HONEYMOON PENTHOUSE

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Centro Storico (Old Rome)

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2)

Within the historic center, a stone’s throw from the Spanish Steps, this penthouse has one of the most magnificent views of Rome you will ever see. From North to South East, the view spans encompasses the gardens of Villa Borghese, Villa Medici (now the French Academy) and its gardens, the towers of the church of Trinità dei Monti, the dome of St.Peter’s, the dome of the Pantheon, the Vittoriano monument, the presidential palace, and all the old roofs and domes that make Rome unforgettable.

Sited at the edge of the Pincio hill, the building was built in the late 1880s and enjoys the luxury of facing only parks and gardens in the immediate vicinity, and seeing the entire bowl of the historic center, all the way to the Gianicolo on the opposite side, without the disadvantage of noise or traffic.

Within walking distance, one can reach Via Veneto with all its cafés and stores, the park of Villa Borghese, and to the west the Spanish Steps which lead to via Condotti and the most elegant boutiques in Rome.

The building has a beautiful classic entrance with concierge. An old wood-trimmed elevator goes up to the top floor. From there the door to the apartment leads to a small stair that takes you further up to the attic level. For convenience, a dumbwaiter was installed to carry suitcases and anything heavy from the top floor to the penthouse

The apartment has one bedroom, two bathrooms, a galley kitchen and a large living room with working fireplace. The living room has unobstructed views of Rome through floor to ceiling windows, and a huge terrace that essentially doubles the living space inside. Two zones of air conditioning for the summer, and an independent boiler for the winter ensure complete climatic control in any season of the year.

Not to be missed!

We stayed at the Honeymoon Penthouse and enjoyed our stay greatly. Traveling a lot and staying in many apartments around the world, we can say without a doubt, that the Honeymoon Penthouse in Rome provided one of the best 'staying away' experiences for us. The apartment is very charming and well equipped. It is very specious for a couple but of course, the most exciting feature of the apartment is its amazing terrace, overlooking all over Rome!
The Penthouse is conveniently located just above the Spanish Steps and it is very easy to get from the apartment to all the tourist attractions. The owners, Alessandra and Enrico are very attentive and do their best to welcome their guests, making sure their stay will be as pleasant as possible. If you have the chance to stay here, don't hesitate!

A week to remember

  • 5 out of 5
My wife had been using VRBO properties for a number of years so we decided to use it for our trip to Rome. What a find this apartment is. More importantly, Alesandra and Enrico are the best!! Everything that they post about this apartment is spot-on. The location is perfect for a week of sight-seeing, shopping and dining in Rome. Pictures and words cannot do this apartment justice; it really needs to have a 6-Star rating. There are great restaurants within a 5 minute walk. There is a great wine store around the corner. The Metro stop, grocery store, pharmacy and hardware store are minutes away. It is a very short walk to some of the finest clothing stores and sights in the world. This place leaves you wanting nothing!

Made Our Stay

  • 5 out of 5
Spacious, bright, well appointed and with 2 full bathrooms. Fast, reliable internet. Doorman at the building entrance was very nice and was expecting us the day we arrived. Alessandra is available both before and during your stay to answer questions and to assist guests with special requests.

We were there early November and the weather was still mild. Would have liked to keep the windows open all the time, but you do have to be mindful of the mosquitoes as Roman windows don't have screens so used the air conditioning at night.

The kitchen stove and oven are easy to operate so we could make tea and warm up baked goods for breakfast in the morning. The closest small full service grocery store, Despar, will do for basics, although we had to go to two more stores before we could find tissues to have in the apartment! The neighborhood bakery has a good selection but they sell out fast so try to get there early.

I wowed everyone we met in Italy with photos of the terrace and the view of the Vatican. Make sure you are home in time for a sunset at least one day as the terrace has a great western view. The neighborhood above the Spanish Steps is very quiet both day and night and very elegant and safe, definitely a 5 star location. Alessandra provides a comprehensive instruction booklet, to which I would add that if there are no taxis around the corner at the first taxi stand, just walk a couple of blocks past the Eden Hotel and you are at a major intersection by the Westin Hotel where there are always lots of taxis at the stand, day or night. Restaurant tips: if you plug the Eden Hotel (around the corner from the apt.) into your Tripadvisor Rome Saves list, you can then use that reference point to research good restaurants within walking distance or a short cab ride from the apt. Also highly recommend the EAT ROME app.

Many sights are within a 20 minute walk but we did take taxis for the early morning tours we had booked for the Vatican and Colosseum.

Perfect apartment in Rome

  • 5 out of 5
Before getting to the apartment I must first discuss Alessandra. Rather than staying in hotels we prefer to rent homes when we travel, and we can say with absolute certainty Alessandra is the most thoughtful, well-organized, accommodating owner with whom we have ever dealt. Before arriving in Rome, Alessandra provided us with information about the apartment and surrounding area (places to eat, sights to see, etc.). When I say “information” I don’t mean a quick overview, as pretty much everything save for how to survive a zombie apocalypse is covered in the materials; it was unbelievable and greatly appreciated. Now, to the apartment. The apartment is located just a few blocks from the Spanish Steps and the Borghese Gardens in a beautiful old building. The area is quiet during the day and evening, but is within short walking distance of great dining, shopping, and historical sights. Once you ascend in the fantastic elevator and arrive in the apartment you are greeted by what has to be the best view in all of Rome. From Palatine Hill, to the Victor Emmanuel Monument, to the Presidential Palace, to St. Peter’s Basilica, all of Rome is laid out before you. At night the view is even more spectacular. Once you take in the view (this could take a while) you’ll find an apartment that has everything you could possibly need for a wonderful stay in Rome. What’s most enjoyable about the apartment is that it truly feels like someone’s home (because it is) rather than a simple rental property – it has character, warmth, and charm. We would highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking to spend time in Rome; it’s perfect.
