About this property

In the Heart of Maine, Nestled in Camden Village

Camden has recently been voted one of the 20 most beautiful towns in America! Please read the entire description before you book your stay. This is our home. We have worked with VRBO for many years and continue to carefully fulfill their requirements for your comfort. When you write a review, please remember to tell your readers about Camden, give details about the many shops and restaurants as well as beaches, hikes and walks. There is so much to see and do here, and so many beautiful towns to visit, Belfast, Rockport, Rockland, Warren, and Thomaston to name a few. Give them your creative best as this is a rare part of the world and you are defined by your gracious writing style which will be read by many home owners.

Our village home is a stone's throw from Penobscot Bay. Everything is within walking distance. It is a perfect retreat for one or two couples. In this way, each couple has a whole floor of privacy and can spread out, read, watch TV, or just enjoy the view from the third-floor sitting room. There are stairs. It is a three-story house. If you are using a cane or any other device, it may be too much for you. There is no downstairs bedroom. Be sure to read all descriptions. You have everything you need to make you comfortable but it is not a hotel. It is a private home.

Pour your coffee in the morning and wander down to see the tall ships sail away and enjoy scenes of active harbor life. Then, enjoy our famous library or have a walk down Main Street to enjoy small local shops and cafes that are a part of the fabric of the town. If you are a walker, go straight down Chestnut St. and you will end up at Aldermere Farm and Rockport Harbor, or hike up to Mt. Beatty which is straight up the street behind us. Life in Camden is, truly, where the mountains meet the sea. All is within a few minute's walk.

The main floor has a fully stocked kitchen, a dining room with a fireplace, and a cozy living room, with TV access.

On the second floor, there is a large bedroom, with a queen size bed and a bathroom with shower, adjacent. There is a hanging closet and one large cabinet.

The third floor is a light, airy space with a queen size bed, a large wet room shower/bathroom and a lovely sitting room with a bay window overlooking Mt. Beatty. There is a cabinet for your clothes. The third floor is completely private. It is almost its own apartment.

Outside the kitchen door is a private patio with a charcoal barbecue and a table so that you can spend time relaxing in the fresh air while enjoying the sounds of birds and cool breezes that waft through the passage. The two rockers on the porch allow for a tea time, or a space for listening to music or reading a book.

This village life of Camden is only moments from our side porch. The charm of the house is its close proximity to everything and yet, has a peaceful ambiance and privacy that are not easy to find. (We would recommend the Deli for breakfast, and the Waterfront, Natalie's, the rooftop bar at the Bay View Hotel, 40 Paper, Fresh, Barron's Distillery for dinner or in Rockport, Nina June's, and 18 Oyster.

Walk to Laite Beach, be a part of a friendly neighborhood, or walk to a great grocery store and live for days without getting in the car. PS. Don't miss the Stop and Go if you like beer. The owner is one the most respected beer connoisseurs in the state of Maine!

Camden is a beautiful village. Kindly, remember that summer is a busy season and we are in the center of it. You may hear some cars, children laughing, and the general presence of life in a small town.

Dave and I live in a small apartment on the property, should you need anything, we are here to help you. Our goal is that you have a lovely holiday.

Every season is magical: the long evenings of summer are glorious, incomparable autumn colors, snow fall for the holidays, and the flowers of spring. Our home in Camden has been a retreat for our family for many years and we would love to share it.

The house is professionally cleaned with eco-friendly products.

We ask that you honor check in and check out times so that we can do our best for you. You may check in at 3PM and check out is at 10AM.

as described by one of our guests...
My family and I stayed in this home for two weeks this past summer, and it is the most ideal house in the most perfect location. We adored it! We have traveled extensively in the US and throughout Europe, but this is at the top of the list of where we want to return. The house is utterly charming--so comfortable, fully renovated, completely equipped kitchen, the ideal place to come "home" to each and every day. It is perfectly situated at the edge of town--we started each morning with a stroll past the harbor to the local bakery, returning to the house to dine al fresco on the side terrace. Ah, I wish I were there now! The third floor of this home is a special treat--a tree house of an attic garret, full of light, the perfect place to read a book or gaze at the stars through the skylights. Be sure to enjoy hot chocolate in front of the fire in the living room on a cold morning, a glass of wine in the rocking chairs on the porch, and interesting conversation around the table in the fascinating dining room. The town itself is a dream--gorgeous white wooden houses, a perfect Main Street stretched along a harbor filled with wooden schooners, fun shops, delicious dining, a terrific library, overflowing window boxes...just walking through town is a treat in itself, and this house is truly in the ideal spot. Everything is within walking distance! The locals are so friendly--the people at the corner grocery store knew us by the end of our stay, and when my daughter needed ginger for the cookies she was baking, she just traipsed down to her favorite bakery in town and they happily gave her some!! Camden truly is what you picture when you think "idyllic New England town." And there's so much to do nearby--hiking, boating, swimming in the lake, eating lobsters at a lobster pound right on the water, canoeing and kayaking, beautiful gardens, interesting art galleries...I truly cannot say enough. Camden--and this house--have become our new favorites!!!! You can't go wrong, and will truly feel lucky to have stayed here.

