We purchased this property because of it's location. The North Shore of Kauai is so peaceful and private. We live next to the Wainiha river & and are close to the Wainiha Preserve. At night you can hear the ocean surf roll up the river, and hear both river and ocean at the same time! The property is within minutes of SEVERAL of the most astounding beaches! We love to swim at the Lumahai river mouth daily. It is so close and convenient to the house. We are also minutes to the trail head of the famous Napali Coast Trail. Local fresh produce and foods provide us with options for healthy eating & lifestyle.
Serene, close to nature, bird lovers paradise. Continental Breakfast provided if requested. The property is located in the Wainiha Valley on the North Shore of Kauai, and is within minutes of SEVERAL of the most astounding beaches on the north shore of Kauai! River and mountain views. We are also minutes to the trail head of the famous Napali Coast Trail. At night you can hear the sound of the waves crashing, AND the Wainiha River. The cottage is recently renovated. My husband and I had a wonderful stay in the North Shore! We typically try to stay away from big resorts and like to be removed from all the tourists. This was exactly the type of stay that we were looking for. The North Shore is more remote than any other locations in Kauai, but that's why we liked it. You're minutes away from the Kalalau Trail and Kee Beach. You're also about 10-15 minutes away from Princeville which has a grocery store.
As for the cottage itself, it had everything we needed for the week. Paula was so kind to greet us on the road at 11:30pm since our flight landed late. She also provides you with a few yogurts, freshmade granola (DELICIOUS), fresh fruit, and a few other snacks that will get you through the first few days. The cottage is equipped with utensils, plates, bowls, pots and pans, and even a grill! We stayed in a few nights and cooked dinner ourselves.
If you're looking to be away from it all, this is a perfect location! Just make sure that whoever is driving to the cottage is comfortable driving through tiny and windy roads! But that's one of the many things that made our stay that much more authentic.
This North Shore cottage was the perfect setting for us. We're not into resorts, and wanted more of a home-away-from-home experience. Everything was so thoughtful and perfect- just right for a couple, and everything we needed was there. The sounds of nature all around us and the golden light in the morning truly made it seem like we were in paradise. Great location right in the Heart of the North Shore. Gets my strong recommendation for people looking for peace, quiet, and a more authentic Hawaiian experience.
I stayed at Paula's cottage for 1 week with my boyfriend and I couldn't ask for anything more perfect. Not only is the location close to everything but this cute, little cottage became our sanctuary and our home away from home.
The cottage itself was extremely clean, comfy, welcoming and it has everything one can need like beach chairs, towels, beach bag, snorkeling gear, BBQ, etc.
Paula was a wonderful host and probably one of the sweetest people I've ever met. We had fresh fruit, yogurt and her delicious homemade granola waiting for us when we got there. Paula was open to answer all our questions about the island and its people and was not intrusive whatsoever.
I recommend this cottage 110% to everybody. We will definitely be coming back here in the near future :)

Really and sincerely an ideal place. Paula was very sweet and accommodating, and the place is comfortable, relaxed, very clean, and in an ideal location. It's a comfy little pod in the middle of the jungle. My wife and I stayed for a little over a week, and we can't wait to stay again. After a few nights on the island, we went for a drink one evening at the St Regis - aka the fancy hotel - and we were struck at how all we wanted to do was get out of there quickly and head back to our perfect little cabin! I can't recommend it highly enough.
This was our second trip to Kauai, and we wanted some time on the North Shore to experience the sights and activities we had glimpsed before. This is a lovely, quiet, private cottage, even though it is right next door to the owners house. Paula made us feel very comfortable, and we appreciated the delicious granola, fruit, yoghurt, milk and coconut water. There is everything you need for the beach and picnics, and the cottage is well appointed. We liked the DVD collection for evenings. There was several days of rain on the North Shore which made things feel very tropical, damp and often quite cool. However when the sun came out...the North Shore shone! We still explored the beaches, towns and markets in the rain, and 3 different hikes on the Kalalau trail. The Na Pali Coast is beautiful and a swim at Ke'e Beach is the perfect finish to a hike. A great place to explore the North Coast, you feel like a local driving down Powerhouse Road!
What a wonderful hidden gem! We could have stayed another two weeks and not gotten tired of our hidden cottage. We always like to be away from the busy tourist spots and this is a very quiet, romantic little cottage in the rain forest. You wake up to birds and roosters and can see pigs and goats roaming the road on your way in or out. Paula is an excellent host, providing things we needed, but not being intrusive. Always willing to answer our questions about attractions and local plants. We would love to return again in the future, what a beautiful place.
Whale watching, hiking, surfing, fishing, birding, Kite Surfing, Stand up paddle boarding, are all within minutes of this affordable property.
