About this property

A Wonderful Peaceful Safe Location with History & Heritage in Royal Co Meath..

Smithstown House is a warm welcoming home with self catering accommodation for up to 6 guests.
Ideal for families or just friends looking for a holiday away from the chaos of life.
Our property offers wide open spacious private grounds, mature broadleaved trees and rolling lawns looking over the lush green fields of Royal County Meath and yet only a short drive to lots of activities in the area.
Dublin city centre is a 40 minute drive.
Safety with perfect peace in which to enjoy your break away from the hustle and bustle of today's hectic world.
The Old Walled Garden which is accessed literally by stepping out of the back door from the kitchen was in its hay day a working garden with two greenhouses, fruit trees and so on.
This supplied the house with organic fruits, vegetables and flowers.
In the 1950s the Walled Garden was transformed into a thorough bred paddock for mares, foals and yearlings and is
now a wonderful secluded area in which the children can run free while the adults chill out over a glass of vino as the BBQ grills away in the corner.
Here you can play rounders, tag rugby, soccer, hit a few balls over the tennis net or practise your chipping and pitching or just doze away in perfect tranquillity and seclusion just listening to the birdsong
The accommodation has a bright sunny living room with TV, games, books and magazines and a selection box of children's toys
The large kitchen is completely fitted out with requirements for 6/8 guests to dine.
4 bedrooms which include 1 King sized bed, a Twin bedroom and 2 further Single bedrooms.
The 2 bathrooms both have baths and showers.
We have lots of off street free parking and if you need to park a horse box, speed boat or even yacht we have the space.
So if and when you can prise yourself away from this tranquil setting there are numerous castles, heritage sites, theme parks, and sporting venues right on your doorstep and we have lots of information at hand to help you choose the best places to dine, tour, and see all that Royal Meath and the Boyne Valley has to offer to its visitors,
Our local village is Dunshaughlin with a broad range of shops to choose from and is a 10 minute drive.
Killeen Castle Golf course backs onto Smithstown House farm if you fancy playing a top quality golf course.
The historic Hill of Tara is a 10 minute drive.
Its hard to believe that Smithstown House is a
40 minute drive to the vibrant capital that is Dublin City.
Smithstown House and its environs truly is a magical setting from which you will go home feeling fresh and relaxed having shaken off all the stresses of the "outside" world.

Excellent stay
We had a lovely time at Dunsany, the host James was a great host, he ensured he was available at the property to welcome us in. The house was lovely and met our needs fully, we used this as a base for a few days at a concert in Dublin and were delighted with it. I would definitely book this again.

Beautiful house and grounds
Wow the house and grounds are incredibly beautiful with views all around. My family loved seeing the sheep in the field & also horses across the way as well as playing on the swings & with the sports equipment. The house was perfect for us, loads of room & everything we could possibly need including stair gates. We were so thankful to have booked here as it was a little bit of calm away from the hustle of Dublin, but still near enough to visit.

About the host

Hosted by James

Host profile image
I am continuing on the 65 year farming tradition of my family. I have lived at Smithstown House all my life.
In the past Smithstown was a hive of activity with thoroughbred race horses, brood mares, foals, along with cattle, sheep, hayfields and cereals.

Why they chose this property

Smithstown House, guest accommodation and farm have been owned by my family since 1953
My 3 siblings and I had wonderful freedom roaming the fields and generally getting up to as much mischief as possible. Most of our days were spent either on our ponies, climbing trees, fishing in our local little stream at the bottom of the farm, jumping on the haycocks in the summer or playing hide and seek in the surrounding woodland.

What makes this property unique

Unique benefits of this haven of tranquillity include peace, a very safe environment, wide open spaces to run free, with birdsong being the only sound you will hear and yet we are only a short distance from all the excitement you may require or for a wonderful relaxing holiday, the choice is yours
