Step into Les Hirondelles and you will immediately sense the tasteful mix of old and new that the owners of properties 6396 and 99874 have created with this their latest house.
Respect has been paid to original features whilst the work of local artisans and use of Farrow and Ball paints and traditional lime-washes have enhanced the freshness and appeal of this unique building.
The living room has a traditional flagstone floor and stone fireplace, painted beams, and an adjoining old fromagerie now clad in wood making an ideal spot for catching up on emails with a desk and internet access. One window looks onto the woods of the neighbouring château whilst the other looks towards the garden. The bathroom is on this level and contains a large walk in shower with handmade Provençal tiles. Just off the living room is a fully equipped kitchen with access to the garden, terrace and swimming pool. An oak staircase leads up to the mezzanine area and double bedroom
which is light and airy with magnificent views of the garden and the Auxois countryside.
The house is detached and has private off-road parking; there is a separate room with a washing machine, dryer and an extra fridge for all those cold drinks! The heat exchange system gives the luxury of warmth in the winter and air conditioning in the summer.
We both came to France one summer for a few weeks work and never looked back! We threw away office work in exchange for a life outdoors in one of the prime regions of Europe. Whilst there are many great regions to visit, it's always wonderful to return to Burgundy.
Bill & Jenny purchased this cottage in 2012
A very rare find for just two people. If we didn't have children and dogs, we'd live here ourselves!
A great house with a private pool and garden yet having wonderful views as well.
We have just returned from our holiday and had to write a review!
This house is absolutely beautiful and finished to the highest standard, with a stunning log fire. It is in a idyllic location, very quiet and perfect for a relaxing long weekend or week away. There is easy access to local towns and big cities like Dijon, which includes a large market. Bill and Jenny are lovely and attentive to all needs. This is a perfect holiday home for anyone who is looking for a relaxing break in a quiet countryside setting.
We will most definitely be returning soon for another break away.
The moment we enterend the house it felt like home! The house is beautiful decorated and everything you need is there. The living room with fireplace is perfect, the kitchen fully equipped with all the stuff you need to prepare the things you like! Bathroom and bedroom just perfect with all the peace and tranquillity you look for. The property is clean and extremely well maintained. Bill really took good care of us and supplied us with all the wood we could burn and gave us perfect recommendations of were to go!. The location is also perfect because it is close to Beaune and Dijon and a lot of places to buy good wine and cheese. A perfect vacation in a more than perfect place!
From the moment we drove up to the exterior of Les Hirondelles, we knew we were in for a treat! A stunning, stylish and superbly appointed property in a quaint and sleepy village.
The décor, furnishings and personal touches are all in keeping with the property's style and age and clearly, no expense has been spared in making this house perfect! The kitchen was so well equipped, even down to an apple corer, rolling pin and pie dish (items which you would never usually find even in the best equipped holiday home!)....enabling us to make a delicious apple and plum pie from the fruit trees in the garden!! Nothing was forgotten or missed when the house was prepared for it's potential clients!
It is off the beaten track without being isolated and delightful scenery is all around, perfect for walking and cycling especially alongside the Canal De Bourgogne.
I have stayed in some fabulous properties over the years but this really is at the top of the quality ladder! Simply Stunning!
Try it...you won't be disappointed. We are certainly going back very soon!
The house was beautifully renovated, retaining much of its original character. The colour scheme and furnishings were all tastefully done and every holiday need was catered for, from the small, but perfectly formed swimming pool, to the two mountain bikes for cycling along the nearby canal path; not to mention the boules, board games, books and dvds. The surrounding countryside was scenic and unspoilt, dotted with picturesque villages reminiscent of the Cotswolds, yet with very few tourists - heavenly! The owners were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend it for a lovely break away from it all, and we would certainly like to stay again!
Braux has about 200 inhabitants and is situated at an altitude of 340 metres just outside the Morvan natural park in the beautiful Auxois region of Burgundy. It’s the perfect place to relax or be active with walking, biking, rock climbing, golf and numerous visits to local sights.....
the village sits on the 120 km Bibracte hiking trail which runs from Alésia to Mont Beuvray, sections of which can easily be walked from the house by following the blue and yellow markers. The village also lies on the Canal de Bourgogne - a waterway which provides the vital link between the English channel and the Mediterranean; alongside the canal the new cycle path provides endless opportunities for exploring - maybe pedal the full 75 kms through the stunning Ouche valley to Dijon or simply bike a short way to the picturesque village of Marigny-le-Cahouet.
The nearest restaurant and café to the house is 4kms away in Pont Royal (accessible along the canal tow path) - get there early as the simple but good food attracts local artisans like bees to a honey pot after midday.
The undiscovered medieval gem of Semur-en-Auxois is a 10 minutes drive away and provides plenty of choice for bars, restaurants & shops.
Nearby places of interest include: Historical sites (13th C Abbaye de Fontenay, Vézelay Basilica, Hospice de Beaune); Chateaux (Commarin, Epoisses, Ancy-le-Franc, Bussy-Rabutin); Medieval towns & villages (Semur-en-Auxois, Flavigny, Châteauneuf-en-Auxois) ; Markets & shopping (Dijon, Beaune, Chablis, Noyers); Morvan National Park, golf & tennis nearby. 5 hour drive from Calais or Zeebrugge. 1 hour TGV train to Paris or Euro Disney direct from Montbard (30 minutes from the house).
