MODERN MOUNTAIN ESCAPE - MOUNTAIN VIEWS, WOOD FLOORS, AND MUCH MORE!!!

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Stowe

3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 6

Only minutes from downtown and the Mountain. Your three bedroom home away from home has all the things you are looking for in a getaway escape. Gorgeous mountain and valley views including a panoramic view of Stowe village, three decks, wood floors, two full bathrooms, and space for the kids and the adults to gather in the well proportioned living room complete with a Vermont fireplace. There is great sledding right out your back door. This nonsmoking, pet friendly house is available today. Please call or email. We accept credit cards and are able to accommodate last minute plans.

Completely refinished: The house has been extensively refinished over the past five years with solid maple flooring in all the bedrooms, brand new Anderson windows designed to maximize the morning light and spectacular mountain and valley views, and complete remodels of both bathrooms including custom built cedar vanities with marble and granite counters. Also added; enhanced new lighting, state of the art laundry facilities, flat screen LCD television, and even a breakfast bar with kitchen pass through and modern leather bar stools. A Weber propane grill sits just outside the kitchen on the deck.

Caretaker: The house includes a small Caretaker's apartment. Our basement apartment has a separate entrance. It is occupied by a single long term tenant who ensures that the house is always safe and secure. Our caretaker/tenant has been with us for years, he is a member of the local community, manages a local store, and runs a day camp for kids. He ensures that the walkways are shoveled during the Winter months, making first tracks easy to get to! Our guests often do not even know our caretaker is in residence, unless they see him shoveling out the front door after a big storm!

There were six in our group; me, my husband, two daughters (ages 5 and 10), and my parents. We have used VRBO in the past to stay nationally and internationally and this was our best experience of all. We were all extremely comfortable (not crowded) and we all agreed that the house was as represented by the owner. There were no disappointments. The girls loved the terrific sledding hill, and spent hours exhausting themselves outside before dinner. The beds were comfortable and the house was a warm and cozy spot to return to after a day of winter activities. The house was well maintained and well stocked with linens, games, and movies. The resident of the ground floor apartment was a real benefit, we were glad to have a local right there. He was polite, friendly, and he diligently shoveled the snow, which was plentiful the week we stayed there. Although the roads to Joshua’s place are well plowed and maintained (as is the driveway), for winter travel I would recommend an all-wheel-drive or at least a car with snow tires. We traded in our minivan rental for an SUV and found it much better for navigating local areas. The blinds on all the windows provide the option of privacy or open them up for excellent views. The house was safe, clean, and an ideal location for exploring and then retreating for a quiet respite. The house is near a full service grocery and some very good restaurants. We loved the Dutch Pancake at the Grey Fox inn for breakfast and I swear I’ve been dreaming about the food at the Blue Stone in Waterbury since we left. You should definitely check out Nebraska Knoll Sugar farm, a charming spot near the house. Of course, the house is close to great skiing, snowboarding, cross country, and snowshoeing and central to tourist spots like Ben and Jerry's. Even though the house is near all these great things, you still get a secluded and quaint old Vermont mountain experience. We also went up to the Trapp Lodge one afternoon for lunch, if you go try the "Vermonte Cristo" sandwich and the bratwurst, which was phenomenal. Overall we had an excellent experience; Joshua is a reliable and fair host. No funny business or weird changes or surprises. Thanks to you and your family Joshua for your hospitality.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay in Vermont, and this house was definitely a big contributor to that. It's close to all the awesome stuff Stowe has to offer. A quiet and clean refuge with a comfortable king size bed to sleep in after a long day of hiking and sightseeing. We couldn't ask for more! The price was completely affordable, too. A big thanks to Joshua and his family!

We were visiting from the UK and stayed in the house for a week having previously spent some time in Boston.

After the bustle of the city we were looking for some peace and quiet and a place to relax in the evening after exploring during the day. This house was perfect for our needs and far exceeded our expectations given the price paid. We were lucky enough to be there for the peak of the spectacular fall foliage displays and the view from the deck was simply breathtaking (the pictures on here really don't do it justice!). The rooms were all lovely and well equipped and we were sad to leave when it was time to check out.

The owner was extremely helpful and prompt at responding to our questions and we barely noticed the downstairs tennant (on the one occasion we briefly met he was very friendly). We managed to find the house easily using the owner's instructions.

As we knew very little about the town before we arrived we were particularly pleased with how convenient Stowe is for exploring the wider area with easy access to lots of beautiful mountain scenery and a relatively short drive to both Burlington and Montpellier which we enjoyed visiting.

