Charming, luxury hideaway overlooking a World Heritage site

Gorgeous is right! And private, spacious, fantastic! This house is absolutely wonderful! The pictures are nice, but the house is so much more. We just returned from staying a week, and it was heavenly. So spacious and open, with views beyond description from every room. Really-take a shower while gazing at the Caribbean Sea. The house was built years ago, and since then the flowers and trees seem to have grown the house into the side of the mountain. The stone walls of the house are about 18 inches thick, with a light white plastering on the inside which still shows the stone texture, the ceilings are high and made of wood, the floors are tile from Barbados.

The outside is brought in by opening the huge wooden doors to the terraces and voila! The ocean and the Pitons and the incredible flowers! The swimming pool is on its few steps down through bougainvilleas galore. More than half the pool area is open to the sea and Pitons view. One end has a covered area providing shade and comfy padded loungers. The flowers-and the humming birds!- just go on and on.

And then there's the food! Two wonderful women came in from about 9-8 daily, very non intrusive, keeping everything clean, beds made, towels re-stocked, etc, and cooking. Yes, cooking! We had most of our meals at the house and they were all delicious! We communicated before arriving about the food, and paid there for the supplies that were purchased for us. We could have shopped ourselves as well, but ended up not needing to. Everything was fresh and local, fabulous salads, soups, quiche, casseroles and fresh squeezed juices: orange, grapefruit, passion fruit!

Oh, and we had an incredible massage therapist to come to the house! The owner is on the property adjacent to the house- she is so gracious, friendly, and welcoming. She provided the initial tour of the house, and was available for information sharing, and never intrusive. She is also the talented artist responsible for many of the beautiful paintings throughout the house.

The house is located about ten minutes to town via a steep and challenging road- you do need four wheel drive. Also about ten minutes walk downhill from Anse Chastanet palm lined beach.

Eight of us from Ohio and New Mexico arrived January 19 for ten days. We were immediatly awed by the view of the Pitons and the sea directly in front of the Villa. The villa was beautiful and spacious. Large bedrooms and and good mattress. The swimming pool was large and kept very clean by our pool man, Emanuel. He was a pleasant man to be around and talk to. No one got a mosquito bite.
The staff was pleasant and Pamala and Felica made us delicious meals. They also kept the villa very clean. The weather was perfect every day. Can't say enough of how we enjoyed the stay. The owner Francine was very accomadating and answered all my questions before we got there.

I just returned from a week at Mango Point and I really loved it. As we were finalizing plans, the owner sent me a lot of information about the logistics of the first couple of days which helped get things off on the right foot. They arranged our ride from the airport as well as getting a rental car delivered the next day and made sure we had an opportunity to have provisions for the first couple of days so we could settle in before worrying about going grocery shopping.

The property was well maintained and the house staff is awesome. They cooked meals that rival the local restaurants and kept the house and grounds nice and tidy. Being in the caribbean with an open house, it's a challenge keeping out the critters, but there was nothing threatening. Be sure to feed the little Bull Finch who came to the breakfast and lunch table every day. And there's nothing like the sound of the frogs croaking when the sun went down and then being replaced by the sound of birds as the sun rises.

We spent a fair amount of time at the Anse Chastanet beach which is only about 5 minutes away. There is a very nice shallow reef there which made for some good snorkeling and there is a top quality PADI/SSI dive operation right there with 2 boats to take scuba divers to the nearby dive sites. We also went to the see the drive-through volcano and sulphur spring and bathed in the sulphorous mud. It cost about $11 each and was an interesting way to see something different.

I would definitely recommend Mango Point to others and hope to go back again some day. However, the only thing I'd like to warn people about is that they should make sure they TALK to the owner before sending money. We were victims of fraud due to (in my opinion) the negligence on the part of the website marketing the property. The security between the website and the home owner isn't great allowing my initial inquiry to be intercepted by a scammer and never made it to the home owner. Do not send any wire transfers to anyone without actually talking to her or otherwise knowing for a fact who you are sending the money to. I initially was instructed to wire money to a bank in London which sounded reasonable since this is a British Island but it was completely fake. Thankfully, the owner worked with us on the price so we didn't lose all of our payment. Don't make this mistake but DO rent the place and take in the beauty of the Grand and Petit Pitons from the comfort of the living room at Mango Point
