Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Pooley Bridge - Sarah's Cottage

Sarah's Cottage, Pooley Bridge With Stunning Riverside Garden

This beautifully renovated Lakeland Cottage features the most idyllic gardens which stretch down to the River Eamont which in turn leads onto Ullswater Lake. The end terrace cottage is situated at the end of a quiet lane with a selection of three vibrant village pubs, riverside tearooms, a village store/post office and specialty shops within two minutes walking distance.

This stunning cottage has been completely refurbished to the highest standard, offering a fantastic base from which to explore Pooley Bridge, Ullswater and beyond. There is a fantastic selection of walks directly from the cottage to suite all levels of ability. The shores of Lake Ullswater are only a few minutes’ walk. You can watch ducks, swans and if you’re lucky, the odd heron or maybe even trout from the cottages private river frontage which overlooks Pooley Bridge.

Sit back and relax in the contemporary lounge in front of a real wood burning stove, admiring the beautiful gardens from the full length windows which can be opened fully on warmer days so the cottage literally spills into the garden, perfect for al-fresco dining. Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the gardens from the stunning summer house with comfortable L shaped sofa with truly mesmerizing views towards the river and the adjoining fields.

Sarah’s Cottage is a truly unique Lakeland hideaway that offers quaint yet luxurious accommodation in the heart of the Lakes yet is less than ten minutes away from the M6 Motorway and the busting town of Penrith. The cottage features a master bedroom with king size bed, spacious bunk room and an unusual mezzanine attic room with a further king size bed.

There is so much to do here, no matter what the weather is like. Take a scenic walk along the lake shore and catch the steamer boat back or relax in one of the three village pubs. Explore the lake in your own boat or canoe which can be launched from the garden or rent a boat from the lake shore. You could explore the nearby fells or take an easy walk along the River Eamont. You can also climb Dunmallard Hill, directly opposite the cottage, keeping an eye out for wild deer and admiring the daffodils and bluebells in spring.

The vibrant town of Penrith is only six miles away. Here you can find a large selection of specialist shops as well as high street brands and major supermarkets, a sports centre with modern, indoor pool, cafes, bars, restaurants and much more. Rheged is a unique attraction in itself and is only four miles away. Here you will find quirky shops and cafes, a 3D cinema, indoor soft play and activities for kids such as pottery and cooking, an outdoor fort, galleries and more.

About Chris Nixon

Sarah's Cottage was purchased from the legacy of Sarah Nixon who tragically passed away at only 38 years old, only two months after giving birth to her third child, Poppy. Sarah also left behind her son Oliver (5), other daughter, Sophia (3) and husband, Chris.

Sarah was a truly inspirational lady and her untimely death was widely reported in regional press and national magazines.

Chris wanted to invest Sarah's modest estate for her children and after considering other investments, came across a beautiful Lakeland cottage with stunning gardens stretching down to the River Eamont at Pooley Bridge.

The cottage is available for rent for selected periods throughout the year.

Why Chris Nixon chose Pooley Bridge

Sarah and Chris often visited the Lake District, especially when the children came along and many good memories were made there over the years.

Upon stumbling across this unique cottage by chance, Chris could see the potential to create a beautiful holiday home where he and the children could escape to many weekends. If Sarah was still alive, she would have loved this place and it just felt so right to rename the cottage to Sarah's Cottage after renovating it. Sarah's legacy will enable her children, family and friends to enjoy many happy holidays there. The cottage is also available to rent for selected periods of the year with the proceeds being invested for Sarah's children.

From time to time, the cottage will also be raffled and auctioned in aid of Cancer Research UK. Within three months of renovating the cottage, over £3,000 has been raised for charities.

Pretty little cottage in a quaint village

  • 5 out of 5
The cottage was exactly as described. Everything was decorated beautifully and although the space is limited it was used very well. The garden and summer were excellent the river view was stunning. All the necessary equipment was there in the kitchen and so it was really convenient for families with children. Pooley Village was really nice and had a couple of shops to buy almost everything you may need. Ullswater was simply beautiful with some really stunning walks around Howtown and Glenridding as well as Aria Waterfalls. Chris' restaurant recommendations were excellent and in particular we would recommend the Yanworth Gate Inn and Queens Head Inn. Overall an excellent holiday destination.
