Located on the sunny south side of Kauai, convenient to island attractions, we offer a one bedroom cottage. The property is eight acres of trees and gardens, views are ocean and valley, and there is a waterfall within walking distance. We are a private spot off the beaten path yet a convenient location. Discounts for extended stays are generously extended.
Hiking at the Waimea Canyon is a short drive away; a lovely waterfall and pool is a few minutes' walk from us. We are just ten minutes from several beautiful island beaches.
The views are truly breathtaking, with a sweeping panoramic view from the ocean, down the Lawai Valley pastures, to majestic 3000-foot Mount Kahili. Ours is a private, quiet location where you can enjoy a peaceful day of doing nothing. Our cottage is ideal for a honeymoon.
We have included many thoughtful amenities for our guests as well. Gas grills are available for your use, along with coolers, beach towels, beach mats, and boogie boards.
We stayed six nights at Hale Kua and loved it! It's very private, but a short (15-20 minute) drive from Poipu and Koloa, so we found it very convenient. The view off of the lanai is wonderful, and the owners Cathy and Bill were delightful! We had a really nice time talking with them, and they have done a great job of making Hale Kua a comfortable getaway.
The cottage itself is very clean and feels new. The kitchen does not have a full oven/cook range, but there are three hotplates (one two-burner and one one-burner) and the microwave is the kind that also does convection oven cooking (we had one of these when we lived in Japan). There are many appliances (coffee maker, blender, electric kettle, etc.) and we also used the BBQ grill, which was very easy to use.
Our favorite things about our stay were:
the view from the lanai
the location (close to everything without being in the middle of everything)
the tangerine and grapefruit trees
I would happily stay here again and will recommend it to others. Another great VRBO find.
We rented this cottage at the very last minute and we appreciate the owners giving us an opportunity to stay at that place. The cottage is very clean, but really small. I would say it's perfect for a couple, but we have a young child and we did not feel it was much space for all of us. The kitchen does not have a stove, but it has a small electrical unit, so it's still possible to cook. My biggest disappointment was about not having a dishwasher while we stayed there. There was also a ton of ants, so the only way to keep food safe is to put it in the refrigerator. The lanai is really small, so we could not even eat outside, but again there were three of us, so it may work for a couple. The nice thing about the cottage is the owners are extremely helpful and nice. We really enjoyed meeting them. The cottage is secluded, so you will not see many people around. At the same time, the owners are very close and always available if you need anything. The location is very good and it's very convenient to have one of the best Kauai beaches nearby. Overall, I expected the cottage to be better, but for the price we paid, it worked okay.
My family and I were looking for a private getaway before heading up north for a business trip. We wanted to experience more of the local living instead of the usual tourist scene. We found the perfect spot at Hale Kua. It seemed as though it was extremely secluded, when in fact it was only 15 min or so from Poipu. The cottage was nestled in a hillside with breathtaking pastoral views all around. We felt like we were in a hidden hideaway. We love animals and nature and had numerous parrot, gekko, wild pigs (on the road - not on the property and they were cute too!) and rooster sightings. The roosters love to make their presence known (crowing). They didn't bother us at all and added to the whole ambiance! The owners, Bill and Cathy were extremely welcoming and we could have talked to them forever! They thoughtfully left ear plugs for the rooster noise but they were not needed. In fact, they thought of everything one could need. The cottage was well stocked with plenty of linens, dishes, and even books and games. We didn't lack a thing and were sad to leave. We will definitely return one day!! Hale Kua is one of those rare little jewels you shouldn't miss!
I arrived at the cottage a few days before Christmas and was welcomed very warmly by the owners. The cottage was secluded from the main house and had all the amenities my girlfriend and I could ask for. We were close enough to the beach for morning walks and yet could still escape to our cottage away from the tourist crowds.
We stayed for about a week and a half, which was perfect for exploring the island and all its exotic attractions, and numerous hikes! We had dinner in most nights, and when we got an itch we checked out some of the island restaurants that were near (the cottage's central location was perfect in proximity to different island neighborhoods).
We will definitely return to Hale Kua Cottages once we can get the time off work.
My husband and myself visited the island for the first time and have always chosen to have something other than the big resorts as a choice. When we found this little gem - we knew it would be perfect for us and it was! The seclusion of the property and privacy is exactly what we were looking for - beautiful settting and certainly very gracious hosts. the cottage is clean, beautiful and totally functional. We had dinners in and sleeps in - well if you can overlook the roosters! I found them charming my husband - well he wanted chicken every night! They are like our gophers here at home and can be pesty and certainly loud and annoying - again it's all in how you perceive the creatures - I loved it - he didn't. Because the property is in a private area - the location can be tricky to find - the owners provided clear maps for sure - but I would recommend that you try and arrive on the island during daylight hours in order to find this lovely spot without frustration. Absolutely loved it and a great price for what you get - again - clean - private - functional - economic and simply beautiful!!! Thanks you so much for giving us this as a choice for our first visit - we'll be back!
Stayed at the Hale Kua for four nights and chose the place because of its seclusion, yet central location to explore the South and West of the island and the Waimea Canyon / Koke'e State Park.
We stayed in their Banana Patch Suite and found it to be spacious, well equipped, clean and surrounded by lush vegetation. Owners Cathy and Bill are very accommodating and we would not hesitate to stay there again or recommend it to our friends (unless you need to stay right by the ocean where all the condo's and hotels are... the Hale Kua is only a 15 minute drive from Poipu, and you can readily access the beaches from here, if that's your intention). Hale Kua is excellent value for your money, which is somewhat hard to find on the islands.
There is a good restaurant in Kalaheo (Kalaheo Cafe) which opens early, if you want to head for the canyon and the mountains (the viewpoints overlooking the Napali coast usually are in the clouds by 9:30 am and it is about an hours drive to get there, so make sure you leave early).
The property is about 45 minutes from Lihue airport (depending on traffic and time of day), but it is a little hard to find, so try to get there before dark and have proper driving instructions when looking for it.
