Quaint House with a Great View
We booked the place with the plans of making a lot of day trips to different areas for different things, primarily winery and brewery visits. The house itself was nice, well set up to accommodate 6 people very comfortably. Nice washer and dryer to use for personal use, good size fridge/freezer, propane grill, gas fire place, all were used and appreciated.
As for the location, it was close enough to Stowe to be convenient drive, but the drive to the interstate was 20 minutes, which we didn't realize (our bad). But overall it was a nice location.
The only disappointing part was finding out after booking the place that there was a tenant right below us, not in a separate building as envisioned. Thankfully we brought our dog which is a pretty good guard dog, who would alert us when their creepy vehicle would arrive or leave, so that helped keep our minds at ease a little bit more. We could hear them talking/watching television, etc, through the floor. Without this, it would have been a 5 star rating.
Owner's Response: We always appreciate thoughtful feedback, thank you, and strive to provide clear and concise information on the house and the local area to all our guests. To this end, please find below some additional information.
The house is four miles from the center of Stowe village (Main Street - downtown) and twelve miles from the Stowe Mountain lifts. The house is thirteen miles from exit ten off of Interstate 89.
Here is the information on the tenant which is copied directly from our listing:
"Caretaker: The house includes a small Caretaker's apartment. Our basement apartment has a separate entrance. It is occupied by a single long term tenant who ensures that the house is always safe and secure. Our caretaker/tenant has been with us for years, he is a member of the local community, manages a local store, and runs a day camp for kids. He ensures that the walkways are shoveled during the Winter months, making first tracks easy to get to! Our guests often do not even know our caretaker is in residence, unless they see him shoveling out the front door after a big storm!"
Our tenant/caretaker has two vehicles, a Subaru wagon (the ubiquitous Vermont vehicle) and a white passenger van (used mostly in the warmer months for camp transportation).
During the years that we lived in the house we hardly ever noticed our tenant (it could be that having three children in the house kept us otherwise engaged). The ceiling in the apartment is insulated for sound. In addition, newer windows and sliding glass deck doors assist in isolating occupants, as desired.
Our property is priced to reflect the views, land, location, apartment, and amenities provided. As such you will find that it is more expensive than the smallest condo options but much less than other three bedroom two bath homes on five plus acres with stunning mountain views. Please let us know if you find a property that you believe is a better value in the area as we strive to provide the most pleasantly competitive vacation housing option available.
