In 1733 William Morland bought Court Lodge and it has been occupied by the Morland family ever since. It is believed that the house was built in 1630 and that there has been a Manor house on this site going back to the time of the Domesday Book and Lamberhurst golf club lies to the front of the estate grounds. The Nursery - so named because it was home to the family children and their nannies - occupies the front part of the upper floor with stupendous views over the Knot Garden - a maze-like hedge garden - and the golf course beyond. The surrounding grounds are approximately six acres in area, including a rose garden that was once a tennis court, a walled garden that once provided much of the food for the household, and many other lovely areas and walks. Hidden away is an atmospheric sunken garden that it is believed was a Fernery, originally designed by the famous Victorian garden designer, James Pulham in the 1860s. You are free to wander through the gardens and even help with the garden restoration work if you wish! The fantastic central location means you can visit many more historic houses, gardens and villages in the area too and Royal Tunbridge Wells is a short drive away
