My husband John and I both enjoyed busy careers for over thirty years in New York City.. John, good with all things mechanical worked both with his hands and in management in the electrical industry. I have always enjoyed understanding people ,art and nature. The Human Resources profession was my passion working with people and extraordinary companies in Fashion, Fine Jewelry, and Art. Together we enjoy making people happy..so here we are, hoping to meet interesting people and doing everything we can to help our guests enjoy their time in our home.
Maritza Budet and John Winkler purchased this apartment in 2004
John and I chose Greenport Village because of my love of antiques and wonderful 'unspoiled' older homes, while enjoying an innocent and simple quality of life in the Village. John's love of all things in or near the water.. boating, fishing, swimming... fresh seafood....The Long Island Sound and Peconic Bay made it a simple choice with countless activities to enjoy.

We spent a lovely weekend at this home. Loved the nearby restaurants, the quick walk to the beach, and of course the property itself. It was a beautifully restored place, very roomy,, and the pictures don't do it justice. The location is peaceful and charming. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and would definitely return.
Maritza and John ... You have a lovely home in a great location walkable to town, shopping, restaurants, historical sights and the water ... couldn't of asked for anything better!! Thank you so much for your hospitality and we hope to visit again soon!!
My wife, two kids (12 and 6) and I spent 4 days and 3 nights at John and Maritza's home this past week and had a wonderful time. The home was very clean and the decor was a beautiful antique style. The home is close to the Shelter Island and Orient Point Ferry's as well as walking distance from the beach. We would definitely return again and thank you again John and Maritza.
We stayed at this property this very cold weekend and couldn't have been happier. We had my two daughters with us and were more than happy with the accommodations and service we received. Upon arrival, the place was absolutely immaculate with a complimentary bottle of Chardonnay waiting. The pictures online don't do it justice. The charm and character the place has is amazing. There are more than enough clean towels in the bathroom, with plenty of extra toiletries (if you forget your conditioner like I did). The kitchen is charming to cook and eat in and the owners (Maritza and John) provided us with a perfect highchair and two pack and plays there were already assembled upon arrival. The TV has DirecTV and a DVD with great kid friendly and comedy selections. My two year old daughter slept with my husband in the double bed and kept telling me she loved her room. I was able to sleep with the baby in the master, but there are more combinations that are doable because of the amount of space. THANK YOU SO MUCH JOHN AND MARITZA. We can't wait to return in August when the weather is nice and we can take the girls to the playground and to the carousel in downtown Greenport.
We had a perfect time in Greenport staying in John & Maritza's 1st floor apartment. It has everything you can think of, plus more. We used the Jitney to get from Manhattan to Greenport & back which worked really well. The lack of car during our stay was actually a bonus, as we used the bikes supplied to explore, as well as the ferry to shelter island. Our stay was very relaxing & a great contrast to time in Manhattan. We had great weather & used the beach chairs to relax on the beach at the end of the road a couple of times. Highly recommended, we hope to return
As positive as all the prior reviews are, and as lovely as the pictures of this beautiful home are, they only begin to hint at the wonderful experience that awaits you upon your arrival and during your stay here.
My expectations were that this would be a pretty and comfortable place to stay in a village that my husband and I have come to love. We wanted to have a vacation where we would stay in a place that felt more like a home than a hotel or b&b. My expectations were exceeded in every way; the rooms are spacious, the furnishings are both elegant and homey, with loving attention to detail. The kitchen is well equipped, the appliances are in great shape, and everything is laid out in a very intuitive way. Everything SPARKLES.The shower stall is a little small (and I am a little big), but that's because it's on the same side of the bathroom as the stacked washer and dryer (which are a wonderful convenience and very easy to use). The neighborhood itself is quiet and serene; we were awakened every morning by birdsong outside the bedroom windows, instead of traffic noise. It's a five minute walk from town, and two minutes from the Fifth Street beach (with beautiful plantings that Maritza, John and their friend Helen attentively maintain). For nature lovers, there's a lot to see, just on daily walks in the neighborhood. There's an osprey nest just east of the beach's parking area with young birds in it. On our daily walks, we saw bunnies on lawns, egrets, purple finches, red-winged blackbirds, grackle families, and even a deer!
Maritza and John are very friendly and such dear people, One of our nicest memories of our stay in Greenport is the afternoon we all spent chatting on their porch, sharing a bottle of wine from their friend Frank's vineyard (Frank owns D'Latte and Biere in the village--our midmorning gelato & espresso breaks at D'Latte are another unforgettable memory). The Winklers are warm, sweet, and down-to-earth-- by our second day, we felt like we were staying with family...in a good way :). They are very knowledgeable about the area and have available several wonderful Greenport history books for you to peruse during your stay. With all the amenities provided, you really only need bring your clothes and toothbrush.
I know I'm going to be dreaming about this beautiful home until we have the chance to come back again. Our stay was a relaxing, revitalizing experience that bears repeating on an at least annual basis. We can't wait to return!
Greenport Village is a historic harbor front village with lovely restored homes, antique shops, art galleries, book shops, waterfront dining, antique carousel and more. The North Fork is also know as wine country with over thirty vineyards. Fresh farm stands are within a few miles to enjoy local fresh produce. Harvest season is also very popular for pumpkin picking and local events.
