THE NEIGHBORHOOD
We are located above the small village of Playa Chiquita/Punta Uva approximately 4 km past Puerto Viejo and and 1 km above beach road at top of Calle Shawanda.
Four wheel or all wheel drive is needed as road is steep and it gets rainy in the rainforest.
The beach road down the hill about half mile is lined with eateries and small grocery stores and shops.
The area is known for beautiful beaches and temperate weather year round.
THE CREATURES THAT CALL OUR MOUNTAIN HOME
Delight as endangered Green Macaws stop by to play in our trees and share ocean breezes with our guests.
Take a dip in the pool while monkeys play overhead.
Share the morning Breeze with flocks of toucans and parrots
Hammock out and be lazy with a sloth
Have morning coffee with the agoutis, while looking for green iguanas basking among the bromeliads on the limbs of the giant rainforest trees.
During the annual Great Bird Migrations in the spring and fall there is no better place to watch the raptors by the thousands passing by. It is an amazing sight to witness hours of hawks, vultures and smaller raptors gathered circling in the thermals…it’s a bird party!!!Best of all because we are at the top of the ridge the action takes place all around us..
Wake your adventurous spirit and take a hike in our woods.. Look hundreds of feet up into giant walking palms and rare old growth hardwood trees bigger around then cars, dripping with bromeliads and vines. Stop, be quiet and listen to the jungle symphonies of the tree frogs, birds and crickets.

Our primitive trails wind through the canyons and ridges of our forest, cross cool creeks, and lead you to deep jungle.

BEACH?!!!
Less then ten minutes walk down the mountain is the BEACH at Playa Chiquita, one of the string of gorgeous beaches along the peninsula between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo.
Area offers snorkeling, swimming, diving, dolphin tours, fishing boats, surfing, sand and sun.
The locals invite you to play. Great outdoor venues offer drinks and Caribbean seafood specialties.
All you have to do is choose ....................
.which beach....................... Hmmm .
walk down the hill to
Playa Chiquita, secluded and quiet. The locals beach
Two kilometers away is world famous Punta Uva Beach, repeatedly named as one of the worlds prettiest beachesfor good reason, calm baby pool area ,with an awesome natural bridge and trail up to a viewpoint.
Rental equipment and food options are plentiful..It can be crowded on weekends.
Playa Grande is between Punta Uva and Manzanillo, and is another amazing beach.Down at manzanillo there are even old shipwrecks.
Cocles Beach, two kilometers the other direction on the beach road toward Puerto Viejo is a great surf beach. International competitions share the waves there. Lots of vendors, restaurants, lifeguard on weekends. Cocles is a Party beach, not a quiet secluded one.
Puerto Viejo town boasts long, usually calm black beach and the baby pools right downtown. Old barge is a fun kid place.
These gorgeous beaches are still uncrowded and quiet on weekdays.
Dolphin excursions, dive trips and fishing boats are available at Punta Uva, Manzanillo, and in Puerto Viejo.

Want to Party? GO TO TOWN!
Puerto Viejo is the center of tourism on Costa Ricas east coast. It is a vibrant thriving town that wakes up at sunset.. Stroll through and listen to music, have a fine dinner or dance in a town known word wide for its party.
It is a working community in the daylight with wonderful restaurants, several grocery stores, two banks, pharmacies and and a medical clinic , along with shops and tour companies.

Live music is abundant .There is reggae, salsa, Worldbeat and rock and roll at night at the beach clubs and town
Try the local cuisine!!!
The Costa Rican favorite Gallo Pinto is a breakfast staple, and Fresh caught local lobsters and whole snapper in estilo caribe are a seafood treat.
While here try some Rondon.(rundown..) a delicious stew like favorite with a joke in its name.)
The Italian food is excellent. There are many vegetarian and vegan restaurants along with a fusion of foods from all over the world. Fresh and healthy food is the norm.
Every tour offered in the eastern half of the country can be booked in and out of Puerto Viejo.
Whitewater rafting is a tourist favorite, unforgettable scenery and great thrills.
Cahuita
National Park and Gandoca Refuge are must sees, Waterfalls, chocolatiers, indigenous villages, ziplines, surfing and snorkeling and wildlife sanctuaries surround us…you would have to stay a year to do it all..
The Jaguar Rescue
Center is a local sanctuary, is extremely educational.
The culture of the Caribe is laid back, with a welcoming one world feel. People of many cultures coexist happily.
GETTING HERE
If renting a car to travel to Dancing Tree, a four-wheel drive will make your vacation hassle free. It will be worth extra cost for the access to places such as parks and remote beaches, many of which have rough roads. .Our hill is steep ,and when wet 4x4 is needed
Some folks don't rent cars and use local tuktuk mini taxis or the bus, which passes by each half hour on the beach road .
The ten minutes walk up to the house is strenuous, so keep that in mind
A stay at Dancing Tree is a one of a kind experience.. It is not a hotel or just a vacation rental...its a rainforest adventure for your family and friends. I guarantee you will be amazed.
Dancing Tree is self-supporting. Our guests rental payments help us pay to preserve the adjacent primary and secondary forest lands.
Without your visits I could not afford to do this.
Habitat is disappearing rapidly, we are intent on trying within our power to help our rare and fascinating jungle neighbours to have a place to be

Pura Vida!

