L'Etoile du Sud is in a tranquil setting of two acres of olive and fruit trees, with stunning views of the village and Maures hills, minutes from the village. If you're looking for somewhere special for family or friends then this is it. Beautiful Provencal villages, St Tropez and beaches 40-45min, vineyards, golf, watersports, horse-riding, family entertainment - all nearby. 1 hour Nice and Toulon airports, Marseille 1hr 20min. HEATED 10 X 5 M Saline pool+electric security cover June-Sept. The villa is furnished and equipped to an extremely high standard for easy home from home type living. It's light and spacious and sleeps 6 people comfortably. Child's z-bed and/or cot also available. Central Heating and duvets for cooler months. SKY TV, DVD Film Library. Stereo system with CD/Cassette (I-pod compatible). Wall safe. Phone for incoming/outgoing calls + FREE WIFI

Sports: The famous Gorge du Verdon offers Canyoning, Rafting Kayaking, sailing and swimming and beautiful sightseeing. The close lake of St Cassien also offers watersports. Bicycles, tennis courts and crazy golf available at Figanieres (5km) and we believe there's a new riding establishment about 1km out of the village. There are at least 8 golf courses within an hours drive. The nearest is the beautiful 18 hole course at St Endreol, La Motte (10-15mins). St Endreol also has a Day Spa with various treatment packages from €80. The Terre Blanche at the Four Seasons Hotel at Fayence (approx 25 mins) is stunning and now reportedly one of the best in the Provence/Cote d'Azur area. A keen golfing client recommended Taulane as one of the most beautiful he's ever played and with wonderful restaurant. In winter Downhill Skiing available at Praloup, Isola 2000 and Auron (2hrs drive) or more locally at Greolieres (45mins). Ever been gliding? Try it at Fayence. Callas has it's own Tourist Office.

Medical: Callas has a medical centre and dentist. The doctor speaks some English. A general hospital with Emergency department is at nearby Draguignan (15-20 minutes). Nearest Pharmacies are at Bargemon (5mins drive) and Figanieres (10 mins drive).

Wine: There are hundreds of wine Domaines in the region. You'll pass 6 or 7 just driving from the motorway to the house. In the villa is a book 'The Top 100 Vineyards in Provence' which is just a tiny fraction of what's available or read what other guests have enjoyed in our visitors wine book. Dame Jeanne in the village has an enviable selection. Plenty of sampling on offer. Try the Maison des Vins at Les Arcs which is laid out like a library of wine from only the Provence region. They have at least a dozen wines on tasting.

We live in the UK and both work in TV production. We found this house in 2003. It was unloved but in a fabulous spot with outstanding views and loads of potential to make it a comfortable home from home which is what we lovingly did.

Heavenly!

In keeping with its celestial name, this place is heavenly - we have just had 11 wonderful days there and loved every minute of it. The villa sits on a hillside overlooking the town of Callas. It is well equipped, very comfortable and offers wonderful indoor-outdoor flow. It is clean and well maintained by Gill, the lovely caretaker. Eating under the mulberry arbour was delightful and late afternoon drinks on the sunny patio became a daily ritual. Being Antipodeans, we made use of the BBQ, purchasing our produce from the local markets- we particularly liked the market in Fayence. The pool is superb - salt-water and heated - it simply entices you to relax, and you can't resist. The village is delightful with a lively and colourful Saturday market. We frequented the friendly local cafe daily for coffee, and ate our pastries there, which we bought from the nearby bakery - just a few minutes walk from the villa. We dined at La Grupie in the village and loved both the food and the friendly service. Callas is a perfect base for exploring local villages, the Riviera and the magnificent Gorges du Verdon. We drove the southern side and took an electric boat ride through the Gorges - utterly amazing, plus we enjoyed the towns of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and Aups. L'Etoile du Sud is definitely a star. Owner's Response: We're thrilled you had such a gorgeous stay at Etoile and that you saw so much of the gorgeous surrounding areas. The Gorges du Verdon truly is spectacular isn't it. Good hint about the electric boat ride, up until now we've only white river rafted which is also amazing, although a little wetter I suspect!

