We are a retirement age couple who find ourselves away from San Francisco more often these days. Although we love our home and we love San Francisco, we also like to travel. Now we rent our home to guests like you while we are away. When we are home we are usually working to upgrade and refresh our house. We know you will enjoy the results!
David purchased this condo in 1997
We have lived in the San Francisco area for more than 40 years and purchased our San Francisco home in 1997. In 2001 we began to spend time away and a friend suggested we try VRBO. We soon learned that people really enjoyed our home-like atmosphere. We are thrilled with the response we have gotten and work hard to keep our new and returning guests contented and feeling cared for. Visitors say they appreciate our knowledge of the city and our professional attitude.
Most guests mention the feeling of a being in a real home on entering the house. We think this is because we still live there part-time and keep the house comfortable and well maintained not only for our guests but for ourselves as well. We are also proud of our garden, keeping it maintained even while we are away. We paint, scrape, clean, renew, update and replace parts of the house every time we come to visit. We think it shows. Our guests certainly enjoy our home. Read the reviews! Over 150 5 star ratings. We get these ratings not because everything is always perfect (we do try, however!) but because we go out of our way to help our guests settle in and feel at home and we respond quickly to any question. Finally, if you are bringing a car, you will absolutely love our little garage (for economy to mid-size cars). Parking rules in SF can make you dizzy. If you don't bring a car - great! - hop on the bus one block from the front door.
I stayed here for 5 nights and enjoyed every minute. The house is exactly how it looks, and has everything from a huge TV, to a fully equipped kitchen (better than mine at home!) There are also a number of rooms (dining area, kitchen, lounge and front room); meaning even if the maximum number of people stayed it wouldn’t feel cramped. The garden was also beautiful, and much bigger than the picture suggests. I even spied a BBQ!
Lucky supermarket (a full supermarket, not just a corner shop) is a short block away. It literally had every type of food you could imagine. As the kitchen was so well stocked I did end up preparing my own breakfasts, and cooked a couple of evenings. There were many pantry items left over from previous guests, so if you wanted to cook a meal you could check before going to Lucky. I was so glad of the kitchen, as a solo traveler eating out at night seemed a bit daunting. Plus it meant I had the home comforts in a great new city.
The laptop, printer and internet were useful. Used it to order take out one night (so I could watch the first episode of Glee on the biggest TV I've ever seen in my life). Connection was great, and the laptop large enough for a couple of people to crowd round and decide what to do in San Francisco. My Mac laptop also logged on to the wifi fine.
The bus stop was literally around the corner, and using the internet I was able to print out all routes very easily. I bought a 7 day passport that gave you unlimited travel on the Muni system. However at only $2 per trip, I don't think the passport was needed. When entering the bus your ticket is valid for up to 90 minutes. The maximum time I spent traveling was 45 minutes, and that was to the zoo so travel time really wasn't long. Plus you get to feel like a native (3 times somebody asked me for directions, so I think I blended in well!!!) the closest bus was also 24 hours so no worrying about trying to get home at night.
Booking the apartment was easy, and the few questions I had were answered very quickly. Given the time difference (I am in the UK) I do wonder if David does ever actually sleep.
There was a document provided that had all info in. everything from taxi numbers, to emergency contact details and how the washing machine works.
I would definitely stay here again. Much nicer than one of the hotels around union square (and cheaper, especially if you cook some meals)
My family of 3 stayed in this wonderful home for 4 nights in a wonderful part of San Francisco. Plenty of room and privacy for couple and teenage son. Everything you could possibly need for your stay was provided in the home including use of all electronic equipment such as internet, laptop, tv, dvd player, etc. Wonderful, large kitchen, facilities like washer/dryer which were invaluable, beautiful garden out back where you could sit quietly with a cuppa; local supermarket was 2 mins away and bus stops to take you downtown or to see Golden Gate Bridge all within easy walking distance. The home has a fabulous manual for FAQ. Booked trip to Alcatraz and again no problem getting to the pier from the home via public transport. 30 min taxi ride to the airport. Communciation with David the homeowner was easy and straightforward with excellent instructions and tips for our arrival. Would recommend this place in a hearbeat! You won't find better!
