Relax on a bench by one of 2 waterlily ponds, or bask in the sun on your recliner with a cool drink. Get active or get lazy, as the spirit moves you! Breakfast on sweet apple bananas & papaya. the place. We loved the walk up the hill about a mile with the spectacular view down across Hilo Bay. Great view from the lanai and quiet sitting was the best. Beautiful clean elegantly decorated place! Loved it! Can't wait to come back! Thanks Dave and Nora

David & Nora are longtime residents of Hilo. David is a master wood bowl turner and built our homes and gardens here in Hilo. Nora is an CNS, MSN, RN, traveler, animal lover. We lived in Alaska for 18 fine years prior to moving back to Hawaii to raiser our family of a son and 2 daughters. Love our home here in Waiakea Uka and sharing it with friends and family!

Nora Waters purchased this house in 1999

We found this 3 acre Waiakea Uka property after months of searching on the east side of the Big Island. It is a dream come true for us to be able to live her and share it. The climate is wonderful; the breezes balmy and the night delightfully cool. We love animals: our dwarf Nigerian goats, chickens, 2 dogs and cats, and so do our guests. We live a casual life, grateful for all we have. We work hard to keep everything clean & welcoming for our guests!

Sunny days, cool nights, nightly rains that keep Hilo GREEN! The many rare palms, our bee hive, our ponds and lotus flowers, and other seasonal bloomers: orchids, vireyas of many colors, ti, hibiscus, brugmansia. David's wood shop. Beautiful walks up the hill and grand views of the ocean from Hilo Bay to Kapoho lighthouse. The company of friends, family, animals and the god sent trades that keep us a unique spot on earth. The lovely drive up to the house with striking views of Mauna Kea, Panewa Forest, & Hilo Bay. Driving to work at 6am is a joy, and how many people can say that? We are grateful for this very special spot and hope you enjoy its unique perspective on East Hawaii.

LOVELY HOUSE AND GARDENS, WELCOMING OWNERS, PEACEFUL & FUN

Lovely House and Gardens, Welcoming Owners, Peaceful & Fun
  • 5 out of 5
I think back fondly on our stay at Noe's Nest. Just a 15-minute drive from the Hilo airport but this lovely home felt miles away nestled in an amazing palm stand and peaceful tropical flower garden. As others have said this vacation home is just as described by the owners or better. The kitchen was well supplied - we ate breakfast in and baked a seafood dinner one evening - and the accessible bathroom had bathing supplies, ample towels, etc. as needed.
When weren't visiting the nearby sights (the Volcano National Park, Hilo farmer's market, Honomu coast, etc.) my husband, son (20+yrs) and I enjoyed sitting on the veranda of the house watching birds, looking out at the expansive coastal view or reading often with a friendly cat or dog visiting for a scratch on the neck. Feeding the new baby goat and watching the herds’ antics was fun.
Nora & Dave were very welcoming while also respecting our privacy. When we asked the name of a bird at the feeder they brought by bird guides, when we were curious about the toads that visited their garden at night they lent us a headlamp and showed us where to look. It did rain a fair amount while we were there but it was a warm rain and didn't prevent us from enjoying our visit. Hilo and Noe's Nest felt like a visit to Hawaii, not to a Hawaiian tourist trap. We recommend this home without reservation.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for visiting Noe's Nest! Dave and I enjoyed sharing the special features of living in our little paradise spot with you both and your sweet son. Its wonderful when I can connect with people who "get" Hawaii in the way that we do. Its a simple and beautiful life, and when the rain falls, its warm, as you said! Take care and please come back again soon to visit the toads, the bees and the dogs and cats! Aloha, Nora and David

VERY ACCOMMODATING HOSTS AND BEAUTIFUL, CLEAN HOME AND WONDERFUL GROUNDS.

  • 5 out of 5
We arrived a day early (our mistake, completely) and Dave and Nora could not have been more accommodating. They put us up in the bed and breakfast for the night, which was lovely - spotlessly clean and roomy for two adults and two children. The next day they rushed to get Noe's Nest ready for us hours before the usual check-in time, accommodating us so our children could take their naps at their regular times. Noe's Nest was also very roomy, with a terrific porch that we used almost daily. The grounds are alive with the most loving and gentle cats and dogs, and our children adored playing with them and seeing the koi fish and the goats. Nora took a lot of time with us and especially with our kids, showing us all the animals - and helping our children feed many of them. This is an especially wonderful place for families. It is very safe (there is hardly any traffic once you are on the property), and the animals really keep the children entertained. It's also a great learning experience for the kids. We highly recommend staying here.

