Welcome to our cabin retreat located at the base of Caribou Mountain adjacent to both the Caribou National Forest and the Grays Lake National Wildlife refuge in Southeastern Idaho. We sit on approximately 80 acres in the midst of a recreational wonderland.
There are miles and miles of forest trails to hike, bike, cross country ski, snowshoe, snowmobile, ATV or horseback ride right from our front door. You can be fishing premier trout streams and mountain lakes within minutes, including the South Fork of the Snake River, Blackfoot River and Reservoir, Salt River, Grays River and our home water Tincup Creek. The Grays Lake National Wildlife Refuge is home to many species of wildlife and a birders haven. We often have resident populations of moose, deer, elk and sand hill cranes right on our property. This is a trophy hunting area for all big game species. Arrangements can be made with local outfitters and guides for both hunting and fishing.
Most of all we offer tranquil seclusion. Enjoy some downtime and the beautiful scenery and wildlife. The closest towns with facilities are 30-40 miles away. Jackson Hole, Wyoming is about 70 miles and a great day trip. Your accommodations are self sufficient and luxurious. The guest quarters are in a separate building from the main cabin and feature an open floor plan of approximately 1000 square feet. There is a king size bed, double sofa sleeper, hardwood floors, eat- in kitchen, full bath, gas fireplace and laundry facilities. Even though we are secluded you will enjoy high speed internet, telephone service, satellite television, shared use of the spa, barbecue, outdoor campfire and much more.
We welcome guests with horses and can arrange boarding for up to four horses. We have a three-stall barn and three adjacent outdoor pens. Additionally we have approximately 10 acres fenced with horse-safe Centaur fencing. We also have facilities for trailers and RV’s with one full hook-up. An adjacent ranch has additional RV facilities.
Your hosts, Cheryl and Chuck Greenhawt, or our neighbors Brian and Alicia Muir can assist you in planning your visit. We are always pleased to share our knowledge of the area and can often be persuaded to ride or fish with our guests.

In the mid nineties we were searching for property to someday retire to and spend our summers horseback riding and fishing. We wanted more than just a couple of acres in subdivision. We found this property that fulfilled all of our dreams. 80 acres adjacent to national forest riding tails and many streams and lakes nearby to fish. The isolation and serenity were welcome but we were persuaded to build a cabin big enough to welcome lots of family and friends. In 2007 we finished building our dream retreat and now split our time between our cabin, travelling and our other home in Salt Lake City.
There aren't many places where you can truly enjoy 360 degree views of breathtaking scenery. We enjoy simply sitting on the back porch to enjoy the views and watch the wildlife.
The hardest part of this retreat is believing it is the one on the hill with the most beautiful view of all. When we stopped at a neighbor's place to make sure we were in the right place, he said< "no, it's that one up there," pointing to a beautiful home at the top of the opposite hill. The pictures in the listing cannot do the actual location justice. When we walked into the upstairs studio, we found a cute, well-designed and appointed unit with all the amenities you could want for a comfortable stay. It was clean, well-maintained and the owners invited us for wine and to show us how to best get to Mt. Rushmore (our ultimate destination). We found great hiking and fishing nearby, without the crowds we found in Jackson.
The owners were not there when we first arrived, but they had told us to help ourselves to the hot tub next door. Wow!! What a spa...and what views from the warmth of the water. We would recommend this retreat to any of our friends or relatives and plan to stop here every time we are traveling east through the Tetons. It is a much better stay than anything we could have found in the Jackson area.
When we left Chuck's place, we took he and his wife's advice and took the route through Yellowstone and to Cody instead of through the southern part of Wyoming. The trip was fantastic and the views incredible. We would never had known to go that route without Chuck's help. These two are fantastic hosts and know what it takes to make travelers feel at home. Don't miss the opportunity to stay at their studio if you are traveling through the Teton/Yellowstone area. You won't regret meeting them and enjoying their hospitality.
This place is absolutely amazing!! If you are looking for some peace and quiet away from it all you should look no further. My wife, daughter and I had a wonderful time and experience. The cabin is beautiful and full of ammenities. The owners were truely wonderful and accomodating. They truely showed the hospitality you do not recieve at any regular old hotel. If you ride ATV's or horses, there is an abundance of opportunities to do so. We truely look foward to coming back next year, and look foward to visiting with our new freinds. Thanks again Chuck and Cheryl! Can't wait to come back again.
This is an amazing place to stay if there are only a few people. There isn't a single negative thing I could say about our vacation! For those of us with horses or 4-wheelers, there are trails to ride right from the property. The views are unimaginable and the owners are incredible. When my husband and I chose this cabin, we had never been to this area of the state. We will definitely be returning in the future! This area is so relaxing, quite, and filled with wildlife, beautiful flowers and trees...It's really indescribable without seeing it in person. Don't hesitate to make this your next vacation. It is truly worth every penny & you will make many irreplaceable memories!
Do not overlook this place if you like a really nice place to stay after you have a great day of being outdoors. This is a really great place to ride ATV's or horses. The stables are really nice as well. But after a big day of outdoor activities you'll really appreciate the very comfy king size bed with some of the nicest sheets I have ever slept on! Everything in this place is top of the line from the pots and pans to the dishes. I really felt at home.
I stayed 5 nights and when it was time for me to go I felt as tho I had been on a 2 week vacation.
