Yours hosts Jacquie and Stephen look forward to welcoming you to their home and introducing you to the comforts of the lovely new apartment.
Originally from England we spent 14 years living in Alberta, Canada in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Now our home is in Rapino, a rural and traditional town perfectly situated between the mountains and the Adriatic sea.
Stephen is looking forward to a more relaxing lifestyle after spending most of his career in Law Enforcement, in the UK with the Police and in Canada the Alberta Sheriffs. During this time he was a Personal Protection Officer (Bodyguard) for the Royal Family and then for the Government of Alberta so you know you will be safe in his home!
Jacquie has worked in the hospitality industry for many years and for the past few years has been involved in the wine business. After years in high quality hotels your comfort at the Majella Garden is her priority. She is also happy to discuss the wines available locally.
Jacquie and Stephen Rood purchased this apartment in 2013
After looking and exploring all the regions of Italy we found ourselves drawn the the central area of Abruzzo. Researching the lifestyles, climate and location to the sea and the mountains Rapino was an easy choice. We both enjoy winter and summer activities and therefore being so close to Mamma Rosa and Passo Lanciano skiing and snowboarding is a simple day trip. The lovely beaches along the Adriatic coastline provide us with our summer leisure which we hope to share with our guests.
The property is quite different for a mountain village, we are fortunate to have a fairly flat 'lot' therefore the garden has plenty of room for us to develop plants, vegetables, trees and there still be space to lounge under the walnut trees!
Our home consists of a 2 storey house, just the right amount of space for the two of us and a couple of guests. Attached at the rear of the house is the brand new self contained holiday apartment. We have developed this from scratch, no expense has been spared with the interior furnishings and decor.
The moment we entered the house we knew we had found the exact property for our future plans.
The roof top terrace, great south facing views of the Majella Mountains and in particular Mamma Rosa. The terrace has been refurbished with lovely Italian tiles and hand crafted iron railings with stairs leading down to the garden giving our guests in the apartment access. We are within easy walking distance of grocery stores, bars and restaurants and there are plenty of walks and cycling opportunities directly from the house, no need to drive anywhere.
The Adriatic coastline is long and has many beaches, some free some having facilities so therefore a daily or weekly rate is charged. The sea is lovely and even early in the season the water is not too cold!
Equally close are the ski areas, Passo Lanciano and Mamma Rosa; on the way you will pass the wolf sanctuary and this is definitely worth a stop.
We do recommend a car unless you are planning your stay in Rapino with no day trips, there are buses but not very frequent and limited destinations.
For our guests staying in the cooler months the apartment has full gas central heating and if the sun is limited and the solar panels are not in full force then there is always hot water available from the mains gas.
We just spent 5 fabulous days at the terrific apartment owned by Stephen and his and his lovely wife Jacquie. The apartment was immaculate, cosy and as beautiful as its pictures. It is in a great location, within easy walking distance to town and two very good restaurants nearby. We especially enjoyed the large rooftop terrace, with its spectacular view of the Maiella mountains. Jacquie and Steve are very hospitable and constantly met and exceeded every need we could have imagined. They made us feel right at home. We came as guests and left as friends.
We had such a great time that we were very sorry to leave. We highly recommend Maiella garden apartment to anyone who is interested in exploring all that the area has to offer. We will surely be back!
presence of owner living just next door become essential for our stay. their care starting from making easier to find address at our arrival to deliver us by fresh vegetables and actual maps of surroundings was well balanced with respect to our privacy. property was furnished in modern way and was absolutly clean and quiet. spatial garden was at our disposal. the place is recommended especially for those who look for authentic and romantic Italien inland with good acces to the sea and mountings. however car is very handy. rapino, town where apartement is located is a genuine sample of traditional life of small town which is still harmonised with settlement and country. we loved our stay and only regret we could not stay longer. Peter, Jana and Teo.
Having heard about Abruzzos contrasting mountain; villages and beaches we decided to go explore ! ... We were not disappointed ... from our base in the quaint rural town of 'Rapino' we visited the peak of Majelletta mountain in only 25 minutes drive away !
Over the week we also visited the towns of Guardiagrele; Vacri; Fossacesia; Pescara and Chieti as well as some 5 different beaches. Namely Ortona Marina; Francavilla Al Mare; Silvi; Pescara and Fossacesia all of which were between 30 and 60 minutes drive away from Rapino.
We tended to visit an area each day ending up on the beach.
Majella Garden ... located in the heart of the small town ... with a garden allowing sun from earky morning to late evening.
What we liked apart from the real life community were the extras offered with Majella Garden ... The apartment is new ... it has fly screens on every window
so allowing plenty of air and fly free ... wide access shower with seat and jets ...washing machine ...hair dryer ... wifi ... large refrigerator ... plenty of outside drying access in the garden ... clothes horse ... iron & ironing board.
The owners Jacquie & Steve were so helpful and accommodating ... perfect.
Majella gardens was in the perfect location for us - very peaceful, with many walks nearby through the beautiful countryside and up into the mountains yet just half an hour away from the beaches of the Adriatic Coast, like Ortona and Francavilla al Mare. Jacquie & Stephen helped us plan our walks, recommended several wineries to visit and generally made sure that we lacked for nothing.
We drove up the Majelletta mountain and to the local ski resort, Passo Lanciano, and are now contemplating a short ski trip in the winter.
The apartment was very well equipped and tastefully furnished; beautiful views from the terrace up to the mountains. When we didn't fancy cooking, there were a number of restaurants within walking distance. All in all, a great holiday destination.
The apartment was extremely well laid out and we wanted for nothing. We felt very comfortable and the apartment felt like home for the duration of our stay. It has been very tastefully decorated and furnished superbly. Jacquie and Stephen were the perfect hosts, made us feel very welcome and were helpful in giving us information about the local area. Rapino is a typical Italian village with lots of bars, good restaurants and lovely walks. We will certainly return again.
We had been to Venice and Florence before coming to Majella Garden and we found Majella Garden to be the true experience of Italy. The location was absolutely beautiful. Located at the bottom of the mountains and only half an hour from the sea with amazing beaches. It was beyond our expectations. The apartment was lovely and very private. The views from the terrace were amazing. Jacquie and Steve were great hosts.
We visited towns/villages nestled in the countryside where we experienced a great festival. Good food and dancing. We went for lunch and wine tasting at a vineyard named Fattoria Licia that I would recommend to everyone.
I would recommend that anyone visiting Italy should stay at Majella Gardens and have the true authentic Italy experience that we had.
Thank you Jacquie and Steve.
This is the perfect outdoor holiday location. We are an all season holiday property, with gas central heating for the cooler winter months and a large garden and terrace to enjoy day and evening throughout the year.
There are several restaurants in Rapino within walking distance all serving excellent Abruzzese cuisine.