Owner's Response: Hello Alysa and Gunnar! It was great having you and your two little ones to visit us! We appreciated the opportunity to visit with you and get to know you while you visited our animals and gardens and ponds.
I really loved seeing the children's reactions to the new baby goat, April and all of our animal buddies. What a great chance to share what we love with other like minded folks. Please come back again! We will miss you! Aloha, Nora & Dave

LIKE COMING HOME!

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed 3 nights at Noe's Nest and it was everything we could have asked for in a vacation rental. The house is beautiful and clean, and was just right for our family of five. The master bed is large and comfortable, and the guest room can easily sleep four kids or adults.
The house was fully stocked with everything including spices, cooking oil dish soap in the kitchen, and shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the bathroom. You don't have to bring any of these things with you, and don't have to worry about buying these things at the store first thing after a long journey. It was like arriving home after a trip!
The grounds are lush and beautiful! My 8-year old twin girls and 5 year old daughter had a great time wondering around and exploring. They were never inside! We did not have to worry about TV and iPad at all. They fed the goats with Nora, the owner, checked out the hatching chicks, learnt about the sheep and the lama, saw lizards, and enjoyed petting the two dogs and several cats who waited for us loyally to arrive 'home' in the evening. The owners live on the same property, are very helpful and friendly, and available when needed.
The house is only a short drive up from Hilo, and is not far at all from the beaches and Volcano National Park. If you don't insist on staying right on the beach, Noe's Nest is definitely a nice place to rent. Thank you Nora!

Owner's Response: Monika thank you for visiting us at Noe's Nest! We enjoyed your whole familyand especially loved being able to provide the experience of a small farm for your daughters! This week Heidi had her little baby goat and we named her April! April has a pet abandoned 1/2 size chicken who followed her around and eats next to her. I wish the kids had met her! OUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME!

  • 5 out of 5
I was in Hawaii for 11 weeks for work and had my 10 year old daughter with me and Noe's Nest was our home away from home. We loved coming home to the country, driving up and up the hill past fields of cows and gorgeous flowers and trees, to be greeted by "our dogs" MacKenzie and Kiwi. It was so much fun for my daughter to grab a banana to run back down the drive to say hello to the llama, Merlin, and the goats. We went to sleep to a chorus of frogs and woke up to the distant sunrise over the ocean and the birds singing. Our home was beautiful open space and Nora refreshed the beautiful orchids in every room when the blooms went by. We had everything we could possibly have needed and loved every minute of our stay. We still reminisce about our "pets" and miss them and Hawaii. A big, huge 'thank you' to Nora and Dave for our fabulous stay!

Dave, Nora, and Noe--thanks so much for your hospitality, your warmth, and for sharing your wonderful house! Our return trip to Noe's Nest was the perfect way to re-explore Hilo, Volcano NP, and the Hamakua Coast. Just like last year, we loved watching Pacific Ocean sunrises from our bedroom and the lanai, visiting your animals, having a great kitchen and comfortable living space, and having solitude surrounded by beauty at night and in the morning, but also easy access to tennis courts, surfing, hiking, and Hilo!!! A hui hou and Mahalo! J,P,R & E

Notes:
Noe's Nest is a great place to enjoy the birds of Hawaii! We have a large selection of natural history books featuring local birds to help you identify them. The morning is filled with the music of the Chinese thrush as they trade complex and varied songs, which they are able to repeat perfectly. We have several pairs of the indigenous I'o, the Hawaiian Hawk which hunts by day across the pastures below, sometimes landing in our tall trees. Indigenous Pueo, the Hawaiian owl hunt at night. Maynah's chatter quiets at sunset as their families quiet for sleep. Bright cardinals and several types of thrushes come to the feeder near your lanai table. At night the soft call of the frogs and toads in our ponds lull us to sleep.
