My parents were born in Cuba, moved to the US in 1960 and after my father graduated from The University of Florida, moved to PR with my mom and us, and have consider PR our home, since then. They raised us (three daughters) for most of our life, in this beautiful Rainforest, and named it Hacienda Riverwalk because of the beautiful walking trail by the river.
It was in its origins, a very extensive and productive Coffee Plantation, for many years.
Cristina (Kiki) purchased this house in 1970
My parents liked to enjoy the benefits of a peaceful, beautiful, and safe country living, but at the same time, very close to town and the University of Mayaguez (10 mts drive), where my father was an Engineering Professor, for many years.
Total relaxation, peaceful starling nights, natural river pools, beautiful flora and fauna, very safe, the proximity to beaches and everything in town. Only a 2.5 hr drive from San Juan.
First of all thank you for tolerating our crew. The hospitality you provided was wonderful experience. We did keep a busy schedule and were able to see a lot of PR. Again the experience was great.
The house was a perfect and safe place that will remain in our heart forever.
We were blown away by Casa del Campo. I could've sat on the porch for hours listening to the birds and watching the sun set. The lush jungle vegetation was beautiful to gaze over. Walking through the trails I felt like I was transported into a garden of Eden. The campus was well managed and all the tenants respectable and quiet. We had no problems during our stay. We enjoyed hiking to the top of the mountain and seeing the ocean--what a view!
The lodging itself was clean and neat. We were able to cook all our meals easily with all the utensils provided. Before we left we enjoyed having the host's son Mario over for dinner and sharing in conversation.
This property is beautiful beyond description and I can't wait to return again! Thank you Cristina!
We enjoyed our stay at Casa Del Campo. It was a quiet place surrounded with tropical vegetation. There was a mowed path along the river, and the birds were lovely. The owner was very quick to respond to problems, and Mario, the owner's son, was very personable, welcoming, and happy to answer questions. The photos on the web accurately reflect the inside (though the additional two bedrooms were locked off from us, so we never saw them). However, we were expecting a single family house, but the building has been divided into two apartments, with Casa del Campo on the upper floor. It also has two additional apartments under and attached to the deck. There are also 7 other buildings some very close to this one, mostly rented to students and faculty of the U of Mayaguez. Everyone was extremely quiet and considerate, so noise was not a problem, but when we arrived we thought we were in the wrong place. We picked Casa del Campo for three reasons: the privacy, the hiking trails, and the waterfall pictured on the web. The hiking trail to the top of the mountain was poorly maintained on the upper half; the trail to the waterfall was in the process of being maintained and vanished at the river; it was unclear where to go, and the waterfall had barely a trickle of water. We traveled 1500 miles to come here, so unfortunately Casa del Campo was a disappointment.
The owners have done some updates and improvements to the property since we stayed here in 2013 including the addition of a nice king size bedroom suite and a gas BBQ grill.
We especially enjoy sitting at the table on the extra large tiled patio and playing cards, enjoying a cup of coffee, having meals, and listening to the varied wildlife. The grounds are green and lush with a creek running close by. If you love nature and being away from the crowds then Casa de Campo is definitely for you.
The property is just a few miles from Kmart, Sams Club, several restaurants (Hacienda Latino is one of our favorites, their sangria is a MUST try!), Plaza Mercado and the zoo. Golf Courses and Beaches are everywhere. The much mentioned Playa Sucia is less than an hours drive, Combate Beach is a tad closer and has a restaurant/bar on it, my favorite beach, Costa Corsica, is only 10 minutes! So, this property really has a great location. We were ready to be away from the crowds by the end of the day. Also, in Mayaguez the locals do not treat you like a tourist. Many are bilingual and will help you navigate your needs when you encounter someone who doesn't speak English.
The owner is easy to contact and is VERY responsive to any questions or issues. This is our second stay at this property. We have been all over the island but plan to return here again as soon as we can.
Casa de Campo is a great place to vacation! The house has all you need to feel right at home including Nexflix for the kids. The landscape, river and cascade at walking distance of the house provide a natural scenery. The natural surroundings make one feel peaceful and connected with nature, the birds singing in the morning and the Coqui's at night provide an unique experience. Although you are in a natural surrounding you are only minutes from the city where you can find restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping malls. We are already planning a trip back to Casa de Campo.
This was my third stay at Casa de Campo. My visits have ranged from one week to five weeks. I travel to Mayaguez for research once a year and bring three to six colleagues from around the world with me each time. Casa de Campo has everything we need and is conveniently located for our trips to the university, downtown, to the beaches, or up into the hills. It is a great place to return to after a long day. The views are spectacular, the evenings quiet, and with the full kitchen you have every thing you need to prepare a great meal to enjoy with friends or family. You won’t find anything on the island like it for the price. My next trip will certainly take me back to Casa de Campo.
My two boys and I along with two of their friends spent 8 days at Casa de Campo. What made our stay special was our hikes along the river and up the mountain, enjoying the beautiful view from the deck, listening to the sounds of the jungle at night as the frogs come alive after a rain shower, and exploring the western side of beautiful Puerto Rico. One day we found a jewel of a beach in Joyuda that was one of the most tranquil I have ever seen. The farm house is within easy driving distance to beaches both to the north and south, and within easy access to shopping, theaters and grocery stores in Mayaguez. A truly memorable experience.
Riverwalk is a 60 acre former coffee plantation nettled in the lush tropical rainforest of the Puerto Rican west coast. The property is located within ten to fifteen miles of beautiful beaches and some of the best diving/snorkling at the Desecheo Island Underwater Preserve, surfing, horback riding and an unforgetable sunset catamaran cruise.
We have four vacation rentals in the property, all with a/c in every bedroom, completely furnished, fully equipped kitchens, towels and linens.
Additionally, Riverwalk is only four miles from downtown Mayaguez, home of the University of Puerto Rico Agricultural and Engineering School, a wide assortment of international dining restaurants as well as casual chain-eateries.
