My husband and I purchased this property as our own vacation/retirement home. We made the decision to turn this into a vacation home to share with other travelers and are proud to say we have wonderful guests with well behaved children and pets and have been steadily booking our home since 2009!
Cheryl Preston, Owner, Preston's Thicket Vacation Rental Cabins purchased this cabin in 2004

Pros: location : 5 min to lake Lure, zipline, kayaking, 10 min to Chimney Rock
house : kitchen is fully stocked unlike the most rental houses that have bare
minimum. house is full of antiques, kinda like a museum. very impressive. all appliances
work well. never had any problems. lots of extras like free shampoo, laundry detergent,
welcome basket etc. we always had to bring things like that with us . in this case you can
bring nothing , everything is provided.
returning guests get a 15% discount
Cons: cleaning fee is a bit high in my opinion. more than we usually pay when we rent. we used all 4
bedrooms and paid $150 for the cleaning.
We had a wonderful time and there is a good chance we'll be back.
From the moment we arrived at the Cabin my family loved it. We had my sons 1st birthday party there and my mother got to see all of her kids in one place in over 10 years. The view was beautiful and the ducks were friendly all of the children were feeding them out of there hands. We had a great time and we will be booking another trip there.
I chose this place for its peaceful setting and natural surroundings, and we were not disappointed! Sitting on the large screened porch, enjoying a cup of coffee or glass of wine, is a great way to renew a weary spirit. It was fun feeding the resident ducks. I gave them all names, and they came to dinner when called (wink). My little dog had a great time, too. The cabin was clean and comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped. There were so many interesting things to do in the surrounding area that we couldn't begin to cover them all in a week. The owner gave us great service throughout our stay and even provided a much-appreciated welcome basket. I highly recommend this secluded and beautiful spot for your next getaway!
We had a lovely stay at Preston's Thicket. Two families--four little kids, one big dog, and lots of catching up to do. The house is spacious and homey (with plenty of toys for kids too). We had planned to spend most of our time at the house, so we stocked up on groceries and enjoyed the fishing pond and making smores. The screened in porch was my favorite part though--could watch kids play and fish and catch up with the grown-ups. We took strolls down the road and picked wild blackberries and took dog for a dip in the river. It was a good fit for us--out of the way and a destination in itself. Cheryl was kind and prompt with all communication.
We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Cheryl left us a tasty breakfast of blueberry muffins and enough coffee to satisfy everybody. The cabin was clean and comfortable and the outside environment was excellent. The washer and dryer worked great and having a land line was really nice. This is our second stay and we'll be back for a third. cheryl is very nice to work with, too, providing excellent customer service. The listing was very accurate and the property very clean. Staying here put us within 5 miles of Lake Lure and downtown Chimney rock while allowing us convenient access to family in Forest City. I highly recommend this cabin for a fine vacation.
We had an excellent time at Preston's Thicket. We fished, roasted marshmallows, and went hiking at Chimney Rock. They fed the birds and ducks. We spent 2 days doing absolutely nothing at the lake. We took the little ones gem mining and they had a blast. The mining place close to the cabin actually has quite a bit of finds in the bucket. We have been to places that have barely nothing and the kids walk away disappointed. There are other mining companies closer to Chimney Rock. Our Children were not disappointed at all. We live in the woods of TN but cannot fit our whole family comfortable anymore. This was the perfect home away from home to Sleep 9. Most everything you need is at the cabin. There was not enough time to do everything we wanted to do. Plan your time accordingly if you want to try everything! Thank you again for allowing us the use of your wonderful home. I have brought home some ideas for my own.
