2 PRIVATE COUNTRY COTTAGES, PANORAMIC VIEWS TO ATLANTIC-NEAR TO BEACH

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Vejer de la Frontera - Finca Higueron, La Muela

A self-catering holiday home, peaceful, private pool in the country

Finca Higueron is not a dream, it's reality. It's the perfect location to enjoy all the pleasures of a beach holiday, along with private, relaxing accommodation in quiet open countryside that has wonderful views. Just a ten minute drive from to the golden beaches of El Palmar and Conil, the two cottages are in the centre of this small cortijo; to the east there is an orchard with citrus trees, figs, olives and almonds; to the south shrubs break up the views to Africa. To the west is a breathtaking view to the Atlantic, 6km away and a garden of trees and vegetables; north is the main house and the guest’s private entrance and car part. Each cottage has a private half shaded patio, with garden furniture, BBQ and mini pool with integral seating. Separating them is a path that wanders through a large concealed tropical garden. The Finca provides easy access to many beaches and is central to local villages and towns. The countryside is perfect for walking, cycling, horse riding and bird watching. Check our own web site below for more information

As well as free fresh in season organic vegetables and fruit we have free range chicken that provide us and our guests with lovely brown eggs.

Once you arrive, you will be welcomed by the owners and we will accompany you to your clean and tidy cottage that is surrounded by well-maintained gardens. During your stay, we are available to provide help, assistance and valuable information, if required.

The large garden area is quiet and surrounded by common land that can be explored.

Finca Higueron has mountain bikes and various sized head protectors available for our guests. There are many cross-country routes both near, far, easy and challenging, with routes planned and maps or way-points available. Also, on route recommend refreshment stops. If you would prefer we can arrange for hire of road bikes at a discounted rate, with our supplier having in excess of 50 bikes available

Birdwatchers - If you are visiting the area for the first time, take advantage of the knowledge we have acquired from previous visitors, over the last 9 years. We know many of the well publicised areas to visit, but we also know a few gems that are not in the books The finca is on the flight path of many birds that migrate from southern Spain to Africa. Watching the Storks and Bee Eaters flying over is wonderful, but the Eagles, Hawks and Vultures that glide, hover and swoop overhead on a regular basis are nothing less than spectacular. In the unspoilt common land adjacent to the finca, there is a large variety of bird-life all year round.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Comments from Owner Guestbook

We had a fantastic time at Finca Higueron. It normally takes me at least a week to wind down, but here I was relaxed instantly. The welcome is warm, the accommodation spotless and fully appointed. The surrounding area is unspoilt and ripe for exploration. Beaches and local restaurants are truly excellent You never tire of the views from Finca Higueron and watching the sunset whilst sipping a glass of wine is one of life's real pleasure
'Dave and Jo'
We wish to thank you for helping to make our holiday most pleasurable. Not only was the cottage the best self catering accommodation we have ever experienced, the whole package you offer is 2nd to none.
The 'personal touch' made our anniversary unforgettable. The afternoon at Montenmedio and the evening at Vento Rufino were highlights, but just being at Finca Higueron 'did it for us!'
'Alan and Diane'
We enjoyed the sandy, virtually empty beaches that are within easy reach. We wish we could have stayed longer

un sogno!

  • 5 out of 5

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Stefano. It was great to meet you both and we enjoyed your company and talking to you about your home and work in Italy. We work hard to ensure that the cottages are clean and everything is in full working order when our guests arrive and we are pleased that you enjoyed the cottage, the finca and our fee fresh vegetables. We hope that you will look back to your stay with us, for many years.
Once again - thanks you for visiting our little piece of paradise.

6 months on; still reminiscing about FincaHigueron

  • 5 out of 5
We spent ten beautiful days at Finca Higueron in July 2013. On our first night we were greeted with a welcome hamper which included milk, ham, cheese, beer, cava and olives which we enjoyed overlooking a sunset on the Atlantic, the lights of Tangiers visible on the horizon.

