Overview

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday home in Flagstaff - The Cedar House

4 Bedrooms + Loft - 2 Baths - (Sleeps 14)

Set in 5 acres of tall timber, this Park's home offers rustic elegance, comfort and absolute tranquility. A visitor would never know they were only minutes away from Flagstaff, restaurants and city activities. Choose from the night-life of Flagstaff or the adventures of the Grand Canyon (that is only a 55 minute drive!) , mountain biking, skiing or any number of outdoor activities within minutes of this beautiful retreat. This 2500 square foot home features a master suite, 4 bedrooms, a loft and 2 bathrooms. A supplemental wood burning stove adds that cozy touch while a family, or group of friends are nestled in for a late night home movie in this beautifully appointed Casa. The loft is great for kids and the covered porch, just off the living room, is great for BBQ's, boisterous conversations, relaxing evenings....Or just watching the wildlife. You are in the woods! The property backs up against 500 acres of Coconino National forest, so the only unexpected guests will be the deer, elk and eagle.

Snow play park off of Route 66 : 5 minutes away is a state park for kids to play in the snow, they have small runs for sledding and sliding etc. Anything you can think of to do in the snow. Great time for the family. Tubing year round at Elk Ridge Ski area.

Tubing in Williams, AZ : 12 minutes away is Williams, AZ 'Gateway to the Grand Canyon' and it has a small ski slope but half of the ski slope is used for tubing (year round) and it is a blast.

Why Malcolm Giles chose Flagstaff

Wanted time away from the busy 'Valley of the Sun' time to relax and rejuvenate one soul and time to enjoy nature. Time to live in the now and be present to myself. The fun part now is I can share these moments with our wonderful guest.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We came to vacation and get out of the valley. Thank you for sharing your lovely home. We enjoyed rain storms, fresh air and relaxed. We didn't see any animals but it was nice stop between the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff and Williams. Which we were able to visit all due to the wonderful location of the cabin. Very peaceful, love the location, cabin had everything you could need. Plenty of water, lines, dishes and utensils, etc. Thank you for letting us use the garage to put ours in to keep animals away. We had a great time and really enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful property for a weekend getaway or an extended stay. There were only 5 of us so we had tons of space to roam around, but it's well equipped for large groups. The room above the garage is awesome - a great place for kids and adults to go to do their own thing. The home was well stocked with essentials, very clean and we felt very comfortable our entire stay. It's very secluded and the weather was absolutely gorgeous during the day and chilly enough at night to enjoy the fireplace. We didn't leave the property during our stay, but it's close enough to shopping, restaurants and activities, and the brochures provided with nearby activities was much appreciated. It gave us great ideas for a future stay. Malcolm and his staff were very accommodating with the arrangements and we appreciated the whole experience.

This is an overall great location for vacationing in the Flagstaff area. Owner and his team are very helpful with any needs related to staying in the area. Shopping and attractions are very accessible. Home is very clean and laid out very nice. Thank you. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone I know traveling to the area.

Great cabin but a few flaws

  • 5 of 5

Manager was great to do business with. Everything was laid out in advance and all correspondence via email was done quickly. Payment was done quickly and the security deposit refund was given quickly.

The cabin itself was in a great location. Secluded, but close enough to Williams (Safeway) and Flagstaff (restaurants) for visits to town. We even visited the Grand Canyon as a day trip. The fireplace warmed the entire cabin well and even got hot when too much wood was put in the stove.

The only two things I could complain about is the wifi and the fourth room. There is a cap of 1GB of data on the wifi, then there is an extra charge (around $35). I understand that having internet connection in a secluded area is difficult and may be expensive, but a 1GB cap? I would have rather not advertise the use of wifi instead of the cap. Then there was the fourth room. The fourth room was not connected to the rest of the house. You have to either go outside or go through the garage (ladder) to access it. No heater other than the small portable heater in the room. We had to wear our ski clothes to sleep. Eventually we ended up sleeping in the living room on the floor because the fourth room was too cold.

Other than the two issues above, everything else was perfect! We definitely recommend this place.

Owner's Response: Thank You For the Informative Review! Our Property Manager has looked into the heat for that upstairs room. There was a vent that was being blocked by the couch. It has since been moved. We have also purchased a larger heating unit to accommodate that space. Due to the property being in a rural area, the WiFi Data is limited to 10 gigs per month. The 1 gig per tenant is just a suggestion moving forward. We just ask that tenants take the limit into consideration moving forward. As always, we appreciate all comments and concerns. We want to provide a pleasurable experience for all at our lovely home away from home!

great stay

  • 5 of 5

was only here for 3 nights, but was a great stay. everything is well stocked and i can't think of a thing we needed that wasn't already there. i did assume the house had ac, and it doesn't, but it actually wasn't needed. i live in louisiana and our summer days are near 100 degrees with 100% humidity, so we run the ac all the time to control the indoor humidity. the days are hot, but with the elevation and lack of humidity the nights were very comfortable, with nights in the mid 50s (in july, crazy). location was great. really there was nothing to complain about with this house.

Lovely, secluded house

  • 5 of 5

We recently rented this lovely, secluded house in Williams for a family vacation to the Grand Canyon and Sedona. The house couldn’t have been more perfect for us. Though it is nestled away in a quiet, serene pine forest, it is only minutes from Historic Route 66 (40) and Route 64 to the Grand Canyon. The four bedrooms and loft were very comfortable, and the two full bathrooms were spacious and clean. My kids loved sleeping in the loft, accessed by a spiral staircase, and complete with an outside balcony from which to view the wildlife. The huge bedroom over the garage is really like a separate apartment with a king bed, sofas, tables, microwave, TV, and small fridg. Best of all, it has a huge picture window that looks out over the tall, stately pines. The wood burning stove in the living room would be perfect for a chilly evening, and the well-stocked kitchen provided plenty of good meals. A laundry room with a full sized washer and dryer were well appreciated after several days of hiking in the Canyon. The oversized two car garage provides ample room for vehicles and storage, and there is more parking outside. My kids enjoyed making s’mores in the outdoor fire pit (wood provided), while the adults enjoyed sitting on the covered patio nearby. The surrounding woodland presented the kids an opportunity for a fun exploration. This home offers wireless internet, along with all the little amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, soaps, and paper products to get you started. Malcolm (owner) and Cathy were responsive and accommodating. I whole-heartedly recommend this charming home to anyone looking for a tranquil, relaxing home base from which to strike out to see the beauty of Northern Arizona. We would happily return.

Notes:
We have added two new decks for your viewing pleasure, high up in the trees. Decks are on the second floor and you sit in the middle of ponderosa pines. Breathtaking. There is plenty of space to park an RV, boat or any tow-alongs. The spacious 2 car garage is available to all guests wishing to put vehicles in for the night. And of course....The full kitchen is equipped with everything a vacationer would need. The great room is large enough for some 'private space' and a fantastic gathering area to socialize and interact with family and friends.
