About this property

Peaceful Rural Stay in beautiful flat within an estate with salt-water pool

A peaceful stay in your high quality and fully equipped 'second home'. Immersed in a secluded garden with wonderful views of century old olive trees, pine garden and palm trees, you are at the heart of an the olive farm with our own extra virgin olive oil free for you to use. Diddy's Country is strategically well placed a short drive away from many beautiful towns. You are also right at the start of 'Trulliland' with the first trulli's to be seen after just a couple of kilometres from the house.
The flat occupies the whole first floor of a rural villa and you have access to the swimming pool and toddler pool, most of the gardens and groves. The first floor has it's own huge terrace with custom made sun roof, evening drinks area and it's own big Weber BBQ. The terrace is very romantic in the evenings. The flat consists of a master bedroom with a doube-size bed, a big wardrobe, a TV and a two-seater sofa, the flat has also got a separate bathroom with shower, a second bedroom with a very stable bunk bed (top bed 70cm wide x 200cm long, bottom bed 80cmx200), and the possibility to add a third (proper) bed or a wooden or travel cot bed (depending on availability). The cot bed can also be placed in the master bedroom (we also had twin babies staying). The two bedrooms are off the kitchen, which also features a dining table for cooler evenings. The flat has got no living room, the terrace is it's living room, hence the flat is not suitable for the cooler months! The flat has been furnished with high quality furniture and kitchen items such as designer furniture, reclaimed furniture, stokke chair, Nespresso machine (with up to 30 free nespresso capsules per week), Nespresso cappuccino maker, Dualit toaster and kettle, Alessi Glases, artisan-made plates; utensils such as WMF cutlery and knifes and other cooking utensils, and other brands include Bodum, and Joseph. In the kitchen you will find our own extra-virgin olive oil for you to use (it comes from the century-old trees you see around you), coffee and tea, a pack of pasta and one tomato passata to start your holiday in style. We will also leave a bottle of wine or prosecco as a welcome. Basics such as salt, sugar, vinegar are also available. Your towels are from Frette for Adults and Orla Kiely for juniors, there are thin cotton hamam towels for the beach and sports towels for the tennis. There is a beautifully soft baby alpaca blanket to make you feel really cosy on cooler evenings.
The flat has it's own flat screen TV with cable TV (foreign chanels), microwave, washing machine, dishwasher and a cool "Bose" blue-tooth boom box for streaming your own music with quality sound, even when you are on the terrace.
The property has many fruit trees and we plant seasonal vegetables every year; if available in abundance, you are welcome to pick your own, such as tomatoes, figs and plums in the summer and oranges in the winter months.
We can give you access to the wood-fired pizza oven and free wood, however, this needs to be pre-arranged with the owner.
There is a tennis court with flood lights, changing room and showers. Rackets and balls are also available in the changing room. There are lots of other balls available in the changing room such as footballs, beach volley balls, basket balls.
The salt-water infinity pool is open from Easter to end of October (season can be extended upon request, but the pool is not heated, there is a plan to heat it for 2018). The use of the pool is at your own risk, please do not run on the solarium (can be slippery when wet) and no diving (pool only 140cm deep).

You are welcome to use the trampoline, but please note, this is at your own risk. The trampoline is on the playground and surrounded by safety standard river stones, but please be vigilant at all times, the trampoline has no net because of the heat. Adult supervision is highly recommended. The playground also features a mud-kitchen for our smaller guests, merry-go-round, swings, slide and our own dinosaur!

The property is just off the most amazing cycling path that can take you all the way to Brindisi for example.
Old bicycles can be borrowed free of charge with owners pre-approval. There are bicycles and other ride-ons such as pedal go-carts available for kids of all ages. Kids can use the internal roads with care (guests parking cars).

A parking spot has been allocated for our guests' cars and more parking space for our guests' guests is also available.

There is an exclusive al-fresco dining area for Piccinnu just in front of the stairs to the apartment. The "Aia" used to be the area where wheat would be dried and beaten to collect the grains for the winter. It is covered by a beautiful wisteria with thick green leaves in the summer. This is a cooler area to have breakfast of lunch.

