, location was great for us to ride cruiser bikes to downtown Bellingham, and the flat was spacious, clean, and very nice. The owners were also very nice and pleasant to communicate with.
Our only complaint (the reason for 4/5 stars) was the the lack of a spice cabinet (i.e. olive oil, herbs, spices). We found it odd that the kitchen was so well stocked with cooking utensils, pots, pans, great gas bbq, and yet there was nothing but salt and pepper to actually cook with. We ended up having to run to the grocery store for olive oil in the middle of cooking breakfast so we could scramble eggs. Every other vacation rental that we have stayed at has always provided those simple ingredients to allow the renters to utilize the kitchen and cook in...one of the reasons to stay at a home vs a hotel.
Overall, we had a great time and would definitely love to stay here again!
We had a lovely girls' weekend and loved our stay at The Flat. Gorgeous space with the historic feel of Fairhaven and walking distance to Boulevard Park, downtown Bellingham, and downtown Fairhave. We'll definitely be back! Thank you!
The 'Flat on the Bay' was beyond amazing! There's no need searching any further for a rental if you're visiting Bellingham...this Flat is extraordinary. My wife, daughter, family friend, and I stayed here for five days and were 'blown over'. It was way more than I expected. The kitchen has it all. The rooms are quiet, cozy, and comfortable. Location is superb for walking campus, town square, and Boulevard Park. Each room has it's own unique style and personality....I'm telling you all, this is a MUST STAY! And we loved the steps. I relish the thought we're blessed for a reason visiting Bellingham again 'cuz the Flat has a special place in my heart. Nice going Chris and Sheryl.

Our family (parents with two adult children) stayed in this flat for five nights and hated to leave. The kitchen is huge and modern, the living room view spectacular, and the master suite charming. The deck and garden were fabulous too. We had no difficulty with the many steps, but some others might. There is noise from nearby train tracks, but one hears that throughout Bellingham. It was a super base for our family reunioning nearby and some sightseeing as well. Minor quibble is that there is no shower in the master bath (only a hand-held sprayer mounted on the tub frame), could use more seating in living room, and the expectation that only four people will be populating a large flat with 3 bedrooms seems unrealistic. (We paid extra for our fifth person who was there only 3 nights; 5 persons is the max allowed.) Owner (who lives downstairs) seems very sensitive to the number of people in the flat, even limiting the number of visitors. Not a problem for us this trip, but had we wished to host a lunch or a tea for our local relatives, the rules of this flat would not have allowed it. Only 9 persons may be on the property at a time. Nonetheless, the flat met our needs and exceeded our expectations and with the caveats mentioned above, we recommend it highly and would welcome the opportunity to stay there again on a future trip. Also, communication with Chris was very good and payment by credit card extremely convenient.
We just returned from an absolutely perfect long weekend, celebrating our friend's 50th birthday. The accommodations were wonderful for two couples - the kitchen was ideal for cooking a meal for eight and the view from the living room is spectacular. The hosts are close by if you need them, but you don't even notice you are sharing the property with anyone else. We can't wait to go back in the Summer to take advantage of the beautiful backyard and deck.
Western Washington University is 2 blocks away with downtown Bellingham and historic Fairhaven equal distance and both easily reached by the interurban trail 2 blocks below by the bay. Lots of parking on the street. The convenience of location makes it easy to get to where you want to go. Take a water taxi to the San Juan Islands from Fairhaven. One hour to Vancouver B.C. or an hour and a half to Mt. Baker or Seattle. You will quickly see Bellingham has unlimited activities to offer with a central hub location.