Fantastic, wonderful, brilliant Etoile du Sud!

The villa is very well appointed with 3 good double bedrooms and has fantastic views down towards Callas and across the hills towards the coast. The pool is lovely, and the mulberry tree shaded dining table/BBQ enables full enjoyment of the weather/food/wine of the region. There are good restaurants in Callas, and a Boulangerie for the daily croissant/baguette purchases. The region is growing in reputation for its wines so there are plenty of good wines to taste and drink. We have been back many times and will do again.

Superb!

We had a wonderfully chilled and relaxed holiday at L'Etoile du Sud. The house is so lovely, comfortable and well equipped that it was sometimes hard to leave, even for a few hours! However, there is lots to do in the area and some wonderful restaurants nearby. We played golf at St Endreol - beautiful course and lovely restaurant with great views, shopped at the market in Callas on Saturday morning, visited the vineyards and had a lovely dinner at Le Moulin de Camandoule in Fayance. The highlight though, is the villa and the outside space and those views!! Thanks to Gill for looking after us too. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to others, can't fault it and will be returning soon we hope.

Magnifique!

What a lovely week. The villa has an elegant but homely feel to it, with everything you could ask for, inside and out. The listing description is very accurate - eg, the mattresses are indeed good quality and very comfortable (something often overlooked in rental properties). The manager, Gill, greeted us on arrival, helpfully popping back a couple of days later with a new bottle of gas for the BBQ.

The views from the property are gorgeous, especially down to Callas in the evening when the lights come on in the church bell-tower. There are several outdoor seating areas, including a lovely spot for the dining table, beneath two intertwined mulberry trees, which create both shade and atmosphere. Although we were just two over-worked and over-tired adults (now blissfully relaxed!), we could see that 'Etoile' would work very well for families too.

We enjoyed trips to St Tropez, Seillans, Bargemon, Tourtours (especially) and the glorious 'Grand Canyon of Europe', the Gorges du Verdon (if you keep to the Corniche Sublime route, the driving is not nearly as death-defying as we had feared!).

Dinner at La Grupie in Callas was excellent, and we also enjoyed La Campana in Bargemon and Les Deux Rocs in Seillans. If you're sufficiently organised to book a good week or so in advance (we weren't!), La Pescalune in Bargemon is said to be excellent (owned by the winner of the French equivalent of Masterchef).

All in all, a wonderful, chill-out stay. Highly recommended.

Relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings

Our week in the villa was lovely and we enjoyed beeing there. At the same time it was romantic and childfriendly. Children( seven and nineteen months) and we parents as well, enjoyed the spacious pool. Scenery was magnicifent everywhere you looked and eating all our meals under the mulberry tree was enjoyable. Villa was also so beautiful and the garden as well with its lavander, olive oil trees and rosmary bushes. There was lovely scent from all those things surrounding the garden.

We visited beautiful nearby villages Bargemon and Fayence but mostly stayed at the villa and strolled in Callas.

Shortly, our holiday there was just perfect, shame that we did not rent villa for two weeks. Well we have plans to come next year if possible. Our children already are saying, " When will we go to France again".

Callas is a pretty medieval Provencal village with a grocery, patisserie, post office with 24hr banking, Newsagent, Tourist Office, restaurants, Beauty Salon etc. There's a market in the square every Saturday. Only a 10 min drive is Draguignan, the old capital of the Var, where there is a wider selection of shops and supermarkets. Vineyards and Olive groves abound, creating a beautiful contrast against the Azure skies. Within 45 min you can be in the stylish resorts of St. Tropez, St. Maxime, Antibes or Cannes. There's a choice of sandy beaches, the closest being at St Aygulf or Les Issambres. 45min North you'll discover the spectacular Gorge du Verdon. There's a variety of golf courses within an hour's drive, St Endreol with Day Spa being only 15 minutes. For children there are Waterparks, Zoos, crazy golf, village playground etc. Or, hire a bike, take a beautiful walk, or sit and do nothing but drink in the quiet, the views and the wonderful local wines. It's a special place.
