Dreamers' House (Villa Sognatore) is a lakefront property located 10km north of Menaggio on the northwest shore of Lake Como. The house positions its guests right on the lake with private access to the water, which is the best place to acquaint oneself with the beauty and tranquility that make Lake Como so unforgettable. The setting is a botanical paradise as well since the property is surrounded by well-maintained, terracing gardens with mature specimen plants, palm trees and perennials. The property includes 4 stone patios at different heights and 2 large terraces off the bedrooms and living room facing the lake, all affording breathtaking views of the water and Alps. A new scenic walkway on the lake passes near - but not in front of - the property, giving the guest access to restaurants and the lakeside village of San Vito. A separated guest house with the 3rd bedroom/ WC is included. Famous villas, gardens, sites, restaurants, shopping, golf and more are a 10-15 min drive.

From May through October, Milan is staging the Universal Exposition 2015. This large exhibition filled with hundreds of specially-built cultural pavilions will be hosted by the city of Milan, which has undertaken a multi-year development project in preparation for the moment. The theme of the Expo 2015 is 'Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life' and is expected to draw 29 million visitors over the six month period. This embraces technology, innovation, culture, traditions, creativity and how they relate to food and diet. The site is located northwest of the city, in the direction of Lake Como. According to Google Maps, the Expo site is 1 hour and 21 minutes, 81 km (51 miles) from the Dreamers' House, making it an easy day trip. Prices for a day pass are currently listed for €32 per adult. This will be the largest, most heralded event in Italy in 2015.

Golfing: Italy's oldest golf course, established in 1907 (celebrating 100 years in 2007) with 18 holes Par 70, is located above Menaggio in near Croce, in Grandola ed Uniti, approx. 15 min. by car. The clubhouse/restaurant was the location of a recent party for well-known celebrities. Tel: 0344/32103. Green Fees: Weekdays 50 Euros, Weekends and Holidays 65 Euros; Golf Cart Rental 36 Euros. Skiing: The closest major ski resort is Madesimo toward the Splugen Pass, which is approx. 1 hour by car. St. Moritz in Switz. is only 89 km from the house (1hr 45min drive). Other ski resorts are located in the Valtellina near Morbegno. The lake is beautiful to relax next to all year long - the scenery in the winter is some of the most striking, as the air is crisp and the visibility near perfect.

Boating Info - Buoy Available & Other Pictures : Motorboats can be easily rented at various places around the lake, where you can enjoy boating without a license if you rent a boat with an engine that is 40HP or less. Rents are done by the hour, half day or week. Sail boats (with and w/o captain) can be rented and sailing lessons are given at a number of different sailing schools around the lake. A buoy in front of the house on the lake can be rented for an additional 100 euros per week.

Direkt am See kann man unten auf der kleinen Wiese auf Liegestühlen liegen und dem Treiben auf dem See zuschauen, einfach relaxen, lesen, was auch immer. Auch die beiden Balkone sind direkt mit traumhaftem Seeblick. Die exotischen Pflanzen und das warme Sommerwetter kreieren eine wundersame, sehr südländische Atmosphäre. Auf dem See kann man Motorbootfahrten unternehmen, d.h. ein recht schnelles Motorboot selber ausleihen, ganz ohne Führerschein (das ist in Italien wohl erlaubt). Auch die Orte am See, allen voran Menaggio, und die Umgebung sind wunderschön. Ein mondänes Flair wechselt sich ab mit einfachen, schlichten Momenten, und die Einwohner - auch in den Cafés, Supermärkten, eigentlich überall - sind sehr freundlich; so herrscht überall eine durchweg positive Atmosphäre. Sehr empfehlenswert, mind. einmal im Leben hier Urlaub zu machen. Und dieses Haus ist dafür bestens geeignet, mit all der Freiheit, die eine solche Unterkunft einem lässt (und die man in Hotels immer nicht so recht hat).

The property is a scenic 10 minute drive north of Menaggio and 350 meters north of San Vito, a small village directly on the lake and part of the Cremia comune. Importantly, there are two restaurants La Baia (casual restaurant) and Lumin (pizzeria/fresh bread in the morning), both located on the water's edge in San Vito, which can be easily accessed via the new footpath on the lakefront (not necessary to walk along the road). A third restaurant, Veranda Beach Cafe, can be reached a short walk north on the lakeshore in Pianello del Lario.

Min/Hour by car (highly recommended - closest bus stop c. 300 meters), ten minutes from Menaggio (a fashionable main resort in the central lake area that is a hub for ferry, bus, speed and cruise boat connections), Villa Carlotta-Tremezzo 20 minutes, Varenna and Bellagio 30 minutes via ferry, Colico 45 minutes, Como 1 hr, Lugano 1 hr, Milan city center 1.5 hr, Milan Malpensa/Linate airports 1.5 hrs, Bergamo 2 hrs, Saint Moritz 2 hrs, Verona 3 hrs, Venice 3.5 hrs, and Florence 4 hrs. Notes:
The house includes a multi-region DVD player which plays codes 1-6. A satellite TV system has been added with movies/sports/news in English, as well as an exercise bike. Children's beds are 1 crib (adjustable) and 1-person bed in a small fourth room. The eat-in kitchen with island is fully-furnished with modern appliances, including a Kitchen Aid blender. Details on house position: the house is at the bottom of a sloping hill, and is separated a good distance from the road above both by height and length because the 200 sq. meters of gardens and terraces stand between the back of the house and the road (many lakefront houses are built up too close to the road and have to suffer endless road noise and lights; others are on the lake but have no private lake access). A set of stone stairs with railing winds through the gardens and terraces to the house approx. 25 meters below the parking place.
