Villa Gaia Property #304492
My family and I are seasoned Caribbean travelers and have used Home Away many times for our vacation rentals. This was our only disappointing experience, so much so, that I felt compelled to write a review. I communicated several times with the owner via email prior to our renting her place. We asked specific questions regarding the house's amenities and arranged to have the property manager stock the fridge prior to our arrival. The directions we were given were incorrect and we were unable to contact the property manager or the owner for assistance in locating the villa. We finally arrived at the property after two hours of driving around in the dark. Honestly, it was very difficult to find and only because of the kindness of people in the Five Islands Village did we manage to find the villa Gaia. I would suggest that the property manager meet guests at the airport, or at the very least, the bus station near the house. Despite my sending the list of food items, the information was never forwarded to the property manager, so we arrived with two young children, late at night, and were forced to go out at night to buy food. Saturday night is a very busy night at the supermarket and we spent over an hour just trying to buy some dinner. We have traveled to many homes in the Caribbean and it is standard practice to provide beach towels, coolers and chairs. It is ridiculous to expect guests to pack these bulky items especially in light of the current baggage restrictions. Despite the amenities listing that towels are provided, they only provided bath towels...none for the pool and none for the beach. During our initial, frustrating few days, the owner refused to communicate directly with us and the property manager was unable to really assist us. The house itself is dated and the kitchen is need of renovation. The bedrooms and bathrooms were fine. The pool and surrounding areas are very nice, however it is very difficult to find the house and it is a bit of a drive to get to any of the beaches. We would all definitely return to Antigua, just not Villa Gaia.
Owner's Response: Very sorry for the review of the customer. Directions were given the same supplied to other customers in the last years ; customer had the phone number of the villa and housekeeper to contact in case of need. We are sorry for the misunderstanding with our housekeeper regarding the list of food items .The customer was at the villa 10 months ago, February 2012 , and in the meantime, the house was full upgraded with new tv Flat screen 42" in the living room , Flat screen TV in 3 of the 4 bedrooms ,WI-FI High speed Internet , New Washer , New Dryer, New Oven , New Fridge and New Microwave. All the house linens and bath towels are provided ; No beach chairs or coolers and the customer was aware of that. We invite the customer to come back to Villa Gaia to see changes made .
