Bill and I spend the rest of our time up north in North Stonington CT where we work and play with our family that now consists of three grandchildren. Boating and golfing are two of our favorite pastimes.

The moment we arrived on island, we fell in love with everything Montserrat has to offer. The island is safe, friendly with water that is safe to drink right out of the tap.
Barefoot Villa is located right between the mountains and the ocean which affords us a constant tropical breeze that blows right through the home most days and evenings.
The town of Olveston is located between the rainforest Woodlands and the arid lands Old Towne. This location affords us cooler temperatures than the arid lands and less mosquito problems one might find in the rain forest areas.
Our neighborhood is comprised of beautiful homes that are lived in year round and our neighbors are warm and inviting folks that look after one another.
A morning walk around our neighborhood is a great way to start or end your day!

If you need a holiday to relax from the hustle and bustle of daily life this is the place for you. From the moment we were met at the ferry port and taken to the villa our holiday was off to a great start. Barefoot Villa is a really comfortable place to stay it has all the amenities to give you a real home from home feel. A well equipped kitchen, towels, washing machine, dishwasher, herbs and spices. The pool and the balcony was just what we needed to relax and enjoy the Montserrat sunshine. The lemon trees in the garden supplied us with jugs of fresh lemonade. There was a guide book in the villa which provided phone numbers and descriptions, and directions of local restaurants, shops and attractions and a local phone book which was really helpful. The location of the villa is close to Salem which has a supermarket and a bakery and great restaurants within walking distance. The people of Montserrat made us feel so welcome. We went to the site that had been devastated by the volcano and we took a boat tour around the Island . The mountains the weather was wonderful ! What an adventure. We will return................
Barefoot Villa is a great place to escape the madness of life. From the moment we arrived, we were on island time, The ammenities that are offered made our stay very comfortable. It has all of the comforts of home and then some. We ate every meal out on the deck, and enjoyed the incredible ocean view, swam in the pool, and totally unplugged from life as we know it in the states. The beaches are close minus the crowds. Our dining out experiences were amazing, the locals are very welcoming. The local grocery stores have all of the essentials.Fresh fruit and vegetables were sold at outdoor markets along the road as well. We hooked up with a local hiking club and were able to explore parts of the island we never would have imagined. And as a bonus, the diving was magnificient.
I would recommend Barefoot Villa to anyone looking to get away, I can't wait to get back there and kick back once again.
We are self proclaimed "world travelers" and have been all over the world but have never found another place quite like this.
We arrived in Montserrat in July and the owners had arranged for us to be picked up by their property manager right at the airport and brought directly to Bare Foot Villa. No stress right from the get go. (You'll find it's almost impossible to be stressed at this place!)
We arrived at the Villa to find a large, sparkling pool with a view of the ocean lingering in the distance in our backyard. Next we were taken upstairs to the living room to find that 2 of the walls were actually window walls that could open all the way to create an open air room! The porch coming from the living room overlooks the pool and again the ocean! The kitchen was clean and we loved the wooden window that opens out to allow the chef to feel like they are out on the porch with those who are sitting out enjoying drink while dinner is being prepared. Bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Outside we found a huge mango tree that we were able to pick fresh mangos from each morning. This house was amazing and still gave you the feeling that you were in "real" tropical paradise, not a sterile, pretentious hotel.
When we finally tore ourselves away from own new place, we found the several beaches to be something out of a movie. We were literally the ONLY ones there almost each time we went. We were able to snorkel, kayak to the small islands, play bacci ball, have picnics and lay out in sun totally undisturbed.
There is a volcano observatory where you are able to check out the volcano on the island and see a view that will stay with you long after you leave. We also found some hikes through the woods that were something you can't miss. We found HUGE old trees with leaves almost 5ft long, banana and avocado trees, bright orange, pink and yellow trees with strange orchids growing on them, and plenty of exotic wild life.
Lastly, the owners helped us find the best bar on the island, The Green Monkey, and hooked us up with Troy, who took us on a wild boat ride and fishing trip where we caught 2 barracudas! He introduced us to some locals who cleaned the fish for us and we took them back to the villa and cooked them up! What an experience!
This place was like nothing I've ever experienced before and made for a tranquil but adventurous experience that we've been sharing with friends and family ever since!