A gem of a place in unique position
Cielomar is an extraordinary place. I have never been so close to nature and the delight of having toucans, monkeys and parrots in the trees around us in the mornings made every breakfast a special occasion. The 27ha preserve (literally the back garden!) gave us immediate access to primary rainforest with trials taking you deep inside, just wonderful. Mixed in with this you have the relative luxury of the pool area with fantastic views of the sea. Wildlife is all around as you swim in the pool with colourful birds and even large iguanas up trees on a couple of days! Be prepared to accept the full experience. This house is in the jungle and there are, of course, plenty of insects and we had a resident snake adjacent to the house (wonderful to look out and easily avoided). The track to the house is not a three lane motorway, its a rough track (4wd definitely needed) that takes you to a privileged position in genuine unspoiled rain forest. Just a joy to stay there and if were not so far from England we'd be back on a regular basis. Jeff, the caretaker, is a lovely guy who knows the area really well and gives very reliable sound advise (and he plays a mean blues guitar!) If you love nature, adventure and something different go there! if you love "formula" beach resorts disneyland and hotel luxury - don't! Williams Family

Tranquil Jungle Haven: A Family Escape into Nature's Embrace
We (two adults and a 4-year-old son) spent seven nights at this accommodation and had a wonderful time. Its natural surroundings and proximity to wildlife made it a true highlight for us. The Jungle Room was undoubtedly the centerpiece of our stay. Here, we not only enjoyed our meals but also had the opportunity to observe the fascinating birdlife and admire the breathtaking views during breakfast and dinner. The pool provided a refreshing escape, especially for our four-year-old son, who made full use of it. Despite sharing the garden and pool area with long-term tenants residing in small houses on the property, we had minimal interactions and were always warmly welcomed. The well-equipped kitchen met our needs, although one should expect the occasional ant finding its way into the house. We missed having a barbecue option. The laundry room was particularly convenient. When the electricity line for the water heater was broke, the prompt response from Property Manager India was impressive. Within a few hours, we had hot water again and felt well taken care of. Additionally, Gardener Solon was extremely accommodating and, despite the language barrier, took us on an exciting tour of the rainforest on the property. Overall, our stay here was fantastic, and we recommend this accommodation.

Great location
Feels like you are in a tree house in the top of the hill. Close to so many restaurants, parks, beaches, and sites of interest. Definitely needed the four wheel drive to make it up the hill but totally doable. We were rarely home because we were so busy seeing all the sites! Great location.

Absolutely Beautiful!
Our vacation at Cielomar was perfect! The grounds were beautifully kept - amazing tropical plants and trees. When we drove up, we were in awe. The house was at the top of a hill where every angle has a view! It has 3 stories, each with it's own balcony. The wildlife is endless! From our balconies and pool, we saw spider monkeys, sloths, toucans, macaws, agouti, frogs, and a hawk that hung around a lot. The house is very cabin like - don't expect to have matching towels and linens. If you want that, go stay at a crowded resort! The house has no A/C, but the fans were perfect! I even got cold at night. All appliances (stove, microwave, washer, dryer) are brand new - I'm pretty sure we were the first to use the oven! From the house, you can easily walk down the drive and to the beach. But if you prefer, there is road parking near the beach path. (We saw a family of monkeys go right over our heads while walking to the beach one afternoon!) The pool was perfect to jump into after the beach. The water was cool and crystal clear! We used the cabana and barbecue pit to grill a few nights. The location is close to wonderful, open air restaurants (We highly recommend Pura Gula! It was delicious!), groceries, and shops. Cielomar really is the perfect place! Tomas, the caretaker, is the BEST! He welcomed us even though it was late at night (Be prepared for a 4.5hr drive from the San Jose airport. It's worth the drive...TRUST ME!). He is super knowledgeable about the area. He talked to us about the wildlife, beaches, restaurants, and even took my son fishing one afternoon! Our stay was made even more enjoyable by having him around! We will be back!

Howdy! I am Kerry McCracken. Welcome to the Dancing Tree Lodge
Mi Casa Es Su Casa!!
I hope you find your stay here magical and enchanting and you carry home some new wonder, knowledge and a memory of a lifetime.
Heres a little about me.
I am a native of Arizona,where I still live.
I am raising a seven year old here so havent been quite able to live the dream personally.
I rarely get to go to Playa Chiquita but am always awestruck when I get there.
Dancing Tree is a place that reminds me ... this world is still full of WONDER!
I am grateful to be able to share the magic with you..
Your rent makes the preservation of critical habitat there possible.
The stewardship of a part of this rare forest has been an experiment in private conservation for me...and it only succeeds because of our guests.
To all those who have helped keep this ecosystem wild, my thanks go out .!!!
Blessings Kerry

Why they chose this property

WILDLIFE LOVE THIS RIDGE!!!!!!Dancing Tree is unique. It is on a high ridge, making it cooler and breezier then the beach zone below. Behind us is undeveloped habitat, making us the choice for wildlife lovers and birders, along with those who love hiking in and through the rain forest.
We are easy walking distance to Playa Chiquita, and a ten minute drive from Punta Uva, hidden away on our secluded mountaintop. A trip to town is fast and easy with all local amenities available, but you can escape back to the woods, even on the most crowded weekends.
Retreat to complete seclusion above it all. Gaze at the Caribbean, birdwatch from the pool and hike through the last ancient primary forests.

What makes this property unique

Most enchanting ocean view on the Caribe.
Cool breezes on our ridge make us five degrees cooler then the beach below!!! Overlooking the canyons of our preserve, you will find our wildlife viewing is as fine as the national parks, without the crowd.

We are close to the beach and village of Playa Chiquita (1/2 mile) and not far from town, yet we are secluded in our own jungle world. Behind us in undisturbed wilderness, in front of us is a lovely Playa Chiquita. our local sweet beach.
Eat dinner under the rancho at the table by the pool, or
have happy hour on the deck.
The shady pool stays cool and refreshing. and the house is surrounded by exotic flower gardens.
Dancing Tree is artsy, whimsical, and comfortable. The views change with the mood of the ocean.
You will be enchanted.