The property is approximately a 20 minutes drive away from Brindisi airport or 1 hour away from Bari airport. It will take you 15 minutes to drive to the local beaches of Torre Guaceto, Specchiolla or Torre Santa Sabina and many beautiful towns are within easy reach: the world-renowned 'white city' of Ostuni and the culinary centre of Ceglie Messapica are just 20 minutes drive away. The amazing villages of the 'trulli-shire' area of Valle D'Itria, such as Alberobello, Cisternino and Martina Franca, are also close-by. The remains of the Roman city of Egnazia and its interesting museum is also close-by. The historical and culinary treasures of the Bari, Brindisi and Lecce would surely warrant a day trip even if they are only up to 1 hour away. Otranto is another amazing town not to be missed and Santa Maria di Leuca, at the tip of the heel, will transport you directly to the Caribbean. Likewise the amazing waters and varied coastline of the Adriatic and Ionian seas, where crystalline waters contrast with either golden sandy beaches or rough and unspoiled rocky spots!
Discover the cultural and culinary attractions of the coast, Valle d'Itria and Salento and don't forget San Vito's own treasured food specialised food shops such as the 'Slow Food' rated Caseificio Lanzilotti (cheeses and mozzarellas) where you can find the wastes and most succulent choice of mozzarellas and the likes you have ever seen. San Vito also has it's own amazing pasta producer and an incredible gelateria!

Unless guests plan to spend their stay at the property, for guests arriving by plane or train it is highly recommended to hire a car for the duration of the stay.

Beautiful setting, amazing facilities, loved every minute of our stay here.
We had the most amazing stay at Diddys’s Country. The flat was perfect for our family of four, and everything you could possibly need was provided for - including many high quality designer items. Our children particularly appreciated the toys that were provided and we liked that we didn’t need to bring any of the baby paraphernalia with us on the plane! The facilities on site are fantastic, and we could have easily stayed at home all week. The pool was stunning, and our children also really enjoyed the carts, little park and mud kitchen. The house is close to some really interesting and beautiful places, and we really appreciated all the handy hints on the best local shopping from Alexandra. Communication with Alexandra was fantastic throughout, as was with Pamela whilst in Italy. We could not have asked for better hosts and they have created a very special place where everything has been thought of. We do hope to return!

A brilliant holiday: fun for kids and relaxing for adults!
We had a great stay at Diddy’s Country in the two bedroom apartment for a week in August 2017. The hosts have created a welcoming, beautiful, fun and relaxing place, with exceptional attention to detail. All the furnishings and fittings are excellent quality, and the new swimming pool is very beautiful and a joy to swim in. The apartment has a comfortable double bedroom, a bed with bunk beds, a sit-in well equipped kitchen, a modern shower room, and a lovely terrace with seating. Everything was incredibly clean. We had good contact via message with the owner Alexandra, and in person with Pamela who looks after the property and couldn't have been friendlier. The hosts’ generosity extended to Nespresso pods to last our whole week’s stay, charcoal and wood for the BBQ, and being able to help ourselves to ripe fruit and vegetables growing in the garden. Pamela even lit the fire in the outdoor pizza oven for us one day so we could try our hand at making our own pizzas. But Diddy’s Country’s major selling point is its provision for children. Our 5 year old daughter had a brilliant time swimming in the pool, riding around on the go carts, playing in the outdoor ‘mud kitchen’ and jumping on the trampoline. Also playing with the trucks, lego and games indoors. This goes so far beyond the usual high chair and plastic plates level of child friendliness! We felt like we had the facilities of a whole campsite or hotel complex, but for just two properties: our apartment and the downstairs 5 bedroom villa - an incredible luxury! The location feels very rural, but is only a couple of kilometres from a nearby town and good supermarket. Its around a 20 minute drive to beaches. To be honest, we hardly left, as there was so much to enjoy at Diddy’s Country.

