Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cabin in Flagstaff - Rocky Mountain Retreat
Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 7-8)

Beautiful Rocky Mountain Retreat is located halfway between Flagstaff and Williams, AZ at 7500 ft elevation surrounded by 3 secluded acres of tall Ponderosa Pines. This immaculate cabin is beautifully decorated and fully furnished with all the modern amenities. There are 2 bathrooms, one queen-size bedroom, a full-size bedroom and a third room with a bunk bed with a full-size on the bottom and twin on top. There are also a pull-out queen sofa-bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the modern appliances you could need and full sets of serving and cooking utensils for entertaining. Free high-speed wireless internet is available (hopefully for fun not work :-). There is also a full-size washer and dryer. Hair dryers, curling irons and basic toiletries are included. There are plenty of cozy pillows and blankets and several sleeping bags. You can curl up in front of the stone fireplace and watch the wildlife outside. Rocky Mountain Retreat has all the comforts of home.

Outside the Cabin:: The large wraparound deck is great for outdoor family meals. Then relax with some marshmallows around the campfire or watch the swaying trees or bright stars as you lay in the hammock. Children will love the tree house with slide and hammock, swing sets, horseshoes, or playing basketball in front of the 2-car garage. There is a huge selection of board games, videos and DVDs as well as 3 satellite TVs. Hiking and off-roading trails abound. The Grand Canyon Deer Farm/Petting Zoo and Oak Hill Snowplay area (in winter) are only minutes away. There are several small lakes nearby, as well as the Lava Cave and breath-taking Sycamore Canyon hiking/rock climbing area. The area around our cabin is abundant with elk.

The Area:: Rocky Mountain Retreat offers a true sense of being away from it all, yet the town of and Flagstaff with over 200 restaurants, great night life and shopping is only 20 mins away. The historic Route 66 town of Williams is only 10 mins away, where you can catch the Grand Canyon Railway or Polar Express (in winter). The Grand Canyon is a 45 min drive, and fantastic Oak Creek Canyon/ Sedona is about 30 mins. There are two downhill ski resorts 30 and 45 mins away and a cross country ski trail just a couple minutes away. Snowbowl resort is at 11,500 ft elevation and offers 32 trails of great skiing/snowboarding; in the summer you can take the skyride to the top for panoramic views that include the Grand Canyon, and fantastic hiking. Rocky Mountain Retreat has something for everyone. Why stay in a hotel room or rent a house in a subdivision when you can create the special memories of a real get-away vacation in the cool pines at Rocky Mountain Retreat!

About Dawn

My husband and I have always loved the mountains. He grew up in the city (Chicago), but I grew up in rural California camping in Yosemite most weekends with my parents, wonderful memories... We wanted to own a special mountain retreat where we could build our family memories while our kids were still young (the above picture is 13 years after we built our cabin ;). We love our time in the woods and our cabin has become very special to our family. We truly enjoy sharing our cabin with our guests.

Dawn purchased this cabin in 1999
Why Dawn chose Flagstaff

We searched a lot of mountain areas and decided that the Flagstaff area had the most to offer - beautiful pine tree covered mountains, close access to skiing, the Grand Canyon and Sedona, a great historic town with tons of restaurants and shopping, and temperatures 20-25 degrees cooler than Phoenix. The town of Flagstaff has a wonderful mix of small-town quaintness and great energy from the young university population. There are fantastic family-owned restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques, as well as all the convenient chain stores we're used to. We knew we wanted acreage with lots of trees (we have enough of 'subdivision life' in Phoenix). We found some beautiful land just 20 mins outside Flagstaff and built our cabin. It was a dream come true for us. We hope your family enjoys this peaceful getaway as much as we have!

Wonderful Home! Wonderful Owner!

