Belfast born and bred and currently living in another small fishing village with lots of history in Co Down. I love the rugged Co Antrim coastline just as much - particularly the great first gasp of 'north coast' sea air every visit - wonderfully restorative!

Etta Halliday purchased this cottage in 2006

It's walking distance to the places I love most - Giant's Causeway and Dunluce Castle. I'm a 'Chronicles of Narnia' fan and if this landscape could inspire CS Lewis, it's inspirational for this writer too.

It's a home from home - for me, my family and it seems our guests love it just as much. I love that our little cluster of homes is surrounded by fields and hedgerows yet walk for just a handful of minutes and you're at the restaurants and stores in the village. Perfectly peaceful and perfectly positioned.

A SPICK AND SPAN COTTAGE IN BUSHMILLS

  • 5 out of 5
Eagry Cottage is a spick and span, neat and clean, house in Bushmills. We had a very comfortable stay with everything we needed, and would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. Etta, the landlady, was easy to communicate with and was very helpful in setting up our stay.

WONDERFUL STAY IN A MAGNIFICIENT SCENERY

  • 5 out of 5
Our stay (2 adults + our 4 year old son) was just as good as we could have hoped for. We felt at home as soon as we stepped through the door, finding Ettas little presents for dinner as well as the fireplace ready to kindle. The house was immaculately clean and very well equipped, the supermarket and the Bushmills distillery 5 minutes away, the town centry only 5 minutes further - the perfect place to start our daily trips (Giant´s Causeway - on foot and by train-, Dunluce castle, Bushmills distillery, The Hedges, Carrick-a-rede-bridge, White rock beach, Derry/Londonderry, Glenariff Forest, Portrush, Mussenden Temple).
We had a wonderful time and can highly recommend house and area.
Thanks again Etta!!!

PS: The scones in the "Bushmills Inn" are absolutely spectacular. And don´t miss the pub "The Quays" in Portrush - the staff is very nice and the rumpsteak melts in your mouth...

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words Rainer and I'm glad you had a good visit with us. Thanks too for the notes about places to go and things to do - even with a small child! You've introduced a new eatery to me too and I'll have to pay The Quays a visit.

Look forward to having the opportunity to welcome you back someday!

GREAT SPOT JUST OUTSIDE BUSHMILLS

  • 5 out of 5
This was a very nice home located within walking distance to Bushmills - both the town and the Distillery. Well kept in a nice complex of similar homes.

Booking: This was made very easy via e-mail conversations, availability discussions, review of the terms and conditions and payment through VRBO.

Communication: During the time leading up to our trip we received several e-mails with instructions, suggestions about what to do, helpful hints about the property and particulars about the surrounding area.

Day of Arrival: We received a text with instructions for entry and found the home warm, clean and just what we needed. The owner left some food for us to nibble on upon our arrival which was appreciated after a long drive from Dublin.

During our stay: The house is well situated for traveling to many of the sites in Northern Ireland. We saw the Distillery, the town of Bushmills, the town of Portrush, Giant's Causeway, the Dark Hedges, Dunluce Castle, the Rope Bridge and many other sites during our time there. Finn MacCools is a recommended local pub that we enjoyed and the Hip Chip was a great place to get Fish n Chips. There is a local grocer as well that can provide all the staples you need for the stay.

Most of the time we spent in the house, we were asleep so there were amenities like the fireplace and the entertainment center that we did not take advantage of. All in all it suited our needs extremely well, and we would highly recommend it!

WELL APPOINTED AND VERY CLEAN HOLIDAY HOME

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed at Ettas house for five days. It is very well appointed and very clean. It is a good starting point to discover Giants Causeway and the surrounding coastline. We even did a hiking trip to Giants Causeway starting directly at the holiday home. There is a footpath along the Heritage Railway passing a beautiful beach leading directly to Giants Causeway.
Another plus is that it is so close to Bushmills distillery. So you can take a tour there and enjoy a sample of the whiskeys without the need to drive afterwards.
We can really recommend this holiday home to everybody who wants to discover the north of Ireland.

Owner's Response: We're really glad to hear you'd such a good time Jorg - and glad you enjoyed the walk to the Giant's Causeway. For just a three mile trip, it goes through some beautiful countryside!

Thank you so much for the lovely review and hopefully we'll get to welcome you back again - even if it's just for another trip across the road to the whiskey testing!

FANTASTIC HOME BASE ON GIANT'S CAUSEWAY COAST!