A wonderful place to stay in Puglia
We had a wonderful time at Diddy's Country. The apartment is beautifully designed and equipped and is very comfortable. It had everything we needed, plus home produced olive oil and local pasta. The terrace is a great spot to sit outside, and the garden and the grounds are lovely, with fresh figs, tomatoes and herbs. We enjoyed trips to the nearby beaches, the caves at Castallana, and towns such as Polignano and Lecce. We also liked the pasta shop, with its many different varieties of fresh and dried pasta, and the cheese shop, with local specialities, in the nearby town. Alexandra, Alessandro and their family were fantastic hosts and we would recommend a stay here.

A place with a soul
If places of one's soul ever exist, surely this is one of them. Its peaceful location, where the garden gives way to the olive tree grove without a break in continuity, the elegant simplicity of the villa and its secluded position instil a sense of calm and well-being. From this good country retreat it's easy to reach the nearest village, the dunes and the sea, as well as the most picturesque places of Puglia. Diddy's country has a perfect position for always fascinating itineraries among the Byzantine, Norman and Baroque arts, but also for refined music events and flokloristic and gastronomical discoveries. If you meet the people who made Diddy's Country so snug and enjoyable, you will understand why this place has a soul.

A great place in the Puglia countryside
Diddy's country is not just a very nice villa, with every comfort, beautifully located in the heart of the Puglia countryside. It's a place where I find everything that makes me feel well, thanks to its wonderful view of the flowers and of the olive trees surrounding the house as far as the eye can see, but also to the nice sandy beach and the transparent sea that can be easily reached from there. I enjoy spending my days at the sea side, and then relax in the fresher air of the countryside. This make my pace slow down so much that it is hard to decide to devote some time to the visit of the nearest towns, and there are plenty of, though! I always enjoy visiting Alberobello's “Trulli”, the white hill of Ostuni, Oria (with its “Palio” horse race in August), Grottaglie with its ceramic's laboratories, Cisternino (worth of a tour in the evening to enjoy the food specialties in its peculiar restaurants!), just to mention some of them. There's not a better place to recharge my batteries during the holidays!

About the host

Host profile image
The property has been in our family for at least 5 generations, and we, as the next generation, took it on in 2006, even though we live in London and don't get to go as much as we would like to. We do visit about 3 times a year during UK school holidays and especially spend the whole summer there. Alessandro grew up in Brindisi and spent his holidays and weekends at Diddy's Country, roaming the fields with his friends during the hot lunch hours. Traditionally the family would spend the morning at the beach, come back for lunch, rest and spend the afternoon and evenings at the property. A lot of beaches are very well equipped and some also have a basic restaurant. There are some nice restaurants on the beach front as well. Italians would typically go back home for lunch or bring a pick-nick to the beach, they would only occasionally go to the restaurant.

Why they chose this property

We decided to buy the family's estate so that we could give our kids some sense of freedom and adventure. We also believe that the home grown food, fresh air and beach will give them the necessary strength for the winter months in the UK. We believe that the beach is very good for them and therefore never built a swimming pool for fear of not going down to the beach anymore but have now built a pool for our guests. We love to do sightseeing every year with the kids and friends, there is such a breath of beautiful historic towns, scenic beaches and tourists attractions. The kids can grow up learning about nature, picking fruits and vegetables, seeing and interacting with animals (we have one cat that lives outside and gets fed by us). Remember this is countryside, animals come and go on the property, in fact, we seem to be rescuing animals every year!

What makes this property unique

This property is set in the midst of olive groves, and our property has about 200 olive trees of which about 100 are century-old olive trees. The salt-water infinity pool is new and the stones for the wall came out of our ground. The solarium stones are from a local "Cava" in Ostuni. The gardens are beautiful and there are many flowers everywhere, you are very welcome to pick the seasonal fruits and vegetables. The views from the flat's terrace are endlessly beautiful. You can follow the sun setting and at night the skies are very clear for star gazing and seeing shooting stars. The house itself has grown over generations from a small traditional farmhouse from the late 1800s to what it is today.
