With easy access, but behind a hill, this very private 3000 sq ft home on 4 acres offers nearly a mile of deserted, sandy beach front with great snorkeling, diving, kayaking, and bone fishing from your own backyard, yet protected by reef. Enjoy the cool ocean breeze, peace and quiet, with expansive ocean front views from your covered porch. Every amenity is here to satisfy the most discriminating vacationer. Leave your stress behind and enjoy tranquility on this beautiful beachfront property. A/C if needed. Scuba diving, deep sea fishing, sailing, can be arranged. The great room is furnished with Italian leather sofa and loveseat, quality furnishings, leather recliners for TV viewing, and teak dining table and chairs. Services & Travel to Cat Island: Out of Nassau(NAS)twice daily on Sky Bahamas. www.skybahamas.net. Out of Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) on Bahamas Express for a private charter.. www.flybahamasexpress.com.

. If you are flying in from Europe take British Airways from London to Nassau.

If flying by private airplane the identifier for New Bight Cat Island is MYCB. There is no fuel but one can fuel up at Georgetown in the Exumas or North Eleuthera on Eleuthera or Nassau.

Extra Services: We can arrange for you to go on a day sail, moonlight sail,or evening dinner sail. Deep sea fishing is available with qualified guides. Scuba diving can also be arranged. There are many excellent sites for wall and shallow reef diving. Excellent snorkeling, scuba diving and bone fishing out of your own backyard. We will provide transportation to and from the airport with your rental. Local food preparation can be arranged for delivery or in-home preparation. Local masseuse is available. The property is located near Port Howe on the south side of Cat Island. If you have a boat, their is room to anchor in 4 feet of water or more behind the reef. There is an entrance but does not show up on the charts.

RENTAL CONTRACT: My rental contract is 3 pages and does include a hurricane refund clause. I will be glad to e-mail or mail a copy to you for your perusal before deciding to commit.

BAHAMAS

Some solitude seekers insist there's a direct relationship between proximity and peace: The farther you travel, the more quiet things get. Then there's Cat Island, a 48-mile-long coral outcrop just 265 miles east of Florida and only 45 minutes from Nassau. SkyBahamas Airlines flies to Cat Island daily from Nassau (skybahamas.net, round-trip from $179), yet of the over 5 million travelers to the Bahamas last year, only a fraction made a call on Cat. What they found here wasn't much, and in a good way: thatch-roof beach bars and empty pink-sand bays, diving and gentle hikes up Mt. Alvernia, the Bahamas's highest point at 206 feet above sea level. There's a new waterfront restaurant in Arthur's Town called Da Smoke Pot that serves sweet-and-sour conch and rum punch, and hosts musicians on the porch playing Bahamian songs on the musical saw (242/354-2094, sweet-and-sour conch $15).

Poodle House on Cat Island

My wife, daughter and I just returned from a wonderful stay on Cat Island. The island is a special place with genuine, friendly people and no commercial development to speak of. It lives up to its billing as an unspoiled sanctuary in the Out Islands.

Staying at the Poodle House made our vacation on Cat Island an unforgettable experience. Previous reviews may seem to overstate the amenities of the house, but believe me, they do not. The gourmet kitchen is mind blowing and I do not have the words to describe what it is like to wake up to a Bahamian sunrise in the master suite with the ocean waves lapping the beach just outside the back door.

And the beach! Beautiful sand, completely private, with world class snorkeling reefs within a few short strokes from the shore. The sea is gin clear and we saw nearly every variety of reef fish in the guide book (except sharks, and we were fine with that.)

Bruce made every effort to ensure we were set up with all the arrangements necessary for a perfect stay in his beautiful house. I couldn't have asked for a more accommodating host or a more beautiful location for our family vacation. The Poodle House is perfect for a family retreat, a romantic getaway, or a couples' vacation. We will be back.

Amazing Kitchen

We just finished our last supper in the Poodle House with local lobster sautéed in garlic and Port Howe tomato sauce over pasta, followed by roast Bahamian chicken and vegetables. Banana flambé for dessert. This is an amazing place and even a value when you consider that the spec rental houses hardly measure up to a house like this which is beautifully designed, appointed and furnished as a family's elegant high end beach house. My wife is an architectural critic by profession and she approved this message. The downside is that we may have to redo our kitchen when we get home. Best kitchen I have ever rented! Strangely I cannot think of any suggestions for improvements. Thanks. Warren

A Quiet Way of Life

Tropical Cat Island for two weeks--it was a place for relaxation in elegant comfort and in warm waters, a place that calls visitors to learn about the people and their history too. The Albros have a comfortable home for their guests, complete with top of the line appliances, granite countertops, tile flooring and cypress paneling. The furnishings in the spacious rooms are of high quality and simple. Examples of local artisanry are displayed. You will feel comfortable here. The very private beach is ever present. What a fabulous place to swim and snorkel! Cat Islanders are welcoming--among them are great fishermen and women, divers, small business owners, fabulous cooks, artisans who work in shell, wood and thatch. The island's history and landmarks are worth exploring and the surrounding seas are unforgettable. I cried when I left.

the best vacation ever!

The house was beautiful- every detail was carefully thought out and was well taken care of... it had everything you could need.. the hot tub was great (and very clean)... the beach was gorgeous and private... we only saw people (at a far distance) one time the entire vacation. Bruce and Una were incredibly helpful and nice; they truly extended themselves to make our trip great. Although I am tempted to keep Poodle House a secret, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a tranquil and beautiful vacation!

Best Vacation Ever

First time to Bahamas and could not have picked a better place. From the first view pulling into the drive til the last sunrise before leaving my wife and I enjoyed this home, the beach and snorkeling. Most secluded beaches we have ever experienced and saw absolutely no one during our days on the sand. Took a fishing / snorkeling trip with friends Bruce had introduced us to and my wife caught a nice blue marlin as well as several large dolphin fish. The locals treated us as family and we made so many friends in such a short period of time. This house was so inviting with all the ammenities of home. My wife and I were comfortable from the minute we stepped through the door. Pictures do not do justice to this beautiful home or all the shades of blue in the ocean. Thank you so much Bruce, Lucille, Roy and the people of Port Howe for the best vacation ever. Eight days was not long enough and we are already planning our next trip.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Romantic Getaway
