About Steve Gold

I'm a filmmaker who travels frequently between New York and Los Angeles and I enjoy stopping in Tubac to re-charge..

Steve Gold purchased this condo in 2006

Why Steve Gold chose Tubac

I wanted a desert home that I could enjoy myself and also share with guests. It had to be serene, beautiful yet have a community feeling. Tubac fit the bill. I fall in love with this place again and again each time I come to stay.

What makes this condo unique

Each morning in the winter I light the patio fireplace and have my coffee watching the sun create a glow around the Santa Rita Mountains. Tubac is a great place to commune with nature while taking advantage of the many activities the area offers -- walking, hiking, biking, horseback riding, tennis, golf. Visit one of the two local spas or watch a DVD on our wide screen TV. Tubac is a true vacation spot in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Plus the high altitude affords cooler summers and warmer winters than most of Southern Arizona.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Your town home is situated in one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The website description and photos did not do it justice. We really enjoyed our time there, wish it were longer. The home is fully equipped as you promised. Just like home.

Seeking sun and relaxation

Excellent vacation condo!! Clean, everyting kitchen utensil we needed, great sky terrace for evening meals, and the pool was awesome. The owner was great to deal with...and the rental office as well. Met some really nice neighbors, who gave us some local attractions to see. We had a great time!

Great Home-base

  • 5 out of 5
We think your great condo is beautifully furnished and the best location in the complex, in terms of view, privacy, easy access... i.e. everything. We loved exploring the unique shops in Tubac, taking a day-trip to Bisbee (mine tour, hillside steps, antique and art stores, Tombstone, Fairbank, Patagonia), visiting Nogales, and hiking to the lookout at the top of the Anascosa Trail. We also enjoyed walking the De Anza Triail to Tumacacori, and using your cruisers for quick bike-rides to Tubac. The upper patio was a great place for early breakfasts and sunset dinners, and we generally had the pool and hot-tub to ourselves after a busy day. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful home Steve!

Springtime in Tubac

  • 5 out of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay--especially the upper deck and summer kitchen. The
furnishings were lovely and the kitchen had everything we needed. We found it to be well
located, too. We were within a reasonable distance to attend my nephew's graduation at U
of A but so happy to return "home" to the quiet and beauty of Tubac.

Seemed like home.

  • 5 out of 5
We really enjoyed our stay this year in your Tubac condo. Everything was so well appointed, organized and clean. We couldn't have been more pleased with our accommodations. Also, the location was very convenient for walking to restaurants and shops, as well as the wonderful pool and common areas. We especially enjoyed using the bicycles and the spectacular views from the sky porch. We are already looking forward to our return next winter to our home away from home in sunny southern Arizona.

A Desert Delight

  • 5 out of 5
We enjoyed 9 wonderful days in this special desert setting. The accommodations were wonderful, well appointed and gave a true feeling of being "home". We felt like we "owned" it and had lived there forever, almost immediately. The decor was tastefully done in every room, down to the finest detail. Everywhere you looked was like "candy to the eye". We knew we were "home" in Arizona.

We particularly enjoyed the outside "lookout" area up the winding staircase just outside the front door on the enclosed private first level patio. On high, the view of the Santa Rita mountains was simply magnificent. Daily, we spent time reading or simply gazing, absorbing the internal theraputic affects from our surroundings. There was a nice table with 4 chairs, an outside gas grill and wet bar. We cooked steaks out on two nights and had a nice dinner as the sun sat in the west, with glimpses of an early rising full moon in the east. Worthy of a wine toast as a wonderful day faded into night.

We enjoyed Tubac village but did not spend a lot of time perusing the many wonderful and eclectic shops found there - it's just "not our thing". An afternoon trip was taken to Arivaca and the Buenos Aires reserve for an interesting loop through a remote wetland wilderness. Though it was touted as a great place for birding, few of any interest were seen...the only exception was a nude jogger some 60+ years old - we decided it must have been the proverbial "Jay Bird"...We enjoyed a trip to Sonoita and Patagonia. The drive was scenic and peaceful. Highly recommend lunch/dinner at The Cafe in Sonoita. Great wine country that we will spend time with on our next adventure, when we return in the future. A trip to the nearby old mission at Tumacacori will not disappoint!

The Market in Tubac Village is excellent for nice cuts of meats and fresh fish, with many nice choices. Apparently they receive fresh shipments beginning Wednesdays...don't go on Tuesday expecting availability - you will be disappointed! Pastries were equally wonderful. Nice beer and wine selections. It is rather pricey to shop for the week there, so we suggest a nice drive down to Nogales - exit 4. Take a left and you'll find a Safeway just down the road on your right. Excellent prices, especially on wines and spirits.

The owner was very attentive for any needs we had - large or small. We will NOT hesitate to return at anytime in the future. It was indeed..."very cool"!

Notes:
The town home is on a corner lot so there are unobstructed views of the Santa Rita Mountains from every window and terrace, a 27-hole championship golf course is available to our guests at Tubac Golf Resort & Spa which is just minutes away. The original 18 were designed by Red Lawrence, the famed Desert Fox. Local course architect Ken Kavanaugh added nine new holes in 2006 that have been seamlessly woven into the original track. The tree lined fairways run tree to green, making the course both challenging and eminently playable for golfers of all skill levels. And with 27 holes, there are always at least 18 open. The excellent course - fully stocked golf shop and friendly staff will make playing Tubac the highlight of your vacation in our town home.
