Hundreds of miles of spectacular hiking trails criss cross the forests and mountains. Mountain biking and horseback riding are available at the top of the hill. Kids of all ages will love the Alpine Slide just up the road. Ride the Gondola to the top of Moose Mountain and have lunch on the deck of the chalet, it's a spectacular view! Golfers, Superior National Golf course offers 27 holes of beautiful scenery and challenging golf right across Ski Hill Road. Lutsen's ski hills are just 1/2 a mile up Ski Hill Road, you can see the ski runs from the master bedroom window. This is the best skiing in Midwest! Cross country ski, snowshoe or take dog sled and sleigh rides along Lake Superior at nearby Lutsen Resort. Miles of scenic snowmobile trails through beautiful forests are nearby and easily accessible. Big news! Our home was professionally decorated and it's very comfortably furnished. The master bedroom suite offers a private retreat after a hard day at play. There's a whirlpool for two and a private bath and every window offers a beautiful view of mountains, trees or Lake Superior.
Set in the trees on with no buildings behind it to block the view. Every window that faces the lake has a view of the lake as does the covered deck and screen porch. There's a fire ring to gather around for evenings under the stars and let me tell you, they are spectacular here. It's the ideal vacation home for families and friends. Close to everything you love about the north shore, but away from the crowded resorts.

If you have never tried snowshoeing, you don't know what you are missing! We are often the only people out on the trails and we can go anywhere we can hike, no need for a groomed trail. The beauty of the area is always there but there's something really special about seeing it all coated in snow. The bare trees allow for views you don't see in the summer. Strap on some snowshoes on your next winter trip and see for yourself, it's amazing!
Jo purchased this cabin in 2002
We go to the north shore as often as we can, sometimes several times a year. We finally decided owning a home 'up north' made sense for us so we bought a vacation home in Lutsen. Of all the areas along the north shore, Lutsen has the most activities nearby making it a great place to go for an active vacation. We love to hike, snowshoe, golf and of course, watch the 'big lake', all of which we can do within 1/2 a mile of our home.
Our home is one of only 12 homes that share 20 acres, it's not part of a resort so it's quiet and private but still really close to everything we love to do in Lutsen. We appreciate being out on our screen porch or deck and seeing trees and the lake, not other buildings. What made us fall in love with it is the decor. The home was built in 2001 and decorated right after September 11th so the builder's professional decorators chose a red and white and blue color scheme, it's very colorful and so unique. When we say it's cute, it really is, people love staying here.
We have returned to Kansas and it is over 100 here today, not the beautiful Minnesota weather we have
grown used to this last week. A wonderful stay was had by all and hopefully, we will get to return sometime in the future.
Thank you for sharing your cozy cabin with us. We will be sure to pass the info to any of our friends who may be heading your way.
Five of my best friends and I wanted to get away from the Twin Cities to ski for the weekend, this was the PERFECT cabin for our trip! It is the quintessential cabin home and is in such a beautiful location. We literally woke up the first morning to a sunlit view of the lake and deer in the yard. Plus, it's less than five minutes down the road to the ski hill! The kitchen is fully equipped, the towels are soft, the beds are cozy, and it's the perfect open living space to gather around the fire and play games. We are already planning our return for a summer getaway!
We rented from Jo for two ski weekends and the house was just wonderful. Clean, open floor plan, worked just great for all of us! Really comfortable furnishings and the kitchen was well stocked with what we needed, and it was really nice to be able to cook in a real kitchen. The grill was definitely a plus too. Nice big table to gather around and entertainment from TV and movies to card games when we got back from skiing all day. As our son says "it was just a good house!" and wants to know when we will be able to stay there again! We'll be back!
Several adult family members enjoyed our stay at the "Solitude" cabin home. It was a very comfortable and cozy stay for us. We used the kitchen often and appreciated having what we needed available and didn't need to "run out" after any supplies. We wanted to be outdoors which would not have happened without the screened in porch, darn those mosquitoes!!! This home was very clean and we love the decor. We would be happy to return again....thank you for your quick responses for all correspondence Jo. We enjoyed the beautiful wedding, hiking, shopping and golf during our stay.
Thank you for sharing your home - we were looking for something family-friendly in the Lutsen area and this property was ideal. I very much appreciated the thorough communication prior to our trip as well as the clear, simple instructions for using the property. The amenities were perfect for our stay - the grill, laundry, movies, games, etc. Location was very nice - super easy access to Lutsen Mountain, Superior National Golf, etc. Overall a very nice stay for the value. Only thing keeping this from a "Excellent" rating was road noise when sitting on the porch. Thanks again!
We have stayed in several vacation homes and this home is by far the best. Very clean and I give the decorator A+. It is so peaceful and relaxing and the view is awesome. The owner, Jo, is so helpful and prompt on answering any questions. We will definitely come back to this treasure many times.
We had a great stay in this beautiful cabin. It was roomy, immaculate, and had wonderful views. The owners are very attentive, know the area well, gave great suggestions on hiking areas, parks, restaurants, and other varying interests. We loved our stay and would love to go back! The waterfalls were spectacular! You need to go there and soak up the hospitality and enjoy the nature.
The newest section of the Gitchi-Gami State Trail was just completed and it starts just down Ski Hill Road from our home. Now you can bike or walk on a dedicated asphalt path all the way to Schroeder!
More big news, the Caribou Express high speed chair lift will be installed for the 2013/14 ski season!
Coming soon! North Shore Winery and micro brewery is being built across from our home. We will add an update here when it opens.
Enjoy a sleigh ride, sled dog ride, cross country skiing, or snowshoeing along Lake Superior's North Shore at Lutsen Resort less than 1/2 a mile away. Sleigh rides are also available at Cascade Lodge.