Beautiful house, great location
We spent 2 wonderful weeks in this beautiful and interesting home. We visited many places such as Portland, Belfast, Monhegan Island via ferry, Arcadia National Park to name a few. We enjoyed days at the local beaches and the lake just up the road. We found Camden to be a bustling place with so many great restaurants....we didn’t find a single bad one. The Scottish pub ‘The Drouthy Bear’ was a favourite for great food and atmosphere. Lastly we ‘climbed’ the path up to mount Battie.. not an easy feat but worth it once we reached the top. A great holiday in all. Thanks to the lovely, charming owners Dave and Mary.

Great location
Camden is a favorite destination for us - and as we had rented this property years ago - knew the proximity to town was terrific. We enjoyed being close to the harbor - however the property needs maintenance and to be professionally cleaned on a much more regular basis to provide the best vacation experience.

Beautiful house and amazing location!
We enjoyed our stay immensely! The house was comfortable and you could feel the history. The location was amazing. Easy walk into town that help avoid any traffic or parking issues. Mary and Dave were awesome. Dave stopped by to quickly resolve a quick issue and enjoyed talking to him about the history of the house and the amazing things to do around Maine. A couple things I always like to know. 1. The beds are comfortable but on the firmer side 2. The bedrooms do get lots of light in the morning especially the room on the 3rd floor. We did not mind but I know people who like it dark! Highly recommend this place. The house is great, location it perfect (central too so many things and not as busy as a town as others. Not as touristy feeling either which we really liked), great restaurants and the hosts were so helpful!

Dreamy
We are so appreciative that Mary & Dave allowed us to stay in their lovely home. It is filled with art objects from their overseas travels. The location was beyond; it’s just minutes to all the restaurants, shops, the harbor, etc. Mary & Dave went above and beyond in every way. This was my first time in Camden and one of the most relaxing vacations ever. While we loved their home, if you are a minimalist please note that there are a lot of objects, furnishings, and art and you might not love that, but if Maximalism doesn’t bother you, this is an absolute gem and the perfect place to stay in Camden.

Dave and I are retired teachers.

We feel so lucky to be able to offer our home to you. For us, there is no place in all the world, like Camden. The village life, the sea, and the mountains offer a beautiful backdrop to The Screen Door Music Festival in August and the CIFF documentary film festival. in September The area never fails to enchant our visitors.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with Camden on sight. It has everything we have ever wanted and more: the Owl and Turtle Book Store, Page Art Gallery, Zoot's for coffee, Marriner's or The Deli for breakfast. There are wonderful restaurants, great sailing, unique shopping, glorious hiking in the daily routine, long walks on country lanes, canoeing, kayaking and it is all a walk from our front door. Our home is our haven. When you stay with us, it is more than a holiday rental. Our home is filled with Dave's water colors and oils, antiques we have collected in Europe and Asia. Though it is only 2300 sq feet, there are private places to get comfortable for a read or a chat. Here is a our most recent review from our guests: Immerse yourself in art and literature while enjoying the best Maine has to offer. Day trips to Rockport, Belfast, Bar Harbor for shopping, antiquing, and ,of course, lobster! Enjoy the forest and the ocean at Acadia National Park where you can hike or just soak in the sun and waves. Don't forget the pop-overs at Jordon Pond Lodge. Be sure to stop and see the views from the Penobscot Bridge tower. Weather keeping you inside...no worries. This wonderful house is full of artwork (most by the owner!) to ponder and books in every nook and corner. Every need is covered and the rooms are spectacular. We stayed in the "attic" room with stained glass windows above the bed and the whole bathroom is a shower! Our brother and sister in law thoroughly enjoyed the huge master bedroom with big, soaking tub. We ate in Bar Harbor, Lincolnville, and Camden and every meal was excellent with great service. The home is a very short walk from downtown Camden so you are just minutes from shopping and dining. We also got to enjoy a cruise on the schooner "Appledore"...a great adventure. Mary and Dave are great hosts and answered all our questions right away. We highly recommend this home for your get away, especially for adults or families with older kids.

What makes this property unique

We are within walking distance of all that Camden offers. We bought our home in 1990 and for the last 31 years have lovingly restored the interior while keeping the charm and grace of a Victorian. Dave and I lived all over the world and have furnished our home with antiques from Vienna and China. The house is our sanctuary with three distinct living areas on three floors.

The public space on the first floor provides a large, gourmet kitchen with room for our family and friends to gather, visit, and cook all at one time. My husband has hand-painted a mural in the dining room that creates a sense of peace and calm. The transition from our cozy living room features an archway framed with 18th Chinese panels reminds us of wonderful travel in Taiwan and China.

The living room is intimate and highlighted by stained glass windows and a cozy gas fireplace surrounded by bookcases. The second floor is a personal space with one large bedroom and one beautifully remodeled bathroom.

The second floor features a large bedroom with an adjacent shower bathroom.

The third floor is an open suite with a sitting room, bedroom, and bathroom. The best views are from this sitting room! This is completely private, set off from the rest of the house.

Our home is perfect for two couples who love to travel together. There is plenty of room to cook, relax, read, and visit and...retreat. We have traveled all over the world and there is no place like Camden. Come and see us and let us share our home with you!
