Having visited the Hawaiian islands various times over the years with my young children, we finally discovered the Big Island - totally fell in love with the island.... Hawi specifically, then realized that the 'dry side' had a lot to offer...
Jennifer Greggor purchased this estate in 2008
I purchased this property because of it's central location to all of what I think is the best that the Big Island has to offer. Mainly in all honesty because I realized for the first time in my life, I was able to make a major financial decision by myself - so I purchased an estate! Meanwhie, You can easily reach the volcano and Hilo side, the observatories at the summit, Kona, Waipio Valley, Puako, Hawi, the resorts, and beaches without having to overnight somewhere else. You can watch the ship traffic enter the harbor at Kawaihae or spend the day watching the whales from the house, (try and visit between December and March for the humpback whales.)
This home lends itself well to multi-generational family reunions, weddings, and events while maintaining the intimate feel for smaller family vacations. Since it sits on a large parcel of land, guests will enjoy the privacy and tranquility provided in a rural uncrowded setting surrounded by coconut palms and professional landscaping.
We were fortunate to have escaped the Northeast blizzards this past week, trading them for a beautiful vacation home on this magnificent island. The accommodations were beyond expectation-we have no suggestions for enhancement, a rare finding when one walks into a new abode. The area provided the right mix of activities, beach 69, Volcanoes National Park, the Cherry Blossom Festival and Hawi complemented by an island pace that
crept into psyche rather quickly.
We know others will find this spot enjoyable (what is not to like?). Hope to return someday soon.

The house was easy to find with the direction provided. The path from the circular drive leads to a Koi pond by the front door. Keys were in a lock box and easily accessed. The home is high on the mountainside overlooking the beautiful pacific. We spent most of our time on the lanai and enjoyed watching the birds and whales breaching below. The weather was sunny, in the 80s every day with a beautiful breeze. A few mosquitoes at dusk, but nothing major. We watched the sunset over the ocean from the hot tub. The house itself is spacious and spotless. The pictures don't do it justice. There are two master suites with king beds, one upstairs and one downstairs. Both have huge bathrooms. There are two queen bedrooms with a shared bath, and a queen sofa bed in the den. We ate most of our meals on the lanai, where there is seating for 16. The kitchen is beautiful, although we did find there were a few tools missing that one might expect in a gourmet kitchen, such as a garlic press, Chef's knife, barbeque brush, and griddle. There is a media room with comfy recliners where we enjoyed watching the Patriots win the playoffs! There were beach towels and a lunch cooler provided. There is an additional guest room across the Koi pond if needed. The home is a bit out of the way (which is just the way we like it). It was about 40 minutes to Kailua Kona, 20 minutes to Waimea, 2 hours to Volcano, 10 minutes to Hapuna Beach. There is a small market close by, but better to do your main grocery shopping in Kona. There is so much to do on the Big Island. We went on a fishing charter, The beaches of course - Hapuna Beach and Waialea Bay Beach (Beach 69), Tide pools and sea turtles at Puako Beach, Pololu Valley lookout and hike down to black sand beach, Mauna Kea summit tour to see the observatories and stargazing - the skies are amazing!, snorkeling at Honaunau (Two Steps), shopping in Kailua, night snorkeling with manta rays (not to be missed!), Volcano National Park, Hiking Kilauea Iki, Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tour over the volcano, Akaka Falls State Park, and Waipio Vally. And then of course, sitting on the lanai with a good book! Jenny & Mark were great were prompt with communication. We had a minor issue with the WiFi and they were easy to reach and very responsive. I would definitely recommend this home!
This rental house is incredible. It is exactly what it looks like on the pictures. WE have a total of 9 ppl stayed at this rental house and it was way more than enough...We held our wedding at this rental house and there was enough space for the ceremony, reception，dance and everything(we had 18 guests and some other helpers from the wedding planning company). The view is also phenomena. We enjoyed the greatest sunset view almost everyday. The kitchen is equipped with almost everything we needed to cook.(even salt and some salces, you probably still want to stop by at the grocery to buy stuff if you are going to cook) Hapuna beach nearby is a must go!The owner and the people who are responsible for questions during stay were extremely responsive. High recommend!!!
What a magnificent estate!
We were very fortunate to find Jenny and Mark’s beautiful Kohala Coast Estate for our family to relax and entertain for my son and new daughter-in-law’s destination wedding plans at a nearby resort. With a handicapped daughter, the challenges to find a truly wheelchair accessible home, with accommodations for up to 10 of us, was a daunting task. In the end, only 6 could make the trip and the flexibility to meet our final needs made this the perfect spot. This solved the logistics of having our family comfortably settled in one spot. It also put my mind at ease to enjoy the joy of a family reunion and wedding celebration!
What came next was our arrival! It’s hard to describe the beauty of the setting overlooking the Pacific after navigating the magnificent garden walk and Koi Pond entry, spacious foyer, living room and adjoining phenomenal kitchen. All led to the huge lanai and yard through a massive wall of sliding glass doors. What more could be asked for? A perfect sense of spacious openness to the Pacific! A perfect place to enjoy and entertain!
After a good night’s rest in our comfortable Four-Star surroundings we enjoyed spending the next day in the fully equipped kitchen preparing to show off as parents of the groom with a rehearsal barbeque for all attending the wedding. We could not have been happier nor more proud to honor our son and his bride with a reception at Mark and Jenny’s Kohala home! I can only say thank you for being the best Hosts-In-Absentia. The reception was an overwhelming success, primarily the result of its location. We could not have asked for a more inviting place to spread out, entertain, enjoy, relax, renew and celebrate! The rest of the week was perfect with a beautiful beach wedding and more relaxing with family and friends at our private estate!
What a great place for small to large families or multiple families with or without children. The location is convenient to all along the Kohala Coast. It is fully equipped and beautifully appointed. And, it is the best buy from the best folks you will ever have the pleasure to deal with.
I spent 10 days here. The first week was preparing for my daughter's wedding. We played a little before the big event. This home can provide anything you are looking for. It can be a quiet retreat, a place to base family excursions from and an excellent venue for an important event. We used it for all of the above and were very satisfied. The first part of the week we enjoyed the nearby beaches with the grandkids, kayaking and swimming with the dolphins and manta rays. When you needed a rest, there was always a quiet place to go. My daughter's wedding was just the right size with approximately 55 in attendance. The house and grounds were beautiful and easily accommodated the guests during the 'pre-party', ceremony, dinner and dancing. Jenny and her staff were very accommodating. We had a small emergency when I discovered the coffee pot decided to quit but the maintenance manager immediately took care of me. I had never stayed in a vacation home before and I was very pleased with this experience.
The pictures of the property does not do this property justice. I was so amazed i begin to cry from happiness and amazement. There are no words to describe this property it truly was the height of my families vacation. My whole family loved every single part of this house. If you want a truly amazing vacation this is the property to choose. The owners are sooo very nice and helpful they give so much care and assistance to accommodate you to have an easy transition to the island. Just prepare yourself for AMAZEMENT!
