Best Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house! We had a group of 6 adults and 1 infant...there was plenty of room for more! The house had plenty of linens, towels, pots & pans, dishes...everything we needed and more. The house was beautiful, clean...and secluded. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Oh....except for the navigation takes you to the second house on Pinto...actually the road dead ends at this property!

Oh...the location was super convenient. Close to so many attractions!

Owner's Response: Glad you had a great time! This is a good time to add that GPS navigation in the Black Hills can lead to many unintentional off road adventures :) The home is at the end of the road, although Google and Mapquest haven't figured that out yet.

Lovely home in the Black Hills

  • 5 of 5

This house was the highlight of our recent trip to the Black Hills area. Our family of 10 was scattered across multiple hotels in Rapid City until we were lucky enough to be able to rent this lovely home for the remainder of our trip. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the deer graze in the meadow. We also barbecued our meals several evenings on the porch. The kitchen was fully stocked with spices, paper towels, pots and pans, serving bowls, etc. to cook just about anything. We had ample room to spread out and visit with one another. The house was ideally located in the center of Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park, Jewel Cave, Wind Cave, Mammoth Site, and Evans Plunge. Although the dryer was broken upon our arrival, we noted that the owners were promptly repairing it with the handyman arriving to the hour that we were to check out to minimize inconvenience to ourselves or the next guests. The local gnats also thought that the house was lovely and hundreds of them invaded by sneaking in through the cracks around the window AC units. Anticipate spending some time cleaning them up. Overall, we greatly enjoyed this lovely home and highly recommend it to all, especially if you have a large group.

The quintessential vacation home

  • 5 of 5

For a week my husband, three children, son-in-law, and I enjoyed this beautiful home. We were all so impressed with everything the house had to offer: a well stocked kitchen, porches from which to watch the deer, plenty of space to spread out, and a pool table at which everyone who wasn't me won at least one game. We enjoyed exploring the abandoned mines near the house and discovered that if you climb to the top of the hill behind the barn and - with binoculars - look out over the house you can clearly see Crazy Horse. We had a great day for Mount Rushmore. We took the scenic drive and saw so many animals: bison, prong horn antelope, wild burros, prairie dogs. I really love prairie dogs. No one would let me get out of the car and pet the bison. Probably good advice, though their thick fur looks very inviting. We approached Mount Rushmore through tunnels carved in rock. We drove over the pigtail bridges and saw the eye of the needle. Mount Rushmore was so impressive. We went back again one evening to see the ceremony where it is lit up; this is well worth the time. We explored both the Wind Caves and the Jewel Caves and enjoyed them both immensely. We spent some time at Sylvan Lake and hiked some of the trails in Custer Park. There was one day when my daughter and son-in-law did a 30 mile bike ride while my husband, sons and I drove two hours west and explored Devil's Tower. Not a bad drive at all and the four of us so enjoyed ourselves. Kirsten and Ben loved the well maintained bike trails. Two little local places that probably don't make many of the tourist books: the Purple Pie place (probably not its real name but if you stay at this house you will pass it while heading into Custer) is a great find. The pies are wonderful, the coffee is great, and the people are fun.The other place we absolutely loved was the little museum in downtown Custer. We couldn't believe how much history was packed into that little building.

This was a perfect place for the six of us to get away together. It was easily accessible to everything we wanted to do (and lots of things we didn't have time to get to). It was perfect for relaxing. We cooked dinner every night but one. Grilled out on the porch on two different evenings. There were a couple of cool rainy afternoons when I made cookies which we all enjoyed while putting together a jigsaw puzzle or playing games. There was space to be together and space to hang out separately. I would recommend this home to all.

Comfortable spacious home in bucolic setting

  • 5 of 5

This property was as presented in the pictures only much larger. It was more than ample for our group of four and could comfortably accomodate more than twice that number. Kitchen was well equipped and living space on the main floor had lots of cushy furniture for everyone. The owner provided all of the supplies we needed. The location was ideal-private with a real country feel but very close to town. We enjoyed watching the deer from the deck!

Enjoy the surrounding Black Hills National Forest which surrounds the property with miles of hiking trails, great mountain scenery and rock climbing. Watch the wildlife in the meadow in front of the home and wander through Custer State Park (within 10 minutes) where the buffalo roam and the deer and the antelope play. Where seldom is heard a discouraging work and the skies are not cloudy all day!
