On Golden Pond:
This home is perfect for a group of folks who want to enjoy all that western Montana has to offer. The home has close views of the Bitterroot and Sapphire mountains. You can walk out any of the bedrooms or the den and watch waterfowl on one of the ponds. The den is perfect for playing pool, Foosball or enjoying a glass of wine at the bar. Whitetail deer, fox, coyote, California quail, ducks, geese, pheasants, turtles and bull frogs are some of the wildlife that call this property their home.
I always use VRBO when I travel so it was easy to place this home with them. I retired from a 32 year career in 2006. My goal was to start a lavender farm on the property and that is what I am doing!
Marilyn A. Morris purchased this house in 2000
My family is from Montana and we love it here!
beautiful mountain setting; 33 acres of wildlife habitat; 2 trout ponds
Even though I grew up in Hamilton, I think of the view from your deck when I reminisce about the Bitterroot. This was our fourth time staying On Golden Pond.We have gazed at the deer, quail, hummingbirds, finches, chick-a-dees, sunrises, sunsets, the moon and the stars all week long. Another fabulous, relaxing vacation!
This was our third stay. The location is great for a group that likes to fish the Bitterroot. The house is absolutely beautiful. The kitchen is well stocked. The den is a great place to relax, complete with pool and foosball tables. On property is a stocked pond with 22" trout for catch and release. So relaxing. So perfect. We look forward to next year.
On Golden Pond is an immaculate house offering excellent facilities to our group of 4 couples. The owner, Marilyn, provides everything we could possibly ask for, and we have now enjoyed our stay there every summer for the last 5 years. The fishing in the Bitterroot is wonderful, and if you hit it right, the Mill Creek running through the property will produce some nice brownies. We don't eat out because we like to cook for ourselves, and to enjoy patio dining, watching the wildlife and, on July 4th, a wonderful show of fireworks in the valley. We have already booked our return visit next year!
We felt at home. It was wonderful to be able to enjoy four generations of family in such a beautiful setting! Everything we needed was to be found in the house and on the grounds. We are already looking for a reason to come back.
The reason for our first stay at "On Golden Pond" was to visit our father's resting place near Skalkaho Falls. We had found that staying at "On Golden Pond" was just as reasonably priced as smaller cabin's we looked into down the road. When we arrived at "our home" for the week, we ALL fell in love with the home, the property, and all that nature had to offer, surrounding it. Marilyn came to check on us shortly after we got settled in. Honestly she will do everything within her power to make sure you are well taken care of. Yummy honey, will await you when you arrive, the smell of homegrown lavender in the air. Quail, deer, turkey's, fish, bull frog's, turtles, and large Montana cranes that look like ostrich's in yonder field's. Montana skies from sunrise to twilight on the back deck....wow! Beds are very comfy. Played pool, fished, cooked in the fabulous kitchen. Needless to say when we came back last August our destination was "On Golden Pond" this time, although we did go visit Skalkaho Falls, Lake Como! And Seeley Lake too. Thank you Marilyn for sharing such a peaceful, spiritual place with us. You have our heart's. hope to see you soon!
We had a great time at Golden Pond. The house is spacious and beautifully maintained. The setting is wonderful. The kitchen is nicely laid out for cooking and the grill on the porch was a plus. We did not even think about dinner out. Marilyn is a fantastic and generous host. We have already booked our stay for next year.
We are 4 couples who have stayed "on Golden Pond" every summer for the last 4 years. Marilyn is the most gracious and charming owner, who cannot do enough to make us feel at home. The house is quiet and comfortable, with lovely views on both sides. The local restaurants are nothing to write home about, so we prefer to cook our own meals, and eat them on the terrace, watching the wildlife.
The fly fishing locally on the Bitterroot River is world class, and even our non-fishing friends love to join us on guided floats down the river in drift boats. (406 Outfitters in Missoula have the best guides in the State of Montana). We have no hesitation in recommending this property to anybody who enjoys the Great Outdoors!
The Bitterroot Valley is known for its beauty and a style of life which is sought after. We are surrounded by mountains, Sapphire mountains and Bitterroot mountains. We have historical sights surrounding us. Lewis and Clark traveled through this valley and almost starved while doing so. We have the Selway wilderness area to the west of us.
