Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Aylesbury Vale - Field House, Marsworth

Three Bedroom, Two Bathroom With Canal Views

Field House is a three bedroom holiday cottage, by the Grand Union Canal, in the pretty village of Marsworth, 2 miles to the market town of Tring, which offers leisure and shopping.

Tring Railway station has trains to London in forty minutes.

There are also plenty of activities in the area, including Whipsnade Zoo, Waddesdon Manor, Oxford and the Tring Zoological Museum, all within 30/40 minutes' drive.

Field House was built in 1961 and is a Colt House. The Queen has several Colt houses on her Sandringham estate and they are built of natural materials. The ground floor is brick built and the upper floor is timber, faced with cedar wood. It is a warm and comfortable house and we hope you will enjoy its particular atmosphere and feel at home there.

The property is laid out over two floors, with sitting room, bedrooms and two bathrooms on the first floor, and kitchen/dining room, utility and garden room, coats cupboard and toilet on the ground floor.

The kitchen/dining room has a dining table with seating for five, as well as a well-equipped preparation area. There is a full size dishwasher, microwave, double electric oven, electric hob and fridge/freezer. The utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer.

The garden room has a large sofa, chest of drawers, garden chairs and cushions and access to the garden and patio area. As you go up the spiral staircase, you arrive at the first floor sitting room with doors to a balcony. Both have lovely views over the canal and garden below. There are two double sofas and an armchair, for your comfort, with flat screen TV and DVD player for your entertainment. There is also an electric fire, which gives off a warm glow on winter evenings.

The three bedrooms are made up of a double, a twin and a single bed, with an extra cot if required. Bedroom one has a four foot six double bed, chest of drawers and wardrobe. Bedroom two has three foot twin beds, drawers and wardrobe and bedroom three has a single bed and a cot, with wardrobe and chest of drawers.

There is one shower room, with shower cubicle, and one bathroom, with corner bath and shower over. Both have heated towel rails, toilet and basin.

Heating is by electric storage heaters and an electricity allowance of £20 per week is included in the rental, which should be plenty to keep the property warm, with sensible usage.

Outside there is a large enclosed garden which faces onto the canal, although the driveway is un-gated. There is also a patio area next to the house with garden furniture. There is space for two cars to park in front of the property. The driveway down to this parking is un-gated.

The property has broadband, and a pay phone.

Nice stay with familly

  • 5 of 5

We were there with 2 families (3 children and 4 adults) It was a very enjoyable stay. The house has all that is needed with nice garden / WLAN etc. And it was a pleasure to see the English landscape while still having easy access to London by train. Beside going to London we enjoyed the following local activities:

- walking, jogging just from the house along to the Grand Union canal

- visiting a nice pub a few meters from the house

- visiting Bletchley Park and Oxford (by car)

and surely there are many more things to do in the area. It is recommendable to rent a car for the stay (also needed to go from the house to the train station).

Fantastic house

  • 5 of 5

We came from Switzerland and stayed a whole week in the field house! It was such a wonderful stay and the house was beautifully decorated and functional. Everything we might have needed was there! the location is fantastic and the garden was a dream come true! The children loved running around and enjoyed the house and the garden immensely. We especially loved the upstairs living with the wonderful views over the canal and the sunsets! We will go back!!

Great location and that's all.

  • 1 of 5

This was a huge disappointment for us. The house IS in a great location. The canal and the views even in the winter are terrific and there's The Red Lion across the street. (Atmosphere and beer good, food not so). Howevet the house (apart from the new double glazed windows) is old and poorly maintained. It's as if someone has started a refurbishment then stopped. Where to start? The kitchen is awful. The stove works...just. The fridge is tiny. The dishwasher works. The carpentry seems to have been done by a five year old. Random nails (painted over) stick out of the walls. The cutlery drawer spilled on the floor after first use because there's no 'stop'. the dining room is adequate. The downstairs garden room has water stains on the ceiling and garden chairs (!!) as furniture. The spiral staircase is a death trap. Upstairs the bedrooms are adequate size. The double bed is tiny and the mattress worn out. The blue carpet is old and worn. The TV is as big as a computer monitor. My daughter and her fiance left after a week because they couldn't get comfortable with anything including the work-when-you-want-to plumbing.

We have used Let's Unlimited before and were impressed with the accommodation they offered - clean, modern and functional. This property was none of those. If I could get my money back I would.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, we are sorry that this property has not met your expectations especially as are have a regular LU client. We value our clients feedback and have reported your comments to the owner of the property who is looking positively at your recommendations Field House has been popular and we have had repeat bookings because of the location and the setting, it is also very competitively priced. We had hoped that the photos accurately reflected the property but note that there are no photographs of the kitchen, we will add these. The owner is considering replacing the kitchen but they are looking for the right design as it is a small space. We hope to welcome you again and please contact us if we can offer any help with further bookings.

Bit of a disappointment

  • 3 of 5

For location, it was perfect and everything it claimed to be, and it was very clean however the property itself was disappointing for us because inside was so dated. It was in desperate need of modernising, especially the kitchen. The garden room could have been lovely but it was again, in desperate need of a makeover. To some, the property might be considered quirky but to us it was enough to question the value of the weeks stay.

Marsworth is a lovely village within two miles of Tring, a market town on the edge of the Chilterns. The property is right on the canal, offering lovely walks. There is also a day boat hire company a few miles along the canal, where you can hire a boat for the day. The property also offers easy access to lots of places of interest, including London, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bicester Village Retail outlet, National Trust Waddesdon Manor, Whipsnade Safari park and is about an hour and a half from the Cotswolds, for a day trip.