Review Submitted: 04 May 2013 Date of Stay: April 2013
If you are planning a trip to Grand Canyon or anywhere else in the beautiful area, this is probably the best home you can rent. Private, secure, very clean, and amazing property. After being cooped up in the car traveling, our dog absolutely loved the acres to explore.
There is a fantastic deck, BBQ, kitchen, and very comfortable bed and living area. A bonus is the satellite TV to unwind after being awestruck by Grand Canyon.
The owner has been extremely easy to work with, super responsive, and caring.
We have rented a number of high- end homes (like this one) through HomeAway and VRBO, and this home ranks at the very top.

Family trip West

Review Submitted: 11 April 2013 Date of Stay: March 2013
We enjoyed a fantastic stay at this property. It was the perfect central location for all our jaunts out and about to Grand Canyon, Walnut Canyon, Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert. We were able to hike to the rock formation close to house one afternoon and bumped into a herd of Pronghorns!! The house was well stocked, even with handy items like flashlights (for lava tubes!!), stain remover, toiletries and more. My kids loved the rooms and their own bathroom. I enjoyed the well stocked kitchen and laundry facilities. Water conservation is a bit daunting initially, but we adjusted and made allowances. Our cell phones did not work, so we appreciated the warning!! The wifi was reliable and we loved cable TV (we do not have at home, so it was a treat!!). A heads-up... our 'mapquest' directions placed the house to the left on road and house is to the right. We arrived late at night and were confused at first ... possibly have a reflective sign??
We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Peaceful and Quiet

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 06 April 2013 Date of Stay: March 2013
We had a lovely time at the Rocky Mountain Retreat! The area is so peaceful and quiet, right up on the side of a mountain among the tall pine trees, we only heard the wind blowing or else it was perfectly silent. The cabin was clean and modern and felt very spacious, exactly as pictured and promised. The cabin's central location allowed us to explore Flagstaff, Williams, Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Bearizona, and many other attractions. Our only suggestion would be that the mattress in the master bedroom seemed to be lacking any support in the middle and may need to be replaced. We did appreciate the private bathroom adjoining the master bedroom, however, and we had plenty of space. All in all, the cabin was clean and well maintained, Dawn was responsive and easy to work with, and we would definitely recommend Rocky Mountain Retreat to others!

Great Cabin

4 out of 5
Review Submitted: 26 January 2013 Date of Stay: December 2012
We (my husband and 2 year old and 3 year old) stayed 2 nights to go play in the snow. It was great!
It had just snowed the 2 days before and then snowed some more while we were there. We had tire chains, but my husband was very happy that we didn't have to use them since we had fairly new tires on our Tahoe. I think we might have needed them if we had a car with not much tread. The road was clear until about 2 miles away from the cabin. As we got closer, the elevation was increasing and it gets colder and icy.
The directions that Dawn gave us were perfect! It was exactly as she said. She gave us a code to open the garage and we were able to pull the Tahoe inside and unload.
Our biggest concern was having to move a lot of knick knacks out of reach of little hands. There were a few plants to move but not too much stuff. The kids loved it! It was warm and cozy inside. There was satellite tv but we couldn't find a channel for young children, but we brought dvds for them to watch so it was fine. They had some dvds there but I think they would have been more interested if they were a couple of years older. They also had a game station, but our kids aren't quite old enough just yet for that.
There were sleds in the garage that we were able to use. We sledded with them in the driveway. There was plenty of snow and only a small descent down the driveway. We thought about sledding up closer to the tree house where it was more steep, but decided it was too steep for their age.
The kids loved the tree house too! The 3 year old was able to climb the ladder but it was a little scary for the 2 year old, so dad carried her up. Then, they were able to slide down! It was a little icy on the slide, which made for a very fast descent, and a landing into a bed of snow. The 3 year old loved it and did it multiple times, but only once for the 2 year old. She was a little more apprehensive.
Overall, it was near perfect! The one small thing was the bed in the master bedroom. It was VERY creaky! Both my husband and I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. It was impossible to get up without waking the other because of the noise level. He is a pretty sound sleeper and even he couldn't sleep thru my getting up. The second night we slept in different beds to minimize the noise.
We will definitely go back!