Our hosts Tad and Val were brilliantly helpful throughout our stay. They gave us many local tip-offs about beaches and secluded coves, pointed us to the magnificent cathedral city of Cadiz and recommended us the finest local restaurant experience for a very special birthday meal which was a lasting memory of a perfect summer break. We whole heartedly recommend this little secret in the hills of Andalucia! There is so much to discover, so much to be enjoyed locally for little expense and a wealth of history surrounding the area.

Much to enjoy for the young as well ,being in our early twenties we had no trouble keeping ourselves occupied on evening drives and strolls, afternoons lounging by the plunge pool with a bbq going, or mornings of sea breezes with coffee on the porch.

GO. You will not be disappointed. Perfect place, perfect hosts.

Antony and Hannah, Hackney London.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great review. After 6 months since your visit to our little piece of paradise, and having received your Like and comment on our Facebook page, it was a wonderful surprise to be contacted by HomeAway informing us you had written a review.

We are so pleased that, despite being very busy with leaving university and new jobs etc, you can look back to your holiday at Finca Higueron and remember so many of the things that made your two weeks with us so special.

As every year passes, we continue to find out more and more little, special, hard to find things about this area, where we live, and it enables us to provide our guests with many, mostly free, extras that makes their stay special.

Despite reaping the rewards of our efforts, by having so many happy visitors like yourselves, we continue to make improvements to both the cottages and the gardens to ensure our next visitors will be as happy as the last.

Many thanks Hannah and Antony.

Coincidence Led us to Paradise!

  • 5 out of 5
Almost a year has passed since we had the vacation of a life time at this little piece of heaven in Spain, and since the day we returned home, not a day goes by that we don't think of and/or talk about when we can go back. We spent our honeymoon at Finca Higueron and can’t express how much of a gift it was to have discovered this place! Our vacation far exceeded the any expectation of the "perfect escape" we had been dreaming up together for 3 or 4 years. The irony is that we have the same first names as the wonderfully accommodating owners, Tad and Val (the coincidence that lead us to discover this place ... thank you God and Google!) I can't express how wonderful this couple is... available at any moment to offer advise on site seeing, restaurant, or local events in the area that may be worth visiting, and always making sure their guests have everything and are happy. The property is off the beaten track, at the peak of a hill, overlooking the most incredible views! Even the most beautiful photos can’t capture the sense of peaceful serenity we got from the courtyard gardens, the spectacular sunsets, and the view of the ocean beyond the checkerboard countryside. We rode the ferry to Cadiz to adventure around one day and spent another memorable day exploring Vejer de la Frontera with the white stucco buildings and houses built into the hillside and decorated courtyards filled with colorful potted flowers. On Tad’s recommendation, we visited a local fair and had a blast experiencing the local culture with all the talent, food, music, dancing, animals, and vendor tents. We went to a beach in Conil where there were horses grazing along dunes as we went on to the beach and waterfront restaurants, hotels and shops on the opposite side of the beach parking lot. Conil is also the home of the Mercadona, our favorite daily grocery spot. Val keeps an organic garden at Finca Higueron with many vegetables and herbs for guests to help themselves (certainly doesn’t get any more fresh or convenient than that!). Some days we were perfectly content not to venture out far and simply hang out around the cottage because there was plenty of relaxing and exploring to do right there... in fact, I think that was our favorite thing to do!
We are immeasurably grateful for the coincidence that led us to discover this paradise and for the extra special bonus of meeting our namesakes who are now lifetime friends.

"A Little Piece of Paradise"

"A Little Piece of Paradise"

The details on the web site do not do this property justice. The accomodation is spotless, and equipped to a high standard. The hospitality provided by the owners, Tad & Val, was excellent - nothing was too much trouble, and the generous donations of wonderful nerbs & vegetables from Val's garden enhanced many sunset barbeques. The gardens were lovely, with breathtaking vistas, and the local beaches were some of the best we have seen in Spain.
Set on high ground, with the nearest village 3km away this property is ideal for getting away from the crowds and unwinding. Perfect! We would definitely return.
Not suitable for those wanting English pubs and breakfasts on their doorstep!

