Photos and Description of this 8 bedroom holiday villa in Constantine Bay - Constantine Bay House
8 Bedroom, 5 Bathroom Redesigned And Renovated Home Along The Cornwall Coast
On the lookout
Cornwall’s rugged coast stretches around the south-western tip of the UK. Think dramatic coastal walks, fresh fish caught and served daily – chef Rick Stein’s seafood eateries bequeathed Padstow (four miles away) its ‘Padstein’ nickname – and a chilled-out surfing community waiting on the next swell. Constantine Bay House is a home that’s lasted the years. Built over 100 years ago, your hosts completely redesigned and renovated its structure, creating a glass-fronted facade and re-shaping its modern, open-plan layout.
Now it rises boldly amongst rolling fields, looking out from the Atlantic coastline. The view from the full-length windows is this home’s muse – you’ll see the marine in the deep blue accessories, while the floors are all sandy-hued. But with the local beach 200 yards down the lane, and picturesque Booby’s Bay a little further, you don’t have to travel far to feel real sand beneath your toes. Nor the green beneath your golf shoes, with Trevose Golf Club 200 yards in the opposite direction. And if you’re feeling the pull of the high tide, you might hire a surfboard and all the kit from Constantine Bay Surf Store, or watch the waves from the heights of Trevose Lighthouse.
Where the ocean meets the sky
Though the five-hour drive from London to Constantine Bay is a long one, you’ll be in good company with folks swapping the concrete cityscape for sand and sea. The four-hour train ride from Paddington to Bodmin Parkway station – 35 minutes from home – is another option for those arriving separately. The fastest alternative is flying into Newquay Airport, a 15-minute drive from the home.
Salt air and sea shells
With strong lines and so much glass, Constantine Bay House stands out from the cluster of surrounding white-washed houses. Its rooms flow freely – from the sleek grey kitchen to the airy dining area with seating for eight, through the sliding glass doors out onto the sprawling front garden. Seaside plants and flowers thrive, as well as a well-manicured lawn made for Frisbee games and kite flying, and a barbecue for outdoor gatherings. If you prefer entertaining al fresco without the hassle, you might arrange for the local chef service to cook – or grill – instead.
Inside there are downstairs and upstairs sitting rooms, both with crimson sofas and cobalt cushions, so grown-ups might settle with glasses of wine in one while youngsters dive into the collection of board games. Your hosts have prepared well for unpredictable weather: there’s a table tennis room and a separate television room for movies. You can roam the house in search of pebbled paintings and shell collections, or retire to one of the soothing bedrooms, each with traditional pine furniture and sea-white walls. Either way, be sure to venture to the home’s highest point – the master suite’s angled windows allow you to keep watch along the sea line.
