About Dani & Joel

We've lived in Austin since 1999 and we love it. We enjoy traveling (as often as possible) and meeting the travelers that grace our vacation rentals. Our other passions include graphic design, film making, publishing, and wake-surfing on lake Austin.

The proximity to downtown and South Congress is just one of the area's attractions. The neighborhood has gently rolling hills offering views of downtown, is filled with gorgeous live oak trees, and has many recreation opportunities.

Wonderful to come back to at the end of the day!

My husband and I stayed at the Green Door for a week in April. We travel a lot, and I have to say this was one of my favorite rentals ever. The central location is great for getting around Austin. The reservation process and communications regarding the rental were excellent. The townhouse is very well decorated, spotlessly clean, uncluttered, and very comfortable. It has all the amenities you would want: comfortable beds, nice linens and towels, a well appointed kitchen, an outdoor grill, a nice deck to relax on at the end of the day. The photos and description online are spot on.

The attention to detail by the owners is evident and makes the ambience of this place special. We arrived late at night, and Dani had left lights on for us, with the internet radio playing soft music...a very warm welcome. It was a pleasure to stay here. Kudos to Dani and Joel.

Home away from Home!

My husband and I have stayed at the Olive Door as well as the Green Door. In fact, we have friends that have also stayed at homes from the same owners and all of the properties met our full expectations. The location of the properties allowed us to bike and walk to all of our favorite places. The attention to details are far above any other rental homes we have used...the cleanliness, maintenance and customer service is superb. The owners go out of their way to make sure all is taken care of! I highly recommend any of the "Colored Doors" to everyone!

A Peaceful Home in a Lovely Neighborhood

We rent this property when we come in for SXSW every year. It is clean, really well equipped, and close enough to the action that we can ride our bikes from the property to downtown. The beds are super comfortable and the space is clean and quiet. I've stayed in other SocoSpaces properties as well, and they are all this way. The property owners are wonderful and very attentive, and have always been helpful when we need anything. Love this space!

What a great property!

My husband and I stayed at the Plum Door for the month of February while visiting our son and his family. I found SoCo thru an Internet search and immediately thought "wow"; what fabulously designed properties. The reality matched the listing photos to a "t"; no false advertising here! We could not have been happier with the property, the location, or the owners warm and accommodating customer service. We are already planning a return trip to Austin next year and we will most certainly stay at one of the SoCo properties. Our son and daughter-in-law visited us and loved it too. We would highly recommend SoCo Spaces to anyone needing a rental home in Austin. Dani and Joel are a pleasure; they are talented (Dani designed the homes I was told) and their care and pride in the homes shows. Well done!

Disappointed in SoCo Spaces

My wife and I, who have rented numerous properties in the U.S., Europe and Australia just spent three weeks at the Green Door condo (one of four condos named for colors situated in two side-by-side duplexes) in Austin Jan. 2015.

We found ourselves disappointed in the comfort level. Yes, the contemporary, simple lines look nice in the photos on the site, but we didn't really notice that the dining room chairs were plastic with no backs and that the floor was a painted concrete throughout the unit, which is easy to see when looking back at the photos. Only one throw rug to add any warmth and that was a plastic-feeling shag rug underneath the coffee table. The nice looking sectional was rather stiff and the only seating available. The living area needs a comfortable easy chair with an ottoman for an alternate choice to the stiff sectional.

We are retired and beginning to age, and comfort is very important to us. With a few changes it would be a lovely place to rent. It desperately needs carpeting, which would warm the whole place up, and if not that, then at least some soft throw rugs, particularly by the beds. And, replacing the dining room chairs with actual chairs would be better for the back. We found one of the mattresses needed to be replaced, as well.

On the good side, it is in a great location in the Travis Heights neighborhood and close to the desirable SoCo district. It had a very nice wrap-around deck with table and chairs, a nice bathroom with a 'rain' showerhead, and a nice gas range and hood in the kitchen.