In short, this rental comes highly recommended!

Highly recommended. We arrived at the house having followed the owners directions (missed the drive as we were coming from the opposite direction!) but found it easily enough. The house is on a slope but once we got the cases up the stairs & inside that was not an issue. Big parking space outside and the house is set well back from the (not busy) road. Views from the house are lovely and the tree surrounded grounds give a feeling of privacy. The large kitchen offers plenty of space and is well equipped. This leads to the large open lounge/diner. Large TV, DVD player (loads of DVD's too) & Game cube. Comfy chairs provide seating for 4 (5 if you squeeze 4 on the large 3 seater sofa) or if you use the large foot stool. Didn't use the impressive fireplace but it looks good. . Door from lounge leads to Main bedroom, large windows provide light airy feel, plus a door to outside. Large comfy bed and plenty of wardrobe space too. Downstairs bathroom with shower met all our needs. Spiral stairs from lounge lead to two 1st floor bedrooms with a shared shower room. Spiral stairs are narrow but manageable. Upstairs bedrooms offer double and twin beds. Only issue with these rooms was trying to open the fanlight windows set high on the wall as reaching them is very difficult (even for a 6' tall person) Upstairs shower is not the most powerful but works OK. House was clean and tidy and we felt at home there. Good communication with owner prior to arrival. Location is a few minutes easy drive from Stowe village and also close to Sterling falls. We used AJ's Bike rental in Stowe, took recreational path for a pleasant flat 11 mile ride by the river. (print voucher from Internet to save on rental costs) . Lunch at the Malt Shop Stowe is great, a 50's style diner with great milkshakes & a fantastic pulled pork sandwich. Visited 3 waterfalls - 3rd Sterling Gorge short drive (some off road) and a downhill hike, easy to get into the water to paddle or dip. 2nd Bingham Falls , Steep path the base of falls, good places for swimming or paddling. 1st Moss Glen falls short drive from House easy flat walk to base of falls good swimming, paddling and if you feel adventurous you can walk under the waterfall.
Toll road up to Mt Mansfield (steep but driveable) and then hiked to the peak (uneven ground/rocks) Great views.
Waterbury Reservoir great paddle boarding/canoeing. Recommend Ben & Jerry's, Cider Mill and Cabot Annex store.

Great Month-Long Getaway

  • 5 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 22-Jul-2013

We rented this house for a month to explore the Stowe area and get away from the heat of the Washington, DC area. The house was clean and quiet, with lots of windows providing light and ventilation. We slept with the windows open every night, and it was very comfortable -- even cool on some nights. Only on one or two afternoons was the absence of air conditioning noticeable.

The house layout is well conceived, with a large, open living/dining area and reasonable sized bedrooms. There is even a gas fireplace, but during our July stay it wasn't used. The main deck (it's more like a balcony) overlooks the mountains, which are beautiful. During the Stowe hot-air balloon festival we could see some of the balloons floating in the distance -- and one of them landed just down the road, maybe a mile away!

The laundry facilities are truly space-age, and worked very well. (Only problem is my wife may want to upgrade to that equipment!) The kitchen has the usual complement of full-size appliances, but counter space for food prep is somewhat limited. The house has an extensive DVD and games collection, which we used several times. The Internet connection worked well, as did the gas grill on the side deck.

The owner, Joshua, was exceptionally responsive and accommodating. We needed an appliance repaired during our stay, and he took action immediately. We met the downstairs tenant once or twice, and he was very nice. But he was completely unobtrusive, and you would never know he was there (unless your dogs give a woof when he drives in, as ours did). We actually liked the idea that he was there.

Town was very convenient, as was the local grocery store (both within 5 to 10 minutes away). There are lots of good restaurants, terrific hiking and biking, and outdoorsy things to do. Try the Sterling Forest trails, which are nearby, and Foster's swimming hole (if you can find it!) And the Foxfire restaurant, two miles down Stagecoach Road, is great.

Considering value, we give this house 5 stars.
Owner's Response: I am very glad that you enjoyed your stay! I greatly appreciate your feedback both during your stay and in your post stay review. Please keep in mind that I always guarantee our returning guests the best seasonal pricing by discounting our rates when you book a subsequent stay. This is my way of saying thank you to our guests that return again and again. The house is priced to represent the best possible value, combination of amenities and pricing, and I appreciate your recognition.
