Great house with a ton of little extras
We loved the southern coast area of Kauai and this house (the Sea Grape Cottage)provided a great central location to explore it. It was spacious and full of many of those little extras that make living there so much better - the food left for us for breakfast (which we made a lavish dinner out of, it was so much!), the guidebooks, the lounge chairs on the deck, even the secluded but roomy clotheslines off the bathroom where we could hang all of our wet stuff every day. We knew that this house is right on the main road, and there's a lot of traffic during commuting hours, but I think anticipating it ahead of time made it much easier to ignore. It's like a river after a while, plus the shrubs hide a lot of it from view. But oh, the stars at night - we could easily see the Milky Way from the lanai every night. In fact, it's so dark there that we came home later one evening and had a devil of a time finding the house again...took 3 passes until we finally spotted it (hint: leave a light on if you're coming home later). It really is far from typical tourist areas, it's in a small neighborhood.
I wouldn't recommend it for young families since the road is a big obstacle between you and the beach, and you can't really swim right there anyway - a few miles west down the road is fine, though. And there are stairs to get to the living areas, so physically disabled visitors wouldn't like it either.
Families with Teenagers,
Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind comments, Vicky. It does get very dark out here, and the place can be hard to find at night. But there's no need to leave a light on! That disorients our night-migrating Shearwater birds, and ruins the star-watching for others. We didn't realize the solar-powered driveway lights had failed, and will replace them immediately. Thanks for letting us know!