Relaxing and peaceful, with so much to offer

  • 5 out of 5
Our time here seemed to fly by, we wish we had longer. The location is fantastic, just a few kilometres from the coast but in a beautiful rural setting with views which go all along the coastline from Cape Trafalgar virtually up to Cadiz, and with views of Africa in the distance. The Finca was all we hoped for and more, spotlessly clean, and with everything you might need. Tad and Val make you most welcome, and will help with any directions or local knowledge. The beaches are some of the best we have been on and we have travelled far and wide. The sea is good for swimming in, with gently shelving beaches. While it was hot, it was not oppressive as there was a continual breeze. Fortunately the area has not yet been discovered by the package tour companies and there are no high rise hotels, clubs, English or Irish bars, long may it stay this way. It also seems cheaper than other parts of Spain, and the local towns and villages have that true Spanish feel to them. The sea food is excellent. There is plenty to see and do in the area. All in all an excellent place to relax and unwind, many thanks to Tad and Val for a very enjoyable holiday.

Imagine sitting in your own private pool, with a refreshing drink, with the aroma of freshly picked vegetables on your barbecue as you watch the sun setting over the Atlantic Ocean before a peaceful, quiet nights sleep. That's what you get at Finca Higueron.

We are situated on the Costa de la Luz, Spain's southern Atlantic coast, halfway between Tarifa and Cadiz. Just, fifteen minutes from the white Moorish village of Vejer de la frontera and a ten minute drive from the beautiful beach at Conil. Finca Higueron is easy to find and just 4km from the E5 A48 motorway which takes you to Cadiz, Jerez and Malaga on the Costa del Sol

Positioned on top of a hill, 190 meters above sea level, the finca has spectacular all round panoramic views, which include Trafalgar lighthouse and the beaches of El Palmar and Conil on the Atlantic ocean, Africa, Cadiz, Novo Sancti Petri, Vejer de la Frontera and surrounding national parks and La Janda. The location of Finca Higueron and the two cottages is idyllic for either a wonderful beach holiday, a quiet relaxing holiday, or both. Check out our web site below for more information.

The nearest bar/restaurant Tyxer is at the start of the road and Finca Higueron is a little over 2KM from the center of La Muela, where there is a very popular, inexpensive Italian restaurant and Venta Rufino’s provides excellent, low priced food in a local friendly atmosphere

If you fancy a round of golf, we are central to Montenmedio, and the golf courses at Benalup, Novo Sancti Petri and Jerez. (SherryGolf, Valla Nueva, San Andreas (etc)

Out and about: There is something to do for everyone in the Costa de la Luz. You can go to a different, sandy beach every day of you holiday. Near to Finca Higueron are historic sites, including the 16 acres of Roman ruins fronting the beach at Bolonia; the little know Palomo Cortija, where pigeons were bred for the Spanish galleons; an old grain water mill that is still worked by local villagers. For nature lovers, there is dolphin and whale watching off Tarifa, or take a trip to one of Europe’s largest wild life parks at Donona or a local bird watching expedition. Locally there are many sporting activities, including four golf courses within a 1/2-hour and eight within an hour’s drive; there is horse riding, scuba diving, surfing, wind surfing, para surfing and also hang gliding from Vejer. Less than an hour away a large aqua-park is open in the summer. Also, through the summer months each town takes it in turn to have a fair and some towns, including Vejer, have a bull run through its streets.

Local towns and cities, away from the country: Although the southern Costa de la Luz is quiet and unspoilt by tourism, there are a number of white Moorish Spanish towns, with churches, monuments and narrow streets waiting to be explored. Within half an hour of Finca Higueron, are the towns of Vejer, Conil, Medina Sidonia, Benalup and Barbate. A little further away there is Tarifa, at Europe’s most southern point. There are views to Africa (17KM away) over the straights of Gibraltar. To the north the working city of Cadiz, steeped with history, is less than an hour away. It has very few big shops; instead there is a traditional Spanish city centre with churches and historic buildings, a large, busy, fresh meat, fish and vegetable market. Also there is the main port and long sandy beaches, and. For wine trips and tasting, Jerez, Sanlucar and Chipiona make up the world’s sherry triangle. While Seville, the capital of Andalusia and flamenco is a little further north.
