Photos and Description of this 6 bedroom holiday villa in Montone - Large, light, airy villa with private pool and lovely views over the Tiber valley
This large villa, has 6 en-suite bedrooms, sleeping 12/14 people (but can be booked for 6 guests in half the house ) and is in a beautiful position with views of the hill-top town of Montone. Originally a school the building has been sympathetically converted using the traditional materials of the region - hand-made floor tiles, chestnut beams ad ceramics. The result is that the layout, living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms are particularly spacious, giving the house a light and airy feeling.
Casa Tufaia is a lovely home for a family holiday or a large group of friends. It has very spacious rooms,(being a converted school) and is laid out as 2 separate living areas each with 3 en-suite bedrooms, kitchen, living and dining rooms, so can be used as one very large apartment, or as the whole house with 6 bedrooms, 2 kitchens 2 lounges, 2 dining rooms.
There is a large upper terrace overlooking the pool for private sunbathing, reading, and a large garden with 360 degree views of the valley and surrounding countryside.
The village of Promano has a supermarket and bar, but for a larger choice of shops etc, there is Trestina or Umbertide , 4 or so kms where guests will find banks, garages, bakers, butchers, hairdressers and a great variety of restaurants.
Many guests have found the position of the villa to be a perfect base for visiting the well-known towns and cities such as Assissi, Siena, Perugia, Cortona and many others to be discovered during the holiday. We advise guests who want to go further afield such as Rome or Florence to take the train which is inexpensive, no need to find parking, and fun!
There is a local private railway line which runs from Sansepolcro (home of the painter Piero della Francesca) to Perugia, the county town of Umbria with stations in Trestina ad Umbria.
We normally visit guests the day after arrival to give advice if needed, for places to visit which might not be on the normal tourist route, and therefore less crouded (we have lived about 20 mins from the villa for 23 years, so know the area well.) We can also suggest restaurants, from the set meal at 12€ to more sophisticated venues for gourmets or special occasions.
The road is good and the property has automatic gates so is secure and safe for children. The grounds are mostly grassed with flowering plants and many areas for relaxing as well as the area around the pool .
A traditional bread oven can be found near the house and ma ny guests have enjoyed preparing and cooking their home-made pizzas, barbecues as well as using the heat from the oven to cook roasts ,and casseroles.
We can recommend many good places to eat nearby from very inexpensive pizzas to more sophisticated gourmet experiences. One of the best has an imaginative chef who gives cooking lessons for guests who are interested in making their own pasta, bread and delicious fish ,meat and vegetable dishes
The house has all the facilities for giving guests a wonderful, peaceful, interesting and relaxing holiday with enough spaces for reading, games, listening to music without encroaching on other guests' space.
- children welcome
- suitable for elderly
- wheelchair accessible
Further details for this holiday rental
The rooms are unusually large and the house has been sympathetically restored and changed from school to an elegant, typically Umbrian/Tuscan villa wth many spaces apart from the general living areas. As well as the en-suite bathrooms, there are 2 extra cloakrooms one up and one down - especially accomodating when coming in from garden or pool.
Many good restaurants are to be found nearby and in towns of Citta di Castello, Umbertide, and Montone and countless others- all within 30 mins drive.
Our guests enjoy buying the freshest of vegetables and fruit in the local weekly markets - Umbertide, Wednesday - Citta di Castello Thursday and Saturday. There is also fresh fish, locally reared Chianina beef, and Porchetta (A whole boned, roasted pig stuffed with fennel and garlic) -the local speciality can be found in the markets and either eaten in a bread roll or bought by weight or slice for a wonderful lunch with salad back at the villa!
There is a great restaurant nearby with an excellent chef where guests can have a lesson in making pasta, bread or more adventurous dishes - and then eating the result.
A booking will be confirmed on receipt of 50% of the booking cost with the balance due 8 weeks before the holiday
If guests need to cancel the booking for an unavoidable reason like illness etc. we return the deposit/fee or offer new dates for the following year. This has happened only twice in 15 years, the first was because of 9/11 disaster, and the second was a bereavment - both came the following year.
