The climate is pleasant here all year round and the famous oysters Marennes-Oléron thrive here. Royan has around 17000 residents and is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the Atlantic coast. It promises sun and pure fun bathing during the whole summer. Royan is the French city on the Atlantic coast which has maximum number of sunny days in a year. There are many wonderful cafés and restaurants as well as excellent sports facilities in the city and along the promenade. Royan is around 100 km away from Bordeaux, 60km from La Rochelle and 450 km from Paris. Since well over a hundred years it is known as the swimming and recreational resort of Paris society. It is also very much liked by guests from many nations since long, because the area has numerous miles of sandy beaches, which invite you for swimming or surfing with the mild climate influenced by the Atlantic in many months in a year. The worldwide famous wine growing areas of France begin very nearby and stretch along up to Bordeaux. Apart from that there are also wide-spread forests, which extend partially along the coastal area and provide opportunity for hiking or bike tours.
Also noteworthy is the Thalassotherapy centre in south west France, which is located here.
Royan is also famous for its gorgeous Casino.
The promenades on the beautiful yacht harbor and the colorfully lit beach promenades are enthralled by a spectacle of acrobats and artists.
The villa 'Vue Mer' was constructed in the early '60s by a very popular Paris architect and used as a recreation home. It is located in the residential area 'Le Parc', which is regarded as the most exclusive and most popular parts of the Royan city. It is situated directly on the largest and the most beautiful beach of Royan called 'La Grande Conche'. You can reach the city centre and the harbour with many restaurants and shops, the famous “Marché”and numerous cultural events easily within 10 minutes walk. The park also has a private market (3min walk), where fruit dealers, vegetable and meat vendors sell their products fresh every morning. There is also a grocery, bakery, kiosk, café, hairdresser, etc.
The building here consists partly of restored houses from the '20s with its unique style and somewhat modern villas, constructed in the '60s, all of them situated right behind the main beach of Royan, which is over 2km long.
The villa was built on an elevation facing the sea. Therefore there is an extensive view of the sea from anywhere on the front side of the villa.
Royan also provides numerous interesting destinations for day trips. So you can reach the cities Cognac and La Rochelle in an hour, the most famous wine village of the world, St. Emilion, in 2 hours. Or you can take a ferry, which takes off right behind the yacht harbour 15km far in to Le Verdon exploring the wine growing region 'Medoc'. You can also find kilometre long sandy beaches, on which you can take up very beautiful bike tours on the well laid bike trails, just like you do in Royan and its surrounding.
A visit for kids to the nearby zoo La Palmyre, the largest in France, or to the amusement park 'La Luna', which is also situated in La Palmyre, is certainly praiseworthy.