My wife and I stayed at David's home for 11 nights in September 2014. I had read most of the reviews and seen all of the photos from the website beforehand and we certainly weren't disappointed when we arrived. The home was perfect, large, spacious and immaculate, truly a wonderful home. David provided everything we needed to know about the home and all of it's gadgets and the use of the laptop and internet was brilliant. The local supermarket (Lucky) was only 2 minutes walk from the property which catered for all our grocery needs and we found a great micro brewery across the street, opposite the supermarket where we spent quite some time!! Amazing ales and beers (www.barrelheadsf.com) We couldn't fault the property at all and would highly recommend it to any one really. It's a little bit of a way from the tourist traps of the wharfs, Pier 39 etc... but plenty of buses run down to Union Square and the Ferry Building so it wasn't a problem at all. Golden Gate Park is a short walk and we actually spent a morning walking through the park and went all the way to the beach at the other end, a long walk but a really lovely way to see the park. I'd just like to say a huge thanks to David for his hospitality, it really made our holiday and we would love to come back one day. Thanks again and sorry it's taken me so long to do this review.
The level of organization in your home is beyond description. Every amenity had ample directions for usage, and every possible need was anticipated and provided. Your home was delightful and couldn't be more convenient to a large super market, numerous restaurants and breakfast cafes, and the golden gate park, which provided many hours of enjoyment. I would not hesitate to return the next time I am in San Francisco.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas in San Francisco and spending some of that time at your warm and lovely warm just topped it off! Thank you so much for your hospitality and attention to detail. Everything was perfect and I hope we left your home in good order. I treated it as I would my own....and I am finnicky!
I hope you will have us back again on a future visit. Thanks for everything!
Happy New Year!
Fabulous location for walkers--park, restaurants, Presidio, ocean. Beautiful garden, well appointed kitchen, all technology operational!
David has first class guest service at the top of his agenda. Lots of little things really helped. My favourites: use of installed laptop and printer, and useful local information easily signposted; being able to make local calls from the home phone (really good when our mobile routes via uk); well equipped kitchen but the little things really helped for a week's stay, food wrap, salt & pepper, laundry soap, to name but a few. We wanted to blend into the local area for our short stay, but this actually needed somewhere we felt safe, good shops with fresh foods, easy access to public transport. All these local amenities were covered in the information provided and it was a truly great area. The local family run coffee shop had our names and favourite coffees by day 2! Everyday (after coffee!) we swam in the pool at nearby San Francisco University. A great resource a few blocks away. And we really loved San Francisco. I can't think of any other big city where we have received so much help and warm welcomes whatever we were doing. Don't hesitate, book this apartment. Thank you David, we hope to come back.
It is easy to enjoy your visit to exciting San Francisco: walk one block to a full supermarket, five minutes to Golden Gate Park Panhandle, ten to Alamo Square Park with its famous Painted Lady Victorians. Just a fifteen-minute walk to exciting Haight-Ashbury or to Buena Vista Park with its trails, tennis courts and panoramas of the bay, or thirty to the Conservatory in GG Park.
Fifteen Minutes or less by car from your own secure garage to Downtown shopping, Golden Gate Bridge, Ocean Beach, the Haight, Upper Fillmore, Castro. Sausalito 30 mins, Muir Woods, Napa County 1 hr, Monterey Bay 2 hr.
But Why Drive? Bus stop one block away. Go to Golden Gate Park 5m or Ocean Beach 20m. Powell Street cable car in 20 mins, with a short walk to Union Square or Moscone Center. Quick transfer at Powell St. to the Ferry Building (Sausalito ferry), Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, & Baseball Park. 15 mins. from Regional Underground (BART) to go to Berkeley or SFO & OAK Airports.