Fantastic Home Base on Giant's Causeway Coast!
  • 5 out of 5
Our party of five arrived at Eagry Cottage on Saturday, 29/3/14. Etta contacted us shortly after our arrival to ensure we were settling in. Etta's local property managers, Sammy and Ailsa, also checked in on us to make sure our accommodations were in order. We were prepared for cold and wet weather, but neither ever materialized, having fair weather for the entire week. We made trips to Carrick-a-rede, Dunluce Castle, Giant's Causeway, Inishowen Peninsula and Malin Head via the Magilligan Point to Greencastle Ferry across Lough Foyle , Derry City/Londonderry City, Belfast City, drove along the Giant's Causeway Coastal Road, explored two of the Nine Glens of Antrim, checked out The Dark Hedges, and walked the Strand at White Rocks. All were spectacular day trips and activities from our Eagry Cottage home base. Took walking guided tours of Derry City/Londonderry City and the Giant's Causeway, while taking a Belfast City Bus guided tour of Belfast. All of the guided tours were well worth the price and most informative. All our tour guides have given the five of us lasting memories. Etta's secret concealed gate pathway to the Bushmills Spar made it quite easy to make runs to the store for convenience items. We had lovely meals at the Harbor Bistro in Portrush, the Fullerton Arms in Ballintoy, the Patisserie de Pascal in Cardonagh (Inishowen/Donegal), the Bushmills Inn, Copper Kettle Tearoom & Cafe in Bushmills, Porthole Restaurant in Portballintrae, Laragh Lodge near Glenariff Forest Park (Glenariff, Queen of the Nine Glens), The Diamond Pub in the heart of Derry/Londonderry, the Morningstar Pub in Belfast, and the Royal Court Hotel @ White Rocks. All of our breakfasts and a couple of dinners were prepared in Etta's well equipped kitchen and we all dined quite comfortably in the eat-in kitchen. All of the scenery was spectacular and we all were awestruck by seeing spring lambs everywhere we looked. The wee babies are too adorable to describe adequately. We were never lacking for something to do and I think we just about saw everything we set out to see. One lone exception was finding the Gobbins Trail on Island Magee, but we did pretty well for ourselves, thanks to Etta's wonderfully equipped and situated Eagry Cottage. We all crossed Carrick-a-rede and returned safely, so we're all destined to return to County Antrim and Eagry Cottage again. Thanks Etta !

PERFECT FAMILY DESTINATION

  • 5 out of 5
This is a fabulous property beautifully presented house and Etta left the fire ready for lighting upon our arrival as well as easter eggs for the children and cakes for ourselves which we felt was a lovely touch. The cottage is situated in a quiet cul de sac so the children were safe while out playing and there is a short cut which leads you directly to the centre of Bushmills within minutes. The interior of the house is tastefully decorated and was spotlessly clean upon our arrival with clear instructions on how to operate the heating etc.
The highlights of our trip were a visit the the amazing Giants Causeway, the Carrick a rede bridge as well as the Bushmills Whiskey factory. Bushmills is a quaint town with lovely shops and restaurants. We had a very nice meal in the Distillery Arms and would recommend it.
Eagry Cottage is the perfect location for exploring Co Antrims amazing countryside and beaches and we also visited Portstewart and Portrush. Etta the owner was very easy and efficient to deal with. We would recommend the house to either a family or couples and hope to return in the future. Highly recommended!

Bushmills is just one hour from Belfast International airport, yet it's another world. We're right at the heart of the stunning Causeway Coastal Route - the essential Irish journey. With nine breathtaking Glens of Antrim to cycle, walk or drive, Eagry Cottage is less than a handful of miles from the main attractions: it's just 2 miles to the Giant's Causeway (World Heritage Site), Portballintrae beach, Dunluce Castle, Royal Portrush Golf Course, great surfing, and we're right on the doorstep of the famous Old Bushmills Whiskey Distillery - 'legally' making whiskey since 1608!

There are great restaurants, pubs, coffee shops and craft nooks just an easy, short stroll away as well as seaside towns, fishing villages, National Trust properties and tiny, peaceful harbors to visit.

Pony trekking, the Old Llammas Fair in Ballycastle (August), the North West 200 road race (motorbikes) and Bird Sanctuary on Rathlin Island are all within easy reach of the house.

Golf: Links golf is the game played on a course designed by mother nature with as many humps and bumps as you like with a view unequalled for it's beauty! At Eagry Cottage, we love to boast one of the word's top links courses almost on our doorstep. Royal Portrush - just 3 miles away and home to the 2012 Irish Open! ('Home' to Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell - GMac, Darren Clarke and Padraig Harrington - if you have to ask.... you're not a golfer!)

The Royal County Down Course is easily within driving distance too, though by the time you've tested your skills on the marvellous Portstewart and Castlerock courses as well, we think you'll have enough travellers tales to tell of the game at it's best, along one of the world's most spectacular coastlines.

All courses have specific information on their respective websites - easy enough to find on the web.
