About Jennie & Neil Riding

Originally from Bolton and Liverpool we loved visiting Cumbria so much we decided to move there. Now we take great pleasure in providing the perfect base for our guests to explore the area we are so passionate about and we are happy to share our recommendations on request.

Jennie & Neil Riding purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Jennie & Neil Riding chose Ravenstonedale

The previous owner did not want to sell when we originally asked him and we went on to look at over 200 properties in the area which didn't measure up. We were beginning to lose hope when we were offered first refusal and of course we snapped their hand off!!

We knew that all the things we loved about the lodges- the fact that they are so private unlike holiday parks, they are walking distance from two pub restaurants, situated close enough to explore the National Parks but far away enough from the maddening crowds, the extensive grounds and beautiful aspect of the site- would also be loved by our guests and they are!

What makes this cabin unique

Our guests are greeted with a welcome tea/coffee tray with cut flowers, fresh milk and a baked treat so you can make yourselves at home straight away. The lodge has been decorated in an individual and luxurious style, think crisp white sheets and big comfy sofas, with the added feature of a private outdoor hot tub on the decking.

Nature provides the outdoor entertainment with red squirrels and sheep putting on a show whilst the vast array of birds, such as curlews, lapwings and song thrush, provide the musical accompaniments. When night falls the star come out for a finale- you can see the milky way on a clear night.

Within the seven acres there is a children's playground and a wildlife pond. For off site adventures there is an folder full of inspiration for days out and pamphlets for local walks, some of which begin right from the doorstep of your lodge. Previous guests' favourite walk is the one mile scenic walk on quiet country lanes down to the village to the two pubs- torches are provided in your lodge if you decide to stay there for a while!

Fantastic holiday!! Cannot wait to go back!

  • 5 out of 5
We spent a fantastic week in August at the Curlew Lodge. We were 4 adults and 2 children and were really impressed with how spacious the lodge is, we were never under each others feet.

The lodge is really well equipped, it has everything you could need and more. It was very clean and decorated beautifully, especially the bedrooms!

The grounds in which the lodge is set are beautiful, getting up in a morning to watch the rabbits hop around and the birds having breakfast was wonderful. The children had such freedom being able to come and go as they please, going on red squirrel hunts and playing over the rope swing was my son's favourite spot! And the hot tub really was the icing on the cake, the kids absolutely loved it as did all the adults!

We had one little problem during our stay with the hot tub needing attention which was sorted out very quickly with no disruption to our holiday at all!

I cannot recommend Artlegarth Country Lodges highly enough, our stay was one of our best holidays and we cannot wait to go back!

Car: recommended

The Eden Valley has unspoilt scenery at every turn which can be enjoyed by participating in a number of outdoor pursuits such as walking, cycling, sailing, fishing or just admired from the comfort of you own car during a leisurely drive, for those preferring to leave the car there are 3 great pubs locally each serving a variety of tasty food, real ales and fine wines. A shop shop in the village, Art Gallery, with public tennis courts, golf and play parks offer plenty to occupy your time. For wildlife lovers there is an abundance of Birds and animals which visit the Lodges, including the rare native red Squirrel which thrive in the area and are frequently spotted playing in and around Artlegarth Country Lodges. In addition The Lake District is a treasure trove of ancient castles, ruins, lakes, caves and mountains (locally know as Fells), all served by quaint villages and bustling market towns. The Lodges are perfectly located for exploring the Lake District National Park & the Yorkshire Dales National Park with its wealth of outdoor pursuits, fine eateries and stunning natural beauty.
