As lofty and white as a cloud, Cranley Place III will leave you giddy. This home is calm and tranquil, with soft fabrics, clean lines and just the occasional stroke of intense colour – its vaulted ceilings and simple décor a refreshing antidote to the bustling city pavements below. For this is one of London’s most illustrious neighbourhoods: step out from between the pillars either side of your front door and you’ll find yourself within moments of the museums and Kensington Gardens, and equidistant from the glorious boutiques of Kensington, Chelsea and Knightsbridge.
Your hostess spends much of her time in Devon and the New Forest. Indeed, while she adores London, she cannot abide feeling cramped. It is this longing for space that led her to Cranley Place III, where she luxuriates beneath its beautiful beams.
There’s something of an upstate elegance to this home, painted in shades of pearl and elephant’s breath, and the contemporary furniture, including the crushed velvet sofa, is as suited to the Hamptons as it is to central London. Ghost chairs stand alongside a refined ornamental fireplace in the sitting room, while the contemporary kitchen shimmers in graceful metallics.
Both bedrooms are immaculate – the master is simply furnished with a copper-toned chair and a single, exotic painting, and the double is particularly feminine and devoid of distraction.

Distending from the tube station to the museum quarters on Cromwell Road/Exhibition Road and the graceful streets and private gardens in between, South Ken packs in moon rocks at the Science Museum and rock oysters at the Bibendum bar in an effortless swoop.
The museums (V&A, Natural History, Science Museum and Baden-Powell House) form part of the heritage from the Great Exhibition of 1851.
Exploring all the nooks and crannies of these institutions would take months, and require the spirit of the intrepid Victorian explorers who brought home many of the treasures here, but even a quick dip in the tapestry-hung walkways of the V&A or a gaze at how small the lander that brought Armstrong and Aldrin to the moon really is at the Science Museum, provides enough stimulation to last a whole day.
The streets around the tube are booby-trapped with touristy eateries, so for more sensory stimulation, aim for the recently named Brompton Road Design District with destination shops like Skandium, Squint, Mint and B&B Italia, before ducking into Daphne's on Draycott Avenue for Sardini Grigliati and a glass of prosecco.
